Hold on Till May
Chapter 4: Friends
Gerard P.O.V.
Giovanni and Gabriel were in my room. We played video games and talked about school.
"So, hows the emo?" Giovanni asked.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"The emo. What can we use against her?" Gabriel asked.
"Dude, don't do anything to her," I warned them.
I don't know why, but I started to feel guilty for some reason.
"Ooh, Gerard likes the emo," Giovanni said.
"No I don't. You know my brother, Mikey right. I think Mikey likes her," I made up the excuse. I don't think Mikey likes her at all. I think Mikey just wants to be her friend just as much as Irmarie
wants to be his friend.
"Really? The emo faggot likes the emo," Gabriel said.
"Stop calling Mikey that!" I snapped.
"Sorry dude." Gabriel said
"I fucking hate Mrs. Hale. Who does she think she is giving me detention for calling the emo, emo." Giovanni said.
"Well, you fucking called her sister-in-law emo." Gabriel said.
"So what. It's none of her fucking business." Giovanni said.
"Sister-in-law. Mrs. Hale likes her sister-in-law, that's why," I said.
"And she gave me a fucking lesson to be fucking open minded and shit. The bitch is stupid. I'm fucking open minded already!" Giovanni said.
"Hey, Giovanni, do you think she can be right?" I asked.
"No way." Giovanni said.
"Well, if you think about it, I think there is a slight possibility that she can be right." I said.
"They started changing you!" Gabriel said.
"No they haven't. I'm still the same Gerard Way." I said.
"Boys! Dinner's ready!" Mom called.
We all ran down stairs. I know Mom and Dad hate my friends. I know they don't like me either.
"Mikey!" Mom called.
"Yes, Mom?" Mikey asked as he came downstairs from his room.
"Good you're here," Mom said.
"Can I eat in my room," Mikey asked.
Mom looked at my friends and nodded to Mikey. Mikey took his plate.
"Aw, what's wrong?" Giovanni said to Mikey.
"Guys, stop it," I snapped.
"Fine." They said.
"Sorry Mrs. W, but we have to go, Mom wants us to be home early," Giovanni said. "Come on Gabe."
"Well, bye," Mom said stunned.
Gabriel and Giovanni left and Mom picked up their plates. Mikey was still in the room when that happened.
I looked down at my food and ate.
"Can I sit next to you?" Mikey mumbled.
I smiled. "Sure."
Mikey took the seat next to me and ate his food. Mom gave an 'aw' since we haven't been seeing eye to eye lately.
After Mom left to go pick up Dad from work, Mikey began to talk.
"So, Mrs. Hale paired you up with Irmaire."
"How'd you know," I asked.
"School." Mikey said.
We sat in silence for a moment. "Do you think she can be my friend?" Mikey asked.
"I'm sure she can. She seems like a nice person." I said.
"You are changing," Mikey mumbled.
"I am? Is that bad?" I asked.
"No. It's good actually. I mean, you usually insult me along with your friends and wouldn't give a shit if I was hurt or not." Mikey mumbled. "But, after you talked to Irmarie, you stood up for me."
I felt the guilt wave come back to me. Have I really been cruel to my brother? Is that why my parents didn't like me?
"I'm sorry, Mikey." I said.
"It's fine." Mikey said.
"I guess Mrs. Hale was right. I do have an ignorant mind." I said.
"Mrs. Hale is always right." Mikey gave a small smile.
"So, who are you paired up with?" I asked.
"A guy named Austin," Mikey asked.
"Carlile or Smith?" I asked.
"Carlile." Mikey said.
"Have you talked to him before?" I asked.
"Yeah. He's a cool dude." Mikey said.
I nod. "Do you think they hate me?"
"Carlile, yeah he does." Mikey said.
"No, not Austin. But, wait! He does hate me!"
"Yeah. Remember Giovanni and Gabriel beat him up and you were look out. You didn't do shit to stop it. That's why he hates you." Mikey said.
"Nice way to drop the truth bomb." I muttered.
"You're welcome," Mikey said.
"But I was talking about Giovanni and Gabriel. Do you think they'll hate me?" I asked.
"If Mrs. Hale can change them, then no. But, if she can't, then yes." Mikey said.
"So, there is a big possibility that I will loose them," I asked.
"Yes. Considering they have stupid minds. But, if they leave you, Gee, they were never your true friends to began with." Mikey said.
"Thanks Mikey, that makes me feel a lot better," I said. Note the sarcasm.
"You're welcome." Mikey laughed.
"I don't think we bond enough," I said.
"We don't." Mikey said.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" I asked.
"Work at the bookstore, why?" Mikey asked.
"Oh. Me and Irmarie are going to be at the music store. I just thought if you might want to come." I said.
"Sorry, but I can't. But, I wish you luck with her. She's not a bad person. Don't be afraid to get close to her, okay?" Mikey said.
"Okay."
"Nice to have you back bro." Mikey said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Before you met them, you were nicer to me. You liked rock. You didn't hate us. But every since you met Giovanni and Gabriel in eight grade, you changed." Mikey said.
"Oh. I never met to hurt anybody. I'm sorry," I said.
"It's fine." Mikey said putting his plate in his sink.
"Mikey. Why is it when I talk to Irmarie, I feel guilty?" I asked him.
"Have you done anything to her?" Mikey asked.
"What do you mean." I said.
"Boy did they brain washed you!" Mikey said sitting down. "You and Giovanni and Gabriel are the jocks. Have you seen the movies where the big football players make fun of the rest of the school along with their stupid bitches," Mikey said.
"Yeah." I said slowly.
"You're one of them. Every since Giovanni and Gabriel came to your life, you've been one of them." Mikey said.
"Oh. Is that why I feel guilty when I talk or look at Irmarie?" I asked.
"Sort of. Did you bullied her at all?" Mikey asked.
"I guess. One time we shoved her in her locker." I said.
"Did she do anything?" Mikey asked.
"No. She... just let it happen..." I said.
"Oh. That's weird..." Mikey said.
"Yeah." I said thinking back at the memory.
* "Bro let's lock up the emo bitch!" Giovanni said.
Gabriel and I agreed. We went to look for Irmarie. After a while of searching, we found her putting her things in her locker.
We made sure she was alone in the hall. We went behind her back. She turned around and saw us.
Giovanni grabbed her by the shoulder, Gabriel and I pushed her in the locker and closed the locker.
"That was too easy," Gabriel said. *
I couldn't help but shiver that the memory. I was being a bully to a girl I didn't know.
Now that I think of the memory, I kept thinking of how she looked at us. She looked at us with her sad brown eyes. I think she wanted us to hurt her. But why?
"Well, see you later then," Mikey said after a while.
The whole night I was up with the memory. It had now disturb me. I'm going to fix it though. Tomorrow when I see Irmarie, I'm going to apologize to her.
