Zero Percent
Once Every Blue Moon
"Will you get your lazy ass out of bed!" A voice yelled through the other side of my door and i could tell it was Bree, "This may be your last day here but that doesn't mean you cant slack off!" Then I heard Bree walk off.
"Bitch." I muttered to myself as I looked at my clock and saw it was only 6 in the morning.
Bree was like my older sister here, she is 27 and has been here since she was 12, they offered her the choice of being mentored and becoming a Killjoy but she turned it down and practically raised me.
Today was the day. Dr.D was coming for me and I will start my mentioning, that's all I know. I don't know who or how many people will teach me, I don't know where they are, I don't know where I'm going, I don't know shit. But I couldnt be more happy, I love this place and all of the people, but I couldn't wait to get the hell out of here and taste some fresh air.
That's another thing, I've also never been outside.
I got out of bed and walked to my door and started at my small room and took a deep breath, this would be my last night here, I've spend 9 years in this room, (I'm 14 but I stayed in a nursery until I was 5), I sighed as I grabbed a small bag and wandered to my closet to grab my clothes. All I had was 2 pairs of short, 2 tang tops, 1 pair of socks, and 1 pair of shoe's, I dressed in my tang top and shorts, and put my socks and shoe's on, and brushed my hair. Once I was satisfied I threw my remaining clothes and brush into my bag and left for the medical center to fill the rest of my bag.
When I got into the waiting room I stopped by the front desk to tell them I was gonna go get some supplies but to my surprise, Reggie, the guy that dealt with minor injuries, handed me a bag full of bandages, painkillers, cold medicine, wraps, and napkins. I took the bag with a confused look on my face and put in my small bag (which almost filled it).
"Its mandatory that we give that to the newbies." Reggie explained.
"Okay, thanks, for the bag and well, everytime I cut myself." I smiled at him.
"Anytime kid." He returned my smile then looked at the clock, "Its 7, you better get some food in you and that bag, Dr.D will show up whenever he feels like it, one time showed up at 5 in the morning for one dude."
"Got it," I said running out, "And thanks again."
I ran straight into the kitchen and put 2 water bottles into my bag and about 5 bars, I was just closing up my bag when Bree scared the living shit out of me.
"Your barley packing!" She yelled.
"Shit Bree!" I said clutching my heart. "What the fuck?!"
"Sorry," She said staring down at the floor, "He's here." She whispered.
"Already?" I was excited to go but, my heart felt heavy, I looked up to Bree to see tears streaming down her cheek. "Aw honey," I said crossing the room to her, "Don't cry. We'll see each other again." I said then I hugged her very tightly while some of my own tears streamed down my face. We stayed like that for a moment until I pulled away, "I have to go."
"Okay, he's by the main gates waiting for you, I would walk you there but..." She trailed off, she had never been good at saying goodbyes, and well, neither was I.
"Goodbye." I said.
"Goodbye." She said then she turned her back to me and walked over to the cabnits and started to make food.
I walk out and wiped away my tears before I met Dr.D, D had visited me a lot while I was here, he was like my dad that saw every few months. Once he saw me he pulled me into a hug for a split second then pulled away before I could hug him back.
"Ready?" He asked.
"Hell yeah."
"Good, here is your ray gun and a cell phone," He said as I took those items. "My number is in there, as well as your mentors."
"Mentors? As in more than one?"
"Yup you got 4 of them motor baby."
"Holy shit, who are they?"
"You know them as the Fabulous Killjoy's." He said with a smile, as my jaw dropped. Sure I've never left this place but that doesn't mean that I haven't heard about them.
"So... Where are they? Do they know there gonna mentor me?"
"They are at there base in zone 6, and yes, but all they know is there gonna mentor a girl, nothing else about you. So there is a safe word you will use so they know it's you. Its-" He leaned in so his mouth was by my ear, "Peanut Butter."
"Wow..."
"Yup, I chose it myself." He smilied, then pulled out a map of the zones and handed it to me, "Where in zone 48, and I'm going to drop you off in zone 8," He pointed to each spot, "This is there base," he pointed to a dot in zone 6, "Your first mission is to get there."
"By myself?"
"Yup." He said folding up the map and put it in my bag and i put the phone in my pocket and gun in my holster. He put his hand on my back and led me outside to his car.
The first thing I noticed, was how fucking bright it was out side, I wish I had a hat or a pair of sunglasses or something. But I didn't so I used my hands, Dr.D noticed my discomfort and once we were in the car he handed me a pair of sunglasses.
"Thanks." I said as I put them on.
"Anytime motor baby. The drive is about 10 hours so I suggest you get some shut eye. The boy's can be pretty unpredictable."
"Okay," I leaned my chair back and was about to close my eyes when Dr.D asked a question.
"One more thing, your name shall no longer be used, tell no one unless you trust them, so whats yours?"
"I...uh..." I shuddered, I had never given any thought to a name.
Dr.D just laughed and patted my leg, "It's okay, but have one before you meet the boys, oh and my name is Robert by the way."
"Thanks for trusting me, and well everything."
"Anything for you motor baby."
"Robert?"
"Hmm?" He asked keeping his eyes on the road
"How often do you tell killjoy's your name?" I asked curling myself into a ball.
"Once every blue moon."
"I think I found my name." I said closing my eyes.
"And what would it be?"
"Blue moon." Then I fell into a world of great sleep.
