To This Day I Regret It
I went up into the room with the other guy, when I got there Kobra and Ghoul were in there own conversation about.... well whatever guys talk about. Jet was in the Kitchen making something so I thought I would join him and help out.
"Hey." He greeted as I walked in.
"Hey, need any help?" I questioned.
"I just finished opening some pub and putting it in bowls, nothing special. You can clean up if you want." He suggested.
The place was fility, there was dried brown stuff all over the counter, dirty dishes were piled in the sink. The floor was covered in dust and other chunks of random substance. When Jet saw me take in the flit, he just laughed.
"Yeah.... Were kinda lacking in a woman's touch." He said running his hand through his very puffy fro.
"No shit." I said as I grabbed the sponge and started at the dishes in the sink.
"So, I dont really know much about you, wanna share?" He asked as he suggested as he grabbed another sponge and helped out.
"There nothing really to share, I'm a teenage girl who grew up in Safe Haven, before Dr.D came to get me, I never stepped a foot outside of that place. I taught myself how to shoot and tried my best to get myself physically and mentally prepared for life as a killjoy." I honestly answered.
"Wow, whats your motive?"
"My what?"
"You said youve been preparing yourself? Why? What drove you everyday to try and do your best, what drove you to be try and be a great killjoy?" He asked calmly as he continued the dishes. Damn that guy is intense.
"That's kinda personal."
"Okay, I wont press. But just so you know, you might wanna start trusting us, were gonna be stuck together until your mentoring is over."
"Yeah, I really don't trust many people... And it's gonna take some time for me to trust you guys, no offense."
"None taken, after the, uh, incident last night I'm surprised your even talking to any of us."
"Well Kobra seemed honest about his apology and Party kinda told me what a good guy he is, so it helped."
"Yeah, Party is good at that especially since their brothers."
"There brothers? Like blood brothers?"
"Yeah, and they've stuck together since Korse took over. It's really cool, my sister and I were separated, she's still in Battery City, and my brother is in Safe Haven."
"What about Ghoul?"
"He's an only child, but everyone has there own story here. Short or long there still our past."
"Can I hear yours? Or is that to much to ask?"
"Haha it's fine, my story is this; before Korse took over 20 years ago, I lived with my twin sister, mom and dad, I was 4"
"I thought you had a brother?"
"I do, my mom was pregnant with him. When my mom was in labor, was the day the Drac's came. She was to far along in labor to move or be taken anywhere, so my dad put my sister and I in the closet under the stairs and my mom was upstairs, my dad told us no matter what to be quite. We were in there for a few hours or so when I heard my mother cry out in pain, back then I didn't know it was labor pain and neither did Hanna, we thought she was in pain. I can still remember Hanna's scared face. Imagine a 4 year old girl having to hear her mother be in such pain, we thought it was due to another person. She wanted to go make sure mom was okay but I told her no, that dad said we had to stay in the closet and be quite, she tried to get away but I held on to her. Then we heard a small crying, like a little person, yeah we were young but we knew we were gonna get a little brother, so we both smiled and I released her. That was the worst mistake I have ever made, and to this day I regret it," I swear i saw a tear stream down Jet's face. "Then maybe a few seconds later, we heard a crash coming from the front door and people came in, Hanna ran out and upstairs screaming 'Mommy!' she led them to her. I stayed where I was because I knew my dad would be mad. I heard a grunt and things crash from upstairs so I silently came out and went to the door, I was met by my father holding a little bundle, he was bloody and bruised. He handed me the little bundle and told me to run out of the house and keep going, I was scared so I took the baby but before my dad could go upstairs I asked 'Where's Hanna?', he looked at me with a horrified expression and responded 'She isn't with you?' I was scared he was gonna do something bad, 'No, she ran upstairs when the bad people came in.' With that he ran back upstairs but yelled out 'Run!' and so I did, but I was careful because of the little bundle in my arms, and I was crying. I was a few houses down when Hanna called out to me from behind telling me to slow down. She was running as fast as her little legs would take her, and at that second, two vans came rushing down from opposite sides of the street, one a killjoy van and the other a BL/ind van. The BL/ind got to Hanna and pulled her in, she was screaming bloody murder, the killjoy van got to me, I was screaming her name, but the people were nice and gently took me in the van and took off in opposite direction of Hanna, I never saw her again."
I didn't know what to say, a four year old having to go through all of that, he lost almost his entire family.
"I'm sorry." I whispered.
"It's fine, I've had 20 years to get over it." He said with a smile.
"If you don't mind me asking, what happened to your brother?"
"I made him stay in Safe Haven, I didn't wanna risk anything. You said you've lived there all of your life, you might have met him, his name is Reggie, I picked it out for him," He said with a smile, "I also was like 4. Did you know him?"
"Reggie, hell yeah I did." His eye's lit up
"Really? How is he? What's he up to? Does he like it there? Did he mention me?"
"Haha, when's the last time you saw him?"
"About a year ago." He answered in a sad voice.
"Then it looks like we have a lot to talk about."
We totaly forgot about cleaning and spent the next few hours talking about Reggie, I told him every detail I could about him.
