Picking up the Pieces

"Sadie, I'm don't know what to say, I'm just so sorry about everything. You were innocent and sweet and I-I took that away from you. It's all my fault. I took some from you I can never give back." Frank said. He turned off of Holly Dr and onto Baseline Road. "Frank, it's okay." "No, it's not Sadie." He turned left and started driving faster. "Frank, why are you driving so fast?" I asked him. "Because you're loopy, Sadie." He held up one of his hands. "Frank, I'm not loopy." I told him. "Oh yeah, then how many fingers am I holding up?" he asked. He was clearly holding up 4 of his tattoed fingers. "Four." I said. "Sadie, I'm holding up one.We have to get you to the hospital right now. That's why I'm driving so fast." He turned right and received a few honks and swears in the process. He rolled down the window to scream, "Oh, Fuck off!" He turned onto Crawford Blvd. and zoomed straight for about 350 feet. "Ok, we're almost there." he said. The car came to a stop when he parked in front of "ST. JOHN'S HOSPITAL". He ran out of the car and rushed to my side. He opened the door and offered his hand. "Frank, it's okay. I can walk." He stepped back carefully and watched me. I gripped the door handle and slowly pulled myself up out of the seat. I stood up completely with confidence and spoke to Frank. "See." I said to him, proving him wrong. I was feeling pretty good about myself and decided to attempt to take a step. Bad idea. I went crashing down to the concrete sidewalk and Frank screamed out,"Sadie!"
