I'm Trying To Hold On To Everything And Not Mess Up Everything
Gerard's POV
I leaned against the doorframe and drank my coffee as I overlooked a concentrated Frankie while he played the most beautiful mix of random chords I had ever heard. He always sat around and fiddled with Pansy, but this was different. I actually felt the music running through my veins and my mind started moving a thousand miles an hour. I grabbed my notebook and my hands took it upon themselves to scribble across the paper. He asked me what I was writing and I waved my hand in his face to keep him playing. I didn't know what I was writing, but I was onto something.
After two hours of writing and scraping, I was finally satisfied. "I fucking got it!" Frankie looked at me in relief seeing how he had been playing nonstop, I'm surprised his fingertips weren't raw with blood. I wrote "Skylines and Turnstiles" big across the top of the page. We looked at each other in excitement, "Wanna see what it sounds like?"
He started playing the chords out slowly as I waited, when I was sure he was completely sure he had tuned everything out, I started singing,
"You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out..."
Before I could carry on to the chorus, the riffs abruptly stopped, I automatically put my gaze down on my shoes as I waited for his harsh criticism. "You don't like it, do you?", I said shyly without looking up at him.
"Like it? Fucking Gee. I can't even describe how I feel about it. What I'm wondering is why the fuck did you hide your voice from me? You're amazing." I turned towards him and he had a mile long grin stretched across his face. I could tell he meant what he said, his smile and happiness was always so genuine. I shrugged and just said I never thought it was anything special. "Your voice is perfect. Everything about it is. You have a different sound and that's what I've been looking for. I didn't want anyone that sounded like Cobain or fucking Grohl. God, thank you Gee.", he sat Pansy down and gave me a short kiss, "Come on, I'm starving."
We threw on our hoodies and headed down to our favorite sushi restaurant. "Well if it isn't my favorite couple, usual table?", said Reagan, the waitress who served us on the regular. We came when we knew she worked because she was always entertaining. "So what have you two lovely ladies been up to?", she said with a smile as she handed us our menus. Frankie told her that we were forming a band and we had just finished our first song, "Well congrats to that. I'll expect to see you guys down at the Fitz soon then huh?"
We chuckled and I shook my head, "I don't know. That may be a little out of our league right now.", I said as I gave her back the menu. "But what I do know is you shouldn't even give us menus anymore. We always get the same thing." We all laughed as she picked up Frankie's.
"Well I have to look like I'm doing my job right sometimes. I'll have your food right out.", she said and then headed into the kitchen. Our food came out shortly after and while we were eating, we discussed whether we would take the band farther than the wedding.
"I mean if we have the time for it, why the fuck not?", Frankie said while taking a mouthful of tuna in. I nodded and suggested that we don't make it anything too serious until we were both done with school. Frankie choked on his food and before I could ask if he was okay, he nodded as if he read my mind. "Yeah, right. School.." I raised my brow at him as Reagan came to pick up the check and we started on our way home.
We got to the apartment and Frankie busted through the door like he was in a rush. "Frankie, what is going on with you? You're acting fucking weird." He acted like he didn't hear me and turned on the tv. I rolled my eyes and said it again, this time being a little more irritated than the last, but he still ignored me. Finally I turned off the tv and stood in front of him. "What the fuck is wrong with you, Frank?" He looked at me with disappointment because he knew I was mad when I called him Frank. My mind was trying to figure our what in the world happened in the last hour to make him freak the fuck out?
"Well Gee, there's something I have to tell you."
As soon as I heard those words, my heart dropped and I started preparing myself for the worst. I nodded him to go on and he ran his head through his hair as he turned his back to me.
"Well baby...I dropped out of school."
