Band Geeks and Art Freaks

Shiny

Frank POV:
~in le band class~

As we finished playing the F-major scale, my eyes did a quick scan of the room. As I scanned the sections, very little was noticeable. Brendon was the only brass player listening intently to the director while Ray snoozed on his amp speaker, not having the music for this song.
My eyes hovered a second over the boy who I had never met. The only boy in the room who did not play an instrument, as well as being the only boy who the teacher had never mentioned or introduced, although she would frequently talk to him and send him on errands. He was bent over a sketch pad, his ebony hair not quite long enough to touch the pad, but long enough to block his face. Yet you could sense the concentration from him. The way his body was tensed up as if he was trying to disarm a bomb.
I sighed and looked down at my unimpressive instrument (AN: A saxophone you pervs xD), wishing it was the guitar that my fingers had been itching for this whole time. Instead, I was met with the glossy keys of a saxophone, reflecting off the light from the fluorescent bulbs above. Mesmerized, I stared at the instrument, lost in its shine, thinking back to the disappointment I felt when the teacher told me that there could only be one guitarist in the band. Instead of hanging my head and walking out, I chose the shiny instrument that was behind her as she broke the news to me.
I snapped my head back to the conductor as she hit her baton on top of one of the flute players stands, tutting disapprovingly.
"Gerard" she called.
The boy's head slowly rose up, revealing the deep hazel eyes that stood out behind the curtain of dark bangs. The contrast along with his pointy facial features was not intimidating as it should be. They were softened, yet not quite delacite.
"Yes?" his voice rang out in what was close to a clear soprano.
"Would you be a doll, and go into the storage room and get extra copies for the flutes of this book?" she smiled sweetly. Mrs. Dorr was a nice elderly woman, with a genuine smile unlike any other teacher…and frankly, probably the only teacher with a genuine smile.
Gerard nodded and set the pad down. He collected the keys from her and turned towards the exit in my direction.
I quickly tried to avert my eyes as he walked closer, but I knew it was too late as I made eye contact for a split second.
Oh fuck. I thought, He must've seen me looking.
I tried to pass it off as a casual sweep of the wall behind him, choosing the now seemingly interesting poster behind him to settle my eyes on as he made his way past and out the door. Under my breath, I exhaled in relief, while mentally slapping myself.
I am such an idiot.

Notes

And a wild Brendon Urie appears!
I'm not calling you pervs....but when I wrote that, that's what I immediately thought of.
The Universe is quite impressive...
