Our principle Mrs. Kwan’s voice carried around the cafeteria “Attention all Belleville High students, today’s announcements are as follows; there will be a school dance in one week and a half it will be held on the 10th of October! If you have misplaced a pink iPhone please come to the front office! Thank you!”
“Oh great a school dance” Scoffed Mikey as he picked away at his bland tasteless cafeteria corn. “Yep, the shittiest place ever organizes a dance.” Frank frowned. Ray sighed as he ate away at his nasty looking cafeteria burrito. “Dude, that’s gunna give you the shits if you eat it.” I winced. “Naw, it’ll be fine.” He replied.
The conversation picked up some more, we basically talked about music. We were in the middle of discussing who the better Def Leppard singer was Gerard changed the subject. “I think we should go.” He smiled like he had a brilliant idea. “Go where?” Mikey asked. “You know.” smirked Gerard “The dance.” “What?” Frank and Ray blurted out at the same time. Frank almost fell out of his seat.
“What do you think Lucy?” Gerard asked pointing to me. “Uh, I don’t really know… I haven’t really been to one before.” I said looking down at my lunch. “We should go so Lucy can have her first ‘High School Dance Experience.’” Mikey smiled. “Yeah! I agree with Mikey!” Ray smiled evilly at me. Frank didn’t say anything he just continued eating. “We should even get Lucy a date.” Ray continued. “No fucking way.” I frowned “I’ll go to the dance but not with anyone I don’t know.” “So one of us then?” Mikey giggled. I just jokingly rolled my eyes at him and laughed.
But the lunch bell rang, I had drama next so Mikey and I walked to class together. “What about him?” He said pointing to some random blond boy who liked like he was a year younger than me, maybe in the tenth grade. “No. I don’t even know him.” I frowned “How about him?” He laughed. “Mikey!” I playfully smacked him with my binder “Stop.” “Ouch.” He pouted smacking me with his bag in return “Bad Lucy!”
We giggled and goofed off during drama class “What about that guy in the blue sweater over there.” He grinned at me and I elbowed him in the side. “Michael, Lucy? Do you have something you want to say to the class?” Our drama teacher Mrs. Armstrong demanded. What a corny thing to say? Don’t they always say that in movies? I wondered. “Sorry mam.” I answered my cheeks growing hot. I don’t like to be in trouble.
After drama class ended Mikey and I burst out laughing when we left the room. “Oh my god Lucy you sounded so official.” He smirked at me. “I know, I’m sorry, I had to say something you looked scared shitless.” I said staring at the ground. “Well, I got to get to gym class, and you have to go to science or whatever.” He smiled giving me a hug. “Bye.” I blushed turning around. Then it all sunk in.
Okay, Mikey hugged me, and I BLUSHED. Blushing is something I don’t often do. Do I like him? I thought to myself. Oh perfect, I like Mikey, one of my only friends. And did I also mention that if he doesn’t like me that would be so awkward for me and Ray. What would Ray say to that? I worried Lucy Toro; you cannot like this boy, every time you fall for someone it all goes terribly wrong. This cannot be happening.
I turned and strolled awkwardly away, I saw a couple of glances here and there from other students, some were familiar, others not. Maybe they saw me and Mikey hug. Uh oh. During the rest of the day I tried to push my feeling towards Mikey away, but they didn't go away. Why does this always happen.
