I'll Go Down with My Friends
Chapter 8
*Jaimie's POV*
Christmas break started a couple days ago and I'd say it's going pretty good. Staying home and watching Netflix, not leaving bed, and unlimited computer time. I even got a heating blanket so now when I sleep I feel like a god. I've also been ignoring the little homework I have, and neglecting Christmas shopping cause honestly, I don't really have anyone to shop for. I have no siblings, the guys are my only friends but I don't know if its too soon to by them presents cause I've only known them for a few months, and my parents are usually either fighting or at work. But during Christmas time they get along enough so I don't have a completely terrible holiday.
Well, I guess I should go buy some presents anyway. Maybe I'll get the guys food or something, they all like food right? I start getting dressed and look at the cuts high up on my thigh. I remember back when I was bullied, not that I'm not every once in a while now, but when it was really bad. It started in seventh grade when I said I liked a band everyone was calling 'emo', and had taken a liking to darker clothes. I know, that doesn't seem like something to get bullied for, but it didn't really start until someone started rumors about me. Rumors that I cut, or I was anorexic-which I was.
I shake my head and pull some skinny jeans on. I grab my money and head out. I have my license but I don't drive a lot, cause I don't really have places to drive to except school, but I usually ride with Gerard, Frank, Mikey, and Ray.
I think about what everyone might want while driving to the store. I end up buying a pair of skeleton gloves for Frank, since he talked about them a few times, a pack of like ten guitar picks for Ray, some art stuff for Gee, and a unicorn poster for Mikey. I laugh when I imagine Mikey's face when he sees I got him a poster of a unicorn. I run back to my car since its almost dark, and the last place you wanna be is outside at night in New Jersey. I get home and wrap everything in a few layers of wrapping paper to mess with them since I'm that immature, and get back to my show, relieved that I finally have one less thing to so this week.
I turn on some music, but not very loud. Just loud enough that I wouldn't be able to hear someone talking unless they were right next to me. I 'dance' around my room, which is more like flopping and head banging until my dad comes in and tells me to turn it down. I sigh and turn towards my window, jumping when I see someone standing outside of it. I walk closer and see Frank, grinning and laughing to himself. I check outside my room to make sure my parents aren't right outside my door or something before letting him in. I open the window and he climbs in, probably freezing.
"How long have you been out there?" I ask quickly closing the window.
"Um, since Self Esteem by the Offspring," I replies taking off his coat and throwing it carelessly onto the floor.
"Oh," I say quietly, blushing since that was when I started 'dancing'.
"Hey, what's this?" He says grabbing his present off my bed.
"Hey, give me that!" I say reaching for it.
"But it has my name on it," Frank grins while holding it away from me.
"But you can't have it yet!"
He fake pouts and hands it back to me, making me laugh a little.
"You're such a baby, Frank," I joke, taking it from him and putting it up, followed by the other presents.
He makes a fake angry face that quickly fades into excitement.
"So what'd you get me?"
"Something," I answer, sitting on a chair.
"And what something did you get me?" He asks sitting on my lap like little kids sit on Santa.
"Oof, it's a surprise, Frankie," I say to him as if I'm talking to a child.
"Fine," he pouts getting off of me and falling face first onto my bed on purpose. I climb onto his back before he gets up an whisper, "it's almost Christmas!" It's then that I realize, this is my first Christmas with friends since sixth grade.
"You're right, and I still didn't buy you a present," he teases.
I gasp and climb off him, standing up and crossing my arms. "Guess who doesn't get his present then," I try to keep a straight face but fail miserably.
"Hmm, Gerard?" He guesses.
"Nope, Gerard gets your present along with his," I say sitting back in the chair and turning my attention to the TV in my room.
"No fair," he says sitting up.
"You don't look very Christmasy," he points out.
"Yeah I don't like Christamsy stuff, especially Christmas music," I answer, searching for stuff to watch.
"I like Christmas, but at the same time it kinda sucks, like the theme and everything," I laugh a little cause I know what he means and I agree.
"Yeah," I chuckle.
"Oh hey did you hear there's a new kid at school?" He says breaking the little silence there was.
"No, I didn't,"
"Well yeah, I think his name is Bob but I'm not sure about his last name."
"Oh cool, I wonder what he's like," I say, not finding anything good to watch.
"He'll be starting after Christmas, so I hear," Frank says, followed by an awkward silence.
I don't say anything until I notice he's texting somebody.
"Who are you texting?" I ask getting his attention.
"Jack," he says shrugging but not looking up.
"Jack Barakat?" I ask, since I only know one Jack from school.
"Mhm," he nods.
"Oh cool, well bye," I say standing up and start to leave my room.
"Bye," he says not looking up. "Wait-" he says looking up at me standing next to my door.
"Sorry," he says laughing slightly.
I giggle a little and stand there awkwardly like I always do.
"Um well, I guess I should go now," he says shuffling towards the window.
"Bye," I say waving awkwardly. God I'm so awkward.
