Chapter 39: High School Never Ends Part 1
Irmarie P.O.V.
I walked to the bus stop with my head down low.
Gerard kept looking at me with worried eyes, mainly because he was concern about me going back to school.
"Are you sure you want to go back to school?" Gerard asked holding my hand.
"Yes. I already lost a whole week of school." I said.
"Okay. I'm just worried about you." Gerard said.
"You worry to much about me," I said looking up at him.
By now, we had reached the bus stop. Mikey, Frank, and Venus were talking to each other.
Everyone turned around and saw me. I can feel their eyes looking at me and heard a couple of whispers.
I know they were talking about me, I know the whole school have or were talking about me.
I felt very awkward, so I kind of hid behind Gerard.
"Hey Irmarie." Venus said quietly.
"Hey..."
There was an awkward silence. All you heard was cars passing by and whispers about me.
"So... my Mom is due in September... a month before my birthday..." Frank said trying to break the awkward silence.
"Congratulations." We all said.
By now the bus had pulled to the curb. Gerard and I sat in the front of the bus.
There was a lot of noise in the bus. Every once in a while I would hear my name. At first I thought they were talking about me, but when I turned around they were looking at me and then they looked away and pretended to talk about something else.
I sighed and looked at my hands.
"You sure you don't want to skip school?" Gerard asked me.
"I'm sure. I have to face high school anyways." I said.
Gerard sighed and kissed me cheek. Mr. Edwards was looking at us.
"Hey! No romance in this bus, you two!" He said in his awful annoying voice he had.
Apparently, no in this bus except Frank, Mikey, and Venus knew Gerard and I were dating. Everyone looked at us and I felt my cheeks get hot.
"This is awkward..." Gerard whispered to me.
"You're telling me?" I said and gave a small laugh.
Once the bus dropped us off school, Gerard, Mikey, Venus, Frank, and I walked to our lockers together.
I kept my head down as we walked. Everyone was looking at me and whispered things to each other.
I had no idea what they were whispering about, but I'm pretty sure they were all about how I lost my dad and my whole family situation things. They probably made up a rumor too to top it all off.
I sighed and went to my locker. I swear, sometimes these things are hard to open up. This time my locker wouldn't open, so I kicked it hard enough to open it.
I put in all my books and got out the ones I needed. Since I first had science, (and that's on the second floor,) and next I had Spanish, (third floor,) I grabbed both of the books for those classes since Seniors have their lockers on the first floor.
I closed my locker and walked to the end of the hallway.
Our little group was there talking about somethings.
"Hey." I said as I walked there.
"You okay?" Alan asked.
"Fine. Sort of." I quietly said.
"We got your back," Austin said.
"Thanks you guys." I whispered, fearing if I raised my voice a little higher I might start cry.
Gerard wrapped his hands around me and hugged me.
"Are you sure you'll be okay?" Gerard asked.
"I'm eighty percent sure." I said.
"That's not enough for me." Gerard said looking at me with worried hazel eyes.
"If I need you I'll find you." I said.
By now, the group had slowly left to their classrooms. There was still a lot of people in the hallways.
"Okay. How about after school we go and get some ice cream?" Gerard asked.
I gave a small smile. "Okay." I said.
"Meet me by the locker." Gerard said.
I nodded and he kissed me.
"I love you." Gerard said.
"I love you too." I said.
He gave me a quick kiss on my forehead before we both headed to our classes. Gerard had a different class than me for first period and for Spanish. I was in Spanish five while he was in Spanish two.
I kept my gaze down as I walked to science, trying to avoid all of the people's stares.
When I walked into science, nobody but Mrs. Romero was there.
Mrs. Romero was sitting behind her desk while reading a book. Her orange hair was pulled back into a ponytail.
She looked up and gave me a warm smile.
"Glad to have you back, Ms. Hale." She said.
"Thanks." I said as I sat at my assign seat.
Mrs. Romero stood up and walked over to me.
"How are you doing?" She asked me.
"Okay I guess." I said.
"You know, you're a strong person for coming today." Mrs. Romero said.
"Really? Why is that?" I asked.
"You know why, deep down in your heart." She said and gave me a pat on the back before walking to her desk.
I sat there a thought for a moment.
I guess she meant what I didn't do to myself. I didn't cut, but that didn't mean I didn't do any damage to myself. I haven't have a decent meal yet, no matter how much Gerard tried to help me eat, I still haven't have a decent meal.
I looked down at my wrist. My old scars haven't faded away. I guess it's there because it now reminds me how better theses days are. But then again, how better are these days when I lost my Dad and my Mom is in a coma.
I thought of my parents. Where did everything go wrong? Why did God take my Dad? Was it his time to go?
And my Mom. Why did she have so much damage done to her? Now she can't wake up from this coma.
I start to wonder if my Mom will wake up at all. She missed Dad's funeral. When se wakes up, she'll be so desperate.
I wonder who is going to be my guardian until I am eighteen.
"Uh, hey, Irmarie." Aaron said as he took his seat next to me.
"Hey." I said not looking up.
As the classroom filled up, people will come to me and say how sorry they were. Honestly, I have no idea why they kept apologizing, its not like they planned this.
Sabrina came in. She walked over to me. Her flats echoed the classroom like a knife stabbing you in the heart.
"How's the little emo doing?" Sabrina asked me.
"Leave me alone." I said.
For a long time I was able to avoid Sabrina and her little crew of bitches, but now that Gerard and I had been friends and are now dating, she's been trying to make my life miserable since then.
I knew Sabrina and Gerard had dated during Sophomore year. Mikey told me all about it that year when we were in the music store.
It didn't end too well, according to Mikey. Gerard dumped her for this other chick named Jackie Luna. She was pretty, but wasn't Gerard's type to be honest. Guess he went for the looks back then.
"Why should I do that. Why weren't you here last week? We missed you, bitch." Sabrina snapped.
"Jesus Christ, leave her alone." Aaron said.
"No, no. She isn't Jesus. More like the devil." I gave a small smirk.
Sabrina gave a shock face as the guys at the table gave their ooo's and what not.
"You just got burn, bitch!" Randy Smith said.
"Fuck you, Hale!" Sabrina said ad left to her seat with a hot head.
I looked at Aaron and Aaron looked at me. We both laughed.
"Oh man, did you see her face," he laughed.
I nodded my head.
------------
When the bell rang for second period, I quickly walked to Spanish class. On the way there, I was pulled into the girls restroom.
"Hey! What gives!" I said.
I saw who pulled me in, it was Sabrina and her stupid little crew.
"You will pay bitch!" Sabrina said as one of her bitches kicked me down with her heels.
Seriously. Girls aren't aloud to wear heels to school, yet they wear them!
They all start to kick me. I block their kicks. I am seriously tired of their bullshit. I grabbed one of the girls legs and threw her to the floor, knocking all of them to the ground like bowling pins.
I quickly ran out of the restroom and into the halls.
I looked down at myself to see if I had any damages done. So far, I felt I bruise start to come in from my right side. I wasn't bleeding from anywhere, so that was good.
The bell rang and I quickly ran to the room and began my class.
---------------
I don't have the first two periods with anyone except Aaron.
I quickly walked to my locker and grabbed my books for math class next. I have that class with Mikey, Venus, Alicia, and Phil.
I sat at the back with them.
"Hey, Irmarie. How's it going?" Venus asked.
"Not so well." I said as I took a seat.
"Really? Rough morning?" Phil asked.
"Really rough." I said as I wince when I laid my arm on the table.
I took a quick look at my arm. I saw there was a big purple bruise already there below my elbow.
"Just great." I muttered.
"What happen? Did you fell again?" Mikey asked.
"Sure." I said and began to do the problems on the board.
I can feel them looking at me. It really did feel uncomfortable.
During class, I could hear them whispering to each other. I really couldn't make up the words.
I flinched when a crumbled up paper was thrown at me. I turned to see Alicia pointing to the paper.
I opened it.
'Who did that to you?'
I sighed and grabbed my pencil.
'Do what? What are you talking about?'
I threw it at Alicia.
In no more than a minute, the paper was thrown to me.
'Oh yeah, you're just going to ignore the bruise on your arm. Or should I say bruises.'
I looked at my arm. She was right. There were multiple bruises on my arms. I felt a sharp pain go to the side of my stomach. I wince a little bit and ignored it.
'I don't know.'
I threw the paper to Alicia.
In a minute, the paper was thrown to me. This time, in a different hand writing.
'Don't make us tell Gerard. -M'
I sighed again.
'It's nothing, really.'
I threw the paper ball at him.
"Ms. Hale! Pick that piece of paper you just thrown to Mr. Way and handed it to me." Mr. Parker said.
Fuck, I thought.
I got up from my seat ad grab the paper from Mikey.
"Fuck you guys," I whispered to them and then walked to the front of the room.
I gave the paper to Mr. Parker.
"Surely you won't mind me reading it to the class." He smirk.
You little shit, I thought.
I quickly went to my seat and put my head down and let the embarrassment hit me.
"Who did that to you?
"Do what? What are you talking about?
"Oh yeah, you're just going to ignore the bruise on your arm. Or should I say bruises.
"I don't know.
"Don't make us tell Gerard. M.
"It's nothing, really." Mr. Parker read out loud to the class.
Fuck.
"Ms. Hale, you may be excuse to the nurses office." Mr. Parker said.
I looked up to see if he was kidding. And he wasn't. He was filling out a pass and handed it to me.
"And on the way there, tell Mrs. Todd who did that to you." He said.
I nodded and picked my things up. I closed the classroom door and headed to the office.
Once there, I knocked Mrs. Flowers' office.
"Come in." She said in a motherly voice that made me think of Mom and miss her.
"Uh..." I said.
"What happen now?" Mrs. Flowers asked.
She knows when I'm in here it's never good news.
"Mr. Parker said I should see you because I got theses bruises." I said as I set my books down on a blue chair and sat down on the navy blue bed. I know the drill.
"How did you get those bruises?" She asked me as she lifted up the sleeve of my shirt and inspected it.
"I... fell," I said trying to hide the lie.
"Down the stairs?" She asked and I nodded.
She got the rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball.
"You have a whole bunch of bruises and cuts." She said as she dab the cotton ball into the rubbing alcohol.
She wiped off the dried blood that I didn't notice I had. I wince a couple of times because it really hurt.
"Where else do you have bruises and cuts?" She asked me.
"I guess the sides and maybe my stomach." I said.
I wouldn't say my stomach hurt since lunch is next.
She inspected it.
"Hmm. You have a lot of bruises and some cuts." She said and started cleaning my cuts.
The bell rang meaning class is over and first period lunch has started.
"Go grab your lunch and come back to the office and see Mrs. Reyes." Mrs. Flowers said.
My lunch period is longer than everyone else's. That's because I have to go to consoling due to my past.
What happen was that I once tried to commit suicide while I was here. Not a great idea, but when you're in so much pain, it was a terrific idea.
In the end, now I am suppose to go to the counsellor twice a week.
I grabbed my lunch and headed to Mrs. Reyes office. I don't usually eat when I go to counseling.
I knocked the door and opened it.
I wasn't sure why I always knocked first when I go to counseling. She already knows that I am going to come.
"Hello, Irmarie." She gave me a warm smile.
"Hi," I said as I took my seat and set my tray down at the table she had for me.
"How have you've been?" She asked.
Both she and I knew that my days have been horrible. Why is she asking me theses questions?
"You already know." I said.
"But it's better you tell me so you can get it out of your chest." Mrs. Reyes said.
"I guess," I muttered.
"So, how have you've been?" She asked again.
"Horrible." I said.
"I am sorry." She said.
"Why does everyone apologies when it's not their fault that my Dad died and my Mom is in a coma." I asked.
Mrs. Reyes sat back at her chair.
"Well, I'm not sure... but that's a very good question." Mrs. Reyes said.
I looked down at my hands and I played with my fingers.
"You haven't done anything to yourself, right?" Mrs. Reyes asked.
"No I haven't. I'm still clean." I said while showing my writs.
"I'm proud of you!" Mrs. Reyes smiled.
"Thanks."
"Do you have your journal with you?" Mrs. Reyes asked.
"It's in Mrs. Flowers' office." I said.
"Go get it." She said.
I got up and quickly went to go get my journal.
I have this journal that I get to write in. I usually write it in the middle of the night.
Mrs. Reyes asked me to write my feeling in the journal. If I didn't want her to read it, all I had to do is fold the paper in half.
I handed the journal to her. She reads them and looks up to me.
"I didn't know you and Gerard were dating. Congratulations. You really deserve happiness." She smiled.
I blushed when she said that. I had forgotten to fold the paper in half. But that doesn't matter now, she already read it.
Her expression changed as she read from last week's writing.
I bit my lip and hoped for the worst to just pass.
"Wow. You had a tough week." Mrs. Reyes said as she handed me my journal.
"Yeah. I did." I whispered.
"I'm very very proud of you. Keep up the good job. You may go now." Mrs. Reyes said.
"Thanks." I said and headed to the lunch room.
Austin, Alan, Venus, Frank, Jamia, and Gerard were sitting down at our table.
I walked to our table and sat next to Gerard.
"Hey my butterfly." Gerard said to me as he wrapped his arms around my waits. Which was kind of hard since I was pretty wide.
"Hey baby." I smiled.
"How was your day so far?" Gerard asked me.
"Okay I guess." I said and looked down my tray of food.
Mikey, Alicia, Phil, and Aaron came to the table.
"Lies." Alicia said.
"Irmarie." Gerard said.
"I'm fine, really." I said.
"No you're not! She had to go to the nurses office during math class." Mikey said.
"That's because we were passing a not about it and Mr. Parker read the note." I said.
"What happen?" Gerard asked me.
"Nothing okay. I just fell down some stairs because I am a klutz." I said and shrugged.
"You didn't say that to us." Venus said.
"That's because Mr. Parker took the note." I said.
"Irmarie. What really happen?" Gerard asked me.
"I told you. I fell down some stairs." I said.
We left it at that, but I knew they were thinking of something else. They didn't believe my lie.
"Food fight!" Some guy yelled in the middle of lunch.
He grabbed some of his meatballs and threw it at another student across the cafeteria.
Instead of hitting his target, it hit Sabrina. Giovanni happen to be next to her when it happen.
Giovanni grabbed his spaghetti and threw it at the dude but it hit Brian. And so the food fight begins.
Gerard and I quickly hid under the tables before any food hit us. It hit Frank and Jamia.
"You little piece of shits." Frank said before he threw some meatballs at someone.
Everyone but Gerard and I were in the food fight.
"Hey, let's get out of here!" I said to Gerard.
We crawled to the nearest exit which wasn't far away.
We quickly shut the door before any food hit us.
"That was close." Gerard said.
We stood up. Before we walked away the door opened revealing Mikey and Alicia escaping from the food fight.
"We survived!" Mikey said as he stood up.
"Thank goodness." I heard Alicia say.
"I doubt the rest of the guys will make it," I said.
"I heard Mr. Dan was going to be coming any minute." Mikey said.
"Oh snap." Gerard and I said before he grabbed my hand and began to run down the hallway, away from the lunch room.
"Go find your own hiding spots!" Gerard called to his brother.
"Fuck you!" Mikey playfully called as he ran the other side of the hall.
We actually ran out of school and to the bleachers of the school.
We saw some guys playing soccer on the field while Couch Joe watched the field.
Couch Joe was a cool couch. He doesn't mind us being out here during lunch.
We hid behind the bleachers and laughed.
"Oh man, they're really fucked." Gerard laughed.
"Yeah. I wish Frank good luck." I said knowing Uncle Aaron will flip off when he finds out.
"Irmarie. Mind asking you who did that to you?" Gerard asked me.
I bit my lip and looked down at my bruised arm.
"Come on. Please tell me." He said as he gently lifted my chin up so I can see his hazel eyes.
"Don't do anything stupid, okay." I said first.
"Okay."
"No, you have to promise me you won't do anything stupid." I said.
"I promise."
"Okay. Sabrina and her crew beat me at the girls restroom when I was heading to Spanish." I said.
"That bitch! I knew it was her." Gerard said.
"Then why'd you ask?" I said as he took a seat.
"Wanted to make sure." Gerard said.
I sighed. "Don't do anything stupid." I said again.
"I'm not." He said.
There was silence between us. All you heard was the guys shouting over the ball and what not.
"I deserved it though." I confessed.
"No you don't!" Gerard said.
"I did. I called her the devil in front of everyone. I had it coming." I said.
"No you don't. You spoke the truth. She is a she-devil." Gerard said.
"I still deserved it." I said.
Gerard pulled me into a big hug. "No, you really don't." He said and kissed my forehead.
He sighed and we stayed there in since for a couple of seconds.
"You didn't eat. Do you feel fine?" Gerard asked.
"I just haven't had a big appetite, that's all." I said.
"You need to eat, Irmarie. You need to so you can be healthy. Please don't go starving yourself." Gerard said.
"Why? Isn't being skinny in." I scoffed.
"Not if it means that you have to be starving yourself. You're beautiful just the way you are." Gerard said.
He leaned in and kissed me. He had his hands wrapped around my waist while I had mines around his neck. It seemed like milliseconds, but it was probably minutes before he and I pulled back.
"I love you for you." Gerard whispered.
I smiled and blushed. Maybe I am a person everyone wants to be with.
I walked to the bus stop with my head down low.
Gerard kept looking at me with worried eyes, mainly because he was concern about me going back to school.
"Are you sure you want to go back to school?" Gerard asked holding my hand.

Are you alive???
