Chapter 9: The Bookstore

Irmarie P.O.V.
"Wait! We are going to ride there." Gerard said.
"Yeah. I'm not going to walk all the way to Barnes and Noble. That's too far." I said. I knocked on the door.
"I'LL GET IT!" Yelled Spike.
Spike opened the door. "Oh, hey guys."
"Keys. Now." I said.
"What for?" Spike asked.
"We're going to visit Mikey." I said.
"Oh. Okay. Well, which car are you going to take?" Spike asked.
"Can we take yours?" I asked.
"If you're driving, then yes." Spike said looking at Gerard.
"Don't worry, I will." I said.
He handed me the keys. "Come on," I said.
I got in the drivers seat as Gerard got shotgun. I turned on the car and waited for it to heat up.
"Lets see what Spike had," I said looking through his Cd's. "Hm. I'm going to put on Man Overboard for you." I said and put on the CD.
Rare was the first one to play.
"So what is this band?" Gerard asked.
"What?"
"The genera."
"Oh! It's pop punk." I said. He nod his head.
After the car was heated up, I pulled out of the drive way. When Rare was done and Teleport came on, Gerard began to talk.
"So, what's your favorite band?" He asked.
"I don't have a favorite band. I love every band equally. Well, except for one band that I just don't like, but I'm not going to say. Anyways, yeah, I don't have a favorite band." I said.
"Why don't you have a favorite band?" Gerard asked.
"Well." I began. "I just don't. Every band has a different message that they send out. I like all of their messages. It's like, picking your favorite child. It's too hard and you don't want to do it." I said.
"I wish it was the same with me," Gerard mumbled.
"What?" I asked looking at him.
"The whole picking your favorite child thing. My parents favor Mikey." Gerard said.
"That's not true. I bet they love you both equally." I said.
"No. You just don't get it." Gerard said.
"Well, I guess I don't but, I don't think your parents are like that," I said.
"They don't like me because of how I treated Mikey. Like I said before, I treated him like shit!" Gerard said.
"Don't put yourself down." I said.
"Sorry." He said.
I kept my eyes on the road. There was a grey van next to me. I stopped at a red light and looked around.
"Have you ever been there?" I asked Gerard.
"Been where?"
"To that bowling alley." I said.
"Oh, there? Yeah, I've been there before." Gerard said.
"Cool. Is it fun?" I asked.
"Yeah. You haven't been there?" He asked.
"Nope." I said.
"Really? Not even for, like a date?" Gerard asked.
"No..." I said.
"Have you been there with your- family before?" Gerard asked. I know he was going to ask 'have you been there with your friends' instead of family.
"No. But we do go to Skate City." I said.
"See, now I don't go there." He said.
"Really. Not even when your girlfriend asks you?" I smiled.
"No. I kind of don't know how to skate." He mumbled.
"I can take you there some time." I said.
"Really?" He smiled.
"Yeah. I can teach you to skate. It's not that hard." I said.
The light turned green and off we went.
"Okay. How long is it going to take me to learn how to skate?" Gerard asked.
"Not long. My Dad taught me how to skate. My Mom was going to, but Dad decided he should teach me." I said.
"Okay." He said.

----------

I parked the car and Gerard and I ran to the bookstore because it was fucking cold.
The bookstore was warm. (Thank goodness.) There wasn't a lot of people in here. Just maybe like five people.
Mikey was working the cash register, but he was talking to a fellow coworker.
"Hey Mikes! Hey Alicia!" I called.
"Hey Irmarie," they both called back.
"Come on," I said to Gerard and we walked up to the cash register.
"How's business," I said.
"Today is slow." Alica said.
"Well, today the weather man did say there was going to be snow." I said.
"Plus, it looks gloomy and it just makes you lazy." Gerard said.
"Who's your friend?" Alicia asked.
"He's Gerard. My brother," Mikey said before I did.
"Oh. Nice to meet you, Gerard." Alicia said.
"Nice to meet you too." He said.
"So, any new books?" I asked.
"Well, Monument 14 has been very popular, along with The Mortal Instruments series," Mikey said.
"I'll check Monument 14 out," I said. I then turned to Gerard. "What's your favorite book?" I asked.
"I uh, don't read." He said.
"You're kidding, right." I said and turned to Mikey. "Please tell me he's kidding." I said.
"Nope. He's telling the truth." Mikey said.
"Oh. Okay." I said.
"The reason I don't read is just I don't know what to read." Gerard confessed.
"Hm. OH! I know." I said. "You can start reading comic books!" I said.
"Yeah." Mikey smiled.
"Come on," I took Gerard's hand and pulled him to where the comic books are, which are on the third floor...
The Barnes and Noble that Mikey works at has three floors because it's actually kind of small in width.
The first floor has the books for older people and the music and movie store, too. The second floor has more books for adults. The third floor has books for teenagers and kids, and comic books.
"Which one should we show him," Asked Mikey.
"Hey, Gerard. What seems more interesting to you?" I asked.
"Puck Rock Jesus!" Mikey said.
"Hey, what are these?" Gerard called.
His back was to us. He was looking at something.
"What do have there?" I asked.
"Some kind of comic called Naruuto," Gerard said.
"You mean Naruto not Naruuto," I smiled.
"Yeah. That. Thanks for correcting me. But, I don't understand on how you read it," Gerard said with a confused face.
I gave a small laugh because I swear he looked cute.
IRMARIE!
"It's a Japanese manga." I said.
"And what's so special about it?" Gerard asked.
"You don't read it left to right." I said. "See." I pointed. "You read this first and then you continue to read it like that, like you would if you're reading a book. It's just you read it from right to left." I said.
"Oh! Well, that makes sense." He muttered.
"It okay, Gee," I said and ruffled put his hair.
"Oh, he chose to read Naruto," Mikey asked.
"Yep." Gerard said.
"Do you want to buy it?" I asked.
"Yeah. I'm actually interested in it." He said.
"Wow, you actually got him interested in a book!" Mikey whispered to me.
"Yeah. I did." I whispered back.
We went to the cash register. Alicia was still there, but she was reading a book. She looked up and smiled at Mikey.
Oh, somebody has a crush on Mikey. I sang in my head.
"How much is it?" Gerard asked.
"I'll pay for it, don't worry." Mikey said.
"Oh, come on dude." He said.
"No, I'm serious." Mikey said.
"No, I'll pay for it." I said.
"I said I will," Mikey said
"No bro, I want to pay for it." Gerard said.
Okay, I'll tell you something, Mikey and I are stubborn motherfuckers. So the fact that we both want to pay for Gerard's book is going to be World War Three.
"On the house." Alicia said. Yeah... Alicia is the manager of this Barnes and Noble.
"Okay." We all said.
Mikey and I know when Alicia makes the decisions between us, it's better to do it because she too was stubborn like a us motherfuckers. And I don't think either of us wants to start World War Three in a bookstore.
We thanked Alicia then left the bookstore.
"Want to get some coffee?" I asked Gerard.
"Yeah." he said.
