Picking up the Pieces
"Just through here."
He quickly shuffled over to me and picked me up. “We have to get you inside.” He said. He climbed up the small set stairs and opened the grand door. He held me tighter as he walked inside. A nurse quickly walked up to him. “Hello Sir, what is your dilemma?” she said. I looked up at Frank, who was distressed.
He couldn’t speak. “Sir, is your wife experiencing pain?” she said, trying to comfort him. Frank seemed shocked when the nurse said this and replied quickly, “She’s not my wife, she’s my maid.” He said, correcting her. Frank soon became flustered and sweaty. The nurse kept her cool and spoke again, “Ok sir, we should her into a room and hooked up right away. What’s her condition?” She said, calmly. “S-She’s lost a lot of blood.”
He looked down on me and shed a single tear that landed on my nose. “She’s dizzy.” He said. “Ok Sir, right this way.” She lead him through a long hall and to a door at the end of the hallway. “Just through here.” she said. The last memory I had was of Frank, laying me down on the hospital bed.
