Remedy For The Routine
Chapter4
A shrill alarm cut through into Gerard’s dream pulling him to consciousness in an instant. That alarm meant that the stronghold was under attack and from the looks of the hallway after Gerard had exited his room the attack was serious. Quickly Gerard pushed through onslaughts of citizens to get to the armory. With his assault rifle finally in hand he checked a computer terminal to see if the was a security breach. Everything was in the clear until Gerard went to walk away from the terminal. Suddenly there was a breach in the government building. “Bert!” There was no way of knowing where the breach was until he got to the building to check yet another terminal. His legs had never moved so fast! The ground whizzed past under him and soon he was at the other terminal in the government building. “Please not the lab. Please be nowhere near the… damn it!”
The building felt like it was a terrible Halloween maze and made Gerard feel like he was never going to make it to the lab. The halls seemed to stretch on forever and get ten times longer with each stride. Finally Gerard had made it to the lab and began slowly creeping inside with his gun and trigger finger at the ready. “Can’t shoot Bert, don’t shoot Bert, fuck.” Low to the ground he headed to the first island to hide behind it before moving further into the room. Just before he moved further there was a sound of breaking beakers and metal instruments hitting the floor. Gerard readied himself and stood up ready to fire if he didn’t see Bert.
What he saw before him flooded him with a million memories and emotions. “Hello.” Gerard just stood there staring like a deer in headlights, which was fitting seeing as he felt like he’d been hit by an emotional truck. “Long time no see baby.” Slowly Gerard moved his gun down just slightly. “We were just talking about you,” Frank said grinning from ear to ear. Frank had Bert held from the back of the neck. Bert’s eyes were filled with terror as he winced sporadically when Frank would tighten his grip.
“Let him go. We can all walk away from this. Please Frank,” Gerard pled as he slowly started to make his way around the island toward Frank and Bert.
“Sure thing baby,” Frank sang as he bounced Bert’s face off a counter, sending him straight to the floor in a crumpled heap. “I’ve missed you, ever since they took you from me to use you as their guinea pig.” Seemingly before Gerard could blink Frank was standing in front of him brushing hair behind his ear. “No one else is here. We can get out. The cure will wear off and we can be together again.” Gerard looked over Frank’s shoulder at his unconscious lover. Confusion flew across Franks face until he followed Gerard’s gaze. “Do you care more about him now?”
“Not more. You just weren’t here Frankie.”
“No,” Frank roared as he shoved Gerard back into the island. “Don’t you dare call me that. Not if you’re going to act like this. What happened to forever?”
“Frank, please, I still love you. I promise. You just took me by surprise.”
“Wrong. I’ve been watching you,” Frank hissed as he grabbed Gerard lightly be the throat turning his head to the side to whisper in his ear. “You two are dating. It might be on the down low, but I know sweetie. Though, I wonder if you’re actually satisfied with him.”
“What?”
“Judging by last night I would say you miss me more than you know.” Frank licked swiftly along Gerard’s jaw line and back to his ear. “We both know you miss it. You don’t do sweet and innocent very well.” Gerard bit his lip slightly as Frank released his throat and pushed him backward on top of the island. Breathe caught in Gerard’s throat as Frank climbed on top of him. “Come back with me. Let the cure wear off my love.” From Gerard’s collar bone all the way up to his lips Frank gently placed kisses. He had slowly pulled away from each one while glancing up to Gerard’s face to see his expression. “Please baby. Come home?”
“Freeze fucker!” Both the men froze and Frank slowly raised his head to look at the interruption. It was Gerard’s second in command with three other men. “Slowly get off Mr. Way and lay on the floor.”
“You expect me,” Frank looked from the man to himself and then the floor. “Honey, I don’t play that game.” Fangs bared Frank started to walk toward the men, who cocked their guns in response.
“Frank! Please don’t.” Gerard was standing on the opposite side of the island, his eyes pleading with Frank. “Don’t do this. Please.” Frank began to melt, that was until there was a sound from behind Gerard. Everyone had forgotten about Bert. Before anyone could move a muscle Frank jumped onto the island and over to Bert. Hurriedly he dragged him off the floor and threw him over his shoulders.
“You don’t mind if I take some collateral? Do you Gerard?” Frank was grinning from ear to ear again taking great care to show everyone in the room his fangs and therefore who was in charge, “I’ll see you soon my love.” They were gone.
