I'm really not okay.
Chapter 2- The magnificent Gerard fucking Way
I approach my form room. I check my phone to check the time and, oh great, it is 8:52. It somehow took me 37 minutes to walk here. What the fuck? Mr. Bines is going to be pissed. This day just keeps getting better. I sigh as I open the door and walk into the classroom. “Sorry that I’m late, sir,” I mutter as I make my way to my seat.
“I’ll talk to you after the bell goes, Mr. Iero. For now take a seat and help Izzy with the morning task.” I nod and turn to Izzy.
“Hey, Frankenstein!” she chuckles. I offer a small smile back and she instantly frowns. Shit, she knows that something is up. How does she always know? “Do you forget that we’ve been best friends for 10 years? I know when you are pretending, Frank!” okay, that is weird… Did Izzy just read my mind!? “Frank, c’mon, tell me what’s up. We have like 6 minutes until the bell goes. Shoot,” she looks expectantly at me. What do I tell her? Should I just be honest and tell her that my hip is burning from where I didn’t wash all of the soap out of my cuts properly and that the guy I love hates every atom of my being and every second of my existence.
“I had an annoying morning, is all. First there was no hot water then my mum’s car broke down and I had to walk to school. I’m just annoyed that now I’m in trouble for it, yunno?” yep, I decided to lie. Even to my best friend I just lie and lie some more. Lying is just natural instinct to me; I’m so pathetic.
“Well, Franks. I’m calling bullshit on that one! Tell me the truth right fucking now!” Izzy glares at me. Shit, she is angry. Izzy is literally NEVER angry and now that she is, it scares me. I physically shudder and cower away from her. “Frank,” she questions, her voice oozing confusion, and then she realizes what is going on. “Oh, Frankie,” she grabs me into a hug. “I would never hurt you, don’t be scared of me, ever! I am just so worried, Franks. You always just lie to me these days and I just don’t know how to look after you. How can I fix you when you are always pretending to be okay? Admit it, Frankenstein; you aren’t okay, are you?”
I pull away from her and look her in the eye. “Izzle-Pop, I’m glad that you care so much. But you really need to listen to me, because I’m telling you the truth, I mean this, I’m okay!” I grab her face and kiss her forehead to try and reassure and comfort her. I pull away, look deep into her crystal-blue eyes – well eye, one is covered by her golden fringe – and take a hold of her hands. “Trust me,” I whisper to her.
“Okay, Frank. I guess that I do trust you. But know that I will always worry and care. I love you, Frankie,”
“I love you too, Izzy,” we hug and then the bell rings. Izzy pulls away, kisses my forehead, picks up her Slipknot bag, grabs the paper with the morning task - which we forgot to complete - and hands it into Mr. Bines.
“I’ll wait outside, Franks. We have math together first,” Izzy says before leaving the classroom. Oh joy, now is time to go and explain myself to my judgmental douche-bag form tutor.
“Frank Iero!” Mr. Bines beckons.
“Yes, sir,” I murmur as I approach his desk.
“I don’t truly care why you were late but it is the tenth late since term started three weeks ago. That is ten out fifteen mornings that you have been late,” Mr. Bines begins to explain. “Now, I should be issuing detentions for your tardiness,” he continues, oh great he's going to make me do him a favour. For fucks sake, things can’t just be simple, can they? “But if you mentor a student of mine who is struggling with their maths then I will overlook all of your lates for the whole term,” he explains. Wow, that sounds like a fucking great deal! “Deal?” he cocks his eyebrow, judging my expression to anticipate my response.
“Fuck yeah!” I blurt.
“Language, Mr. Iero!” he disciplines. “But we have a deal. I have already spoken to Ms. Finch and she says that, as you’re only doing revision in your maths, that you can tutor him during your maths lessons, as the two of you have maths at the same time,” he tells me. Guess I’m out of Ms. Finch’s lessons for the rest of the year, swee - she is a total bitch!
“Okay, sir. So I am tutoring... Starting this lesson?” I check, hoping that he’ll say yes.
“Yes, you can use my office. He’ll be in there waiting for you,” he smiles at me. “Go on and make him smart!” he jokes.
“Cool. Thanks, sir!” I beam at him as I grab my bag and skip out of the classroom. “Hey, Iz, I’m not in maths anymore, I tutor someone instead. Sorry,” I explain as I meet Izzy who was patiently waiting.
“Are you shitting me? This sucks, now I have to sit next to that bitch Ella! Urgh, I hate you sometimes, Frankie!” she sulks.
“Love you too, Izzy!” I joke with her. She smiles and kisses my cheek. God is that girl sweet. She is such a great friend and pretty much a sister to me, even though we may look like a couple… But that’s gross… She has boobs! Ew!
“I love you really, Frank. Have fun enriching someone’s mind!” she jokes as she makes her way to class.
I walk into Mr. Bine’s office with a soft smile set across my face. This is going to kick the shit out of maths. Haa, I’m so glad that I’m smart. I open the door to the office to see someone already sat in the seat with their back to the door and a head full of cherry red hair. “Hey, I’m Frank Iero, you can call me Frankie or whatever, I don’t care. I’m going to be your tutor!” I beam as I make my way to the spare seat next to the boy with the bright hair, either he is new or he has changed his hair because this school isn’t that big and I would have noticed it. I hear a chuckle as I set my bag on the floor.
“Heya, Fairy Frankie,” he purrs. Oh fuck no. I look up and my eyes meet his gorgeous hazel pools. Fuck me. This can’t be happening. Anyone but him, please! But of course, just to fit my shitty life, I will be having three hour long one-on-one tutoring sessions a week with him, my gorgeous tormenter.
