A New Start
I met a girl at 17
The next day, everyone went along with the plan. I didn’t have a problem with it, especially since Frank was basically leading me to each class. I felt safe around him. Why do I keep thinking about him? The same exact thing happened when I was with Jack. Katy, get your head straight! Who says the same won’t happen with Frank? Who says he’d even date you! No one could love me, Jack made that pretty clear. The fact that love doesn’t exist anyways doesn’t help the fact, Jack also made that clear.
Now I’m walking behind Frank towards art. I sat at the back of the room next to him, as usual. The teacher went on about some stupid project that we’re suppose to do. I stopped paying attention until she said she was picking partners.
“Frank and Bert, Katy and Lexi..” The teacher said. I sighed. She told us to find our partners. I sat still until Frank was taken away by a man with long hair. He was smirking when he made his way over here. He gives me the creeps. A quiet girl with curly dark brown hair, the bottom half dyed red, walked over to me and sat down. She was wearing a Fall Out Boy T-shirt and blue skinny jeans. Her dark brown eyes stared at her lap. She had big lips and a button nose with a blue ring in it.
“Hi.” I said quietly. I could tell she was quiet and this was just going to be awkward.
“Hi, I’m Lexi.” She said after a few seconds hesitation.
“Katy.” I replied. “I wasn’t really paying attention, what were we suppose to be doing?” I asked only half joking. I have a problem with paying attention to boring things. She giggled. After explaining what the assignment was we decided to blow it off and talk about music since it was due next week anyways. Even though it was Thursday today. She seems like a pretty cool girl. I finally asked her if she wanted to come to my house.
“Umm...” She typed something on her phone. “Probably not but do you think you could come with me? I’m suppose to go to my boyfriend’s house. He’d mostly talking to his friends whenever I come anyways.” I bit my lower lip.
“Uh. I don’t know. I don’t want to be a burden if you guys wanted to do something.” I said looking down. The bell rang at the same time her phone did.
“Right because we were planning to screw tonight.” She rolled her eyes sarcastically. “I just texted him, he said it’s fine. So your coming.” She declared. I sighed. then nodded. She beamed at me and walked out of the room, handing me her number on her way out. I stood and walked to the door where Frank was patiently waiting for me. We walked silently down the hall. When we neared the classroom I slowed my walking pace until I completely stopped. Frank looked back at me but I kept staring at the door. He hesitantly grabbed my hand and gently tugged. I looked at him then followed him into the classroom. Unfortunately, we now had assigned seats where we sat the first few weeks. So now I was stuck sitting next to Alex. Frank let my hand drop and walked to his seat. I slowly made my way to mine. I lie my head on my desk and sat like that for a while. When I heard the teacher start speaking I pulled my head up and stared off into space while the hour long lecture began. When the bell rang again I sat still. I gnawed on the inside of my cheek (a nervous tick I can’t stop doing.) I turned my head to see frank gathering his books quickly. I also noticed Alex was still sat next to me staring at me. I stood and began walking towards Frank but something caught my wrist. I looked back at Alex to see the smirk grow on his face. Clearly he can sense my fear. I yanked my wrist free and walked faster to Frank. I stood awkwardly next to him while he gathered his things. I turned back around, surprised to see an empty classroom.
Frank walked with me to my locker where we met a relieved looking Pete and Mikey. I pulled my things out of my locker and shoved them into my bag. I closed my locker and turned. From down the hall, I saw Alex and Jack leaning against a set of lockers. I couldn’t look away. I was still too afraid of him. So I grabbed Pete’s Jacket sleeve and tugged until he looked. He pulled me out of the school kissing Mikey goodbye before joining me in the car and pulling away. I was still in shock, I couldn’t talk or breath.
“Are you Okay?” Pete asked carefully. I drew in a deep breath I’ve needed. My breathing was fast and my chest was tight, making breathing even harder. A pain grew in my chest and got worse with each choked breath. I desperately clutched at the clothing covering the aching area. Pete pulled into the drive way and ran to my door, almost literally dragging me into the house. He gave me my anxiety pills and they helped me calm down. I sat on the couch for a while. I was now breathing properly and thinking properly. I remembered Lexi. I jumped up and startled a concerned looking Pete. I pulled out my phone and started texting her.
To:Lexi
Hey, I don’t know your boyfriends’ address.
I sent the message and sat back down on the couch next to Pete.
“I’m going to a friends’ house and I’m fine so don’t worry about me Pete.” I said quietly. Shock, and anger crossed his features before he calmed down and just looked worried again. “Please. We’re doing a project for art.” He rolled his eyes.
“So you don’t even want to talk about what just happened?” He asked.
“I don’t wanna think about it too much right now, Pete. I don’t wanna have another anxiety attack. I wanna get my mind off him.” I said quietly. He nodded but didn’t look any less worried. My phone buzzed.
From: Lexi
Just tell me where you live and I’ll pick you up.
I typed in my address and got a reply almost instantly.
From:Lexi
Thanks. Be there in maybe 10 minutes.
I looked back up at Pete and he just nodded. I smiled and hugged him. 10 minutes later, Lexi knocked on the door. I slipped on shoes and grabbed my bag, yelling bye to Pete. I opened the door for her.
“ready?” She asked happily. I nodded and followed her to her car. It didn’t take long until we arrived at a small yellow house. A black car in the driveway. We climbed out and walked to the door. Lexi knocked before Mikey opened the door. I stood there dumbfounded for a while. Mikey looked the same. Wondering why I was here while I was doing the same.
“Gee, your girlfriends’ here! And she brought Frankie a friend.” He said slipping his shoes on. We walked in. I turned to Mikey.
“Pete’s home alone right now. I think he’s pretty lonely.” I whispered. He bit his lower lip.
“I’m going out!” He yelled before walking out the door. I smiled and followed Lexi to Gerard’s room.
“So I take it you know my boyfriend... and his friend and his little brother.” She said smiling as we made our way down to the basement.
“Yea. You can say that.” I said. We walked into a room with all black walls littered with posters for Anthrax, Misfits, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, and drawings and paintings that looked great. A navy blue carpet. A small T.V. on a stand across the room, playing video games. The center of the room sat a big bed with a black blanket and pillows. On the floor at the end of the bed, sat two boys, one smaller than the other. We stood in the doorway for a while. They never noticed us so Lexi walked in front of the TV screen. The boys groaned and paused the game. Gerard stood up and kissed Lexi. Frank groaned, and Gerard slapped his arm lightly. I giggled at Frank’s reaction.
“Where’d my brother go?” Gerard asked looking directly at me. Lexi walked over to the bed and started singing “Their up all night to get lucky.” I rolled my eyes.
