Why the hell are there so many high school AUs

Hey I'm Kellie, so obviously I shouldn't be one to talk considering I wrote a high school AU before I guess it's like a mcr fan fiction right of passage for everyone to write a high school AU. But literally I've read so many of them but I've basically read almost every fic on this site and also a03. I'm just kinda itching for more individual and different fics because it's either all high school AU or porn. Now don't get me wrong their both great but do we ever come up with anything different ?

I'm definitely going to agree with you on that, I kinda just wish there were more creative AUs

@xMyxIfinitexRomancex Have you read any of Lyra's work? She always has some pretty interesting plots and is one of my favourite fanfic writers. She's been MIA for a while now though, so inomplete stories may never be finished.

Lol yeah you're right. Personally I really enjoy those kinds of stories cause they give me something to relate to. I guess it is a rite of passage. But if you want a really good fic that isn't any of those things then you should read "Sing". Its amazing. There's always vampire AU's as well haha. I've subscribed to some really great (sadly inactive) stories if you wanna know any

Tbh I think werewolf and vampire Aus are my favorite, if you haven't read " f*ck and run " yet you should omg its life but it is a wip but it's honestly so creative and great it kills me. It's just like if you go on A03 all of the completed stories are porn, and if you come here all the completed stories I've either read already or there high school Aus

i think it's rather convenient to writers and such, and it's definitely one of my favourites to write. There are so many possibilities with so many factors you can mess around with, and I just love it.

I agree that one of the reasons high school AUs are used is that they're convenient. For one, it gives a solid reason for the characters to see each other constantly, which can be more difficult in other scenarios where they're older. Also, many writers are still in high school, and one of the golden values for writers, especially beginners, is to write what you know. If high school is something you know well, that makes it easier to try to stay realistic. Just my thoughts. cx

Idk, its easy to write and give way to possiblitys but less creativity depending on how you do it

dude honestly i wish i knew why there were so many. im pretty guilty of it because all of my plots are different but i somehow always end up putting them in their teenage years. its just easier because it's more fictional in a way i guess?? i tend to not like fics that are just about them being in the band on tour and stuff because high school aus and shit are cliche, but creative in a weird way. they make your brain imagine things more.

I totally get it guys I've been guilty of writing one too, it just that recently it's all smut and high school Aus and I wish someone could come up with something different like alpha omega or fertile or dom maybe like anything other then that ( I'm pretty big on supernatural elements)
