Reccommended Length?

New to writing fan fic and I see so many varying lengths - what is too long for a chaptered story, word count wise? I want to really give my story some depth, but don't want to overwhelmed the readers here.

Tips? Trade secrets?

It all depends on the reader. I would say most people prefer long multi-chapter stories where each chapter is at least 1,000 words. That's what I see the most of anyway.

(But then you have people me who won't read anything longer than 5,000 words total lol)

But for multi chapter I would say anything longer than 5,000 words is too long BUT I know there are really popular fics with massively long chapters. There's really no set length that's liked universally but it seems like the most popular fics (on this site anyway) are around 600 words per chapter with 10+ chapters.

But again, it really depends on who's reading it. Sorry I couldn't be more help ;-;

There's no limit, but if you're starting a long story, stick with it. I've started stories and then gotten bored, so maybe you should write it all first, have a beta or friend for feedback, then update weekly or when asked to :)
