Hold on Till May
Chapter 24: School, Students, and Subsitiutes
Gerard P.O.V.
That night on Valentine's Day, when I went home Mom and Dad had asked Mikey and I if we wanted to visit Grandma.
"She hasn't seen you guys in a long time. Lets go visit her this weekend." Mom said.
Mom looked very edgy or more worried when she said that. She had on a sad smile. Dad looked really sad.
Okay, what's going on, I thought to myself.
"Okay. Can I bring Irmarie? I think Grandma would like to meet her," I said.
"Sure you can." Dad smiled.
"By the way, how was your date with her?" Mom asked.
"Mom, it wasn't a date date. It was a friendly date. Plus, it was a triple-date plus two." I said.
"Technically, it was a quadruplet-date," Mikey said.
"Fine, quadruplet-date." I said.
"Okay, so how did it went?" Mom asked.
"Great. Alicia and I are dating now," Mikey smiled.
I can tell Mikey is happy with Alicia. Guess he didn't need my help.
"And how about you, Gerard?" Dad asked.
"Great. Irmarie taught me how to skate." I said.
"That's nice. So, tell her we'll visit Grandma Helena this Saturday at noon." Mom said.
"I will, well, I'm off for some sleep." I said and stood up.
I walked to my room upstairs. "Hey Gee! Wait up!" Mikey said.
"Yeah?"
"I saw you kissed her cheek. That's something." Mikey smiled.
"That doesn't mean anything. It was just a friendly kiss on the cheek. That was all." I shrugged.
"Gerard. You already admitted you love her. Quit being stupid." Mikey said.
"Fine. Okay. So what. She doesn't feel the same way." I said.
"Trust me, she does. I've seen the way she looks at you. She seems happier, too." Mikey said and left to his room.
I sighed and went to my room.
Why is my family making a big deal about my crush on Irmarie? I asked myself.
At the skating rink, when Irmarie told me why she had requested Hold on Till May, I felt kind of sad. I mean, yes there is a possibility that the third-degree Heart Block will be gone, but, she didn't sound convince it will go away.
So, when she said that that song reminded her of her Heart Block, I wanted Irmarie to be positive about it. So I said to hold on till May and kissed her cheek.
Oh God... what did I do! I kissed her cheek! I kissed her! Holy shit, what if she doesn't have to same feelings for me!
"Never been in this situation before?" Dad asked that the foot of my bed.
I didn't even realize I had my eyes closed and I was laying on my bed.
"N-no." I managed to choke out.
"Listen here son." Dad said and sat down on a chair. "Irmarie. She's a sweet girl. And I know that the only reason you two had even talked to each other is because of Mrs. Hale."
"Yeah." I said.
"I'll tell you something. Don't be afraid, okay. Fuck whatever other people will think of you. If you feel comfortable being around her and people like her, then, it's you. You don't have to be someone you're not." Dad said.
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked.
"Well, your mother told me to and paid me twenty bucks." Dad smiled.
"Oh God, Dad!" I laughed.
"What. It's true!" Dad said.
"Okay, night Dad!" I said and pushed him off the chair.
"Night, Gerard." Dad said and turned off the light.
I sighed and closed my eyes.
"Why did I kissed her cheek? Why, why, why." I said.
I was walking pass the school office when I saw Irmarie come out.
"Hey, Irma!" I called.
"Oh, hey Gee!" Irmarie smiled.
"What were you doing at the office?" I asked as we started walking down the hall.
"Uh... nothing." Irmarie said.
I questioned that 'nothing'. You don't go to a school office for no reason...
"Anyways, uh, remember I told you that my Grandma would like to meet you? Well, we're going to visit her tomorrow. Do you want to come?" I asked.
"Sure. I'll come. What time?" Irmarie asked.
"We'll go over around one." I said.
"Okay. So, tell me about her." Irmarie said.
"Okay. Well, she's a very sweet old lady who likes heavy metal. There." I said.
"Okay, but tell me more about your Grandma." Irmarie said.
"Well, her name is Helena." I said.
"You idiot, I'm being serious here." Irmarie said and gave me a gentle punch.
"And so am I." I said.
"Yeah. Okay, see you at lunch." Irmarie smiled and left the her classroom.
As I walked to my classroom, Giovanni and his friends appear. One of his friends has Gabe. Gabriel's hands were behind his back.
"Finally we find the Way," Giovanni said.
"The fuck do you want? Leave Gabe alone." I said annoyed.
"I'm getting the old gang together. Come on, Gerard." Giovanni said.
"How about this, leave me the fuck alone! I don't to be your buddy anymore, you dickhead." I said.
"Come on, Gerard. Lets hang out like the good old days." Giovanni said. "How about we go to a party this Saturday?"
"Sorry dude, I am not going." I said.
"Why the fuck not? You used to love going to parties and getting French kiss by all those girls." Giovanni said.
"Thanks for the offer, but, no. I'm going to visit my Grandma, okay." I said.
"Well, will you look at that boys. Way has gone soft." Giovanni said. They laughed.
"So what if I gone 'soft'. You would like to visit your Grandmas too, hypocrites." I said.
"Whoa! Someone just used a big word here!" Giovanni said.
"Dude, just leave me alone, okay?" I said and started walking away.
Giovanni grabbed my arm and spin me around to face him.
"Fine then, emo." Giovanni hissed.
"Dude, find another word to insult me, then we'll talk." I said then walked away.
We were at lunch now. Before lunch I had history class and we had a substitute.
"So, how was class with Mrs. Clemms?" Irmarie asked Venus, Frank, and I.
"Horrible. Worst substitute teacher ever." Venus said.
"Gerard traded seats with Marlyn Moya so we could sit next to each other." Frank said.
"And did it work?" Irmarie asked.
"Yeah it worked..." I said.
"It worked their ass! These two idiots kept talking and interrupting Mrs. Clemms. And these two guys weren't the only ones who traded seats." Venus said.
"Of course not. You traded seats with Valerie Todd." I said.
"I know- we were sitting next to each other." Venus said.
"Okay, keep on telling us the story," Mikey said and threw a grape at me.
"Well then. Mrs. Clemms got pissed off and asked how our Mr. Ross puts up with us. So, she checked the seating-arrangement-paper-thingy and she saw that all of us weren't in our spots." I said.
"You guys are stupid!" Jamia said.
"What, we all did it!" Frank said putting his arm around her.
"No, you guys are stupid." Irmarie said.
"What. What did we do wrong?" Venus asked.
"Well, for one, you guys didn't traded with guys." Irmarie said.
"Why do we need to do that for?" Frank said.
"Well, so when she checks the seating arrangement you won't have a girls name!" Mikey said throwing another grape at me.
"Hey, keep your grapes to yourself!" I said.
"And how would you know it works?" Venus asked.
"Well, when Alicia, Jamia, and I went to history class, we took Maria Reyes, Abby Smith, and Kelly Jones seats. When she checked the seating arrangements she thought we were them and they were us." Irmarie said.
"Who were you?" I asked Irmarie.
"Easy. Who's has a name that matches my skin tone." Irmarie said pointing to herself.
"Abby?" Frank said.
"No Frank. Abby has a fake tan. Plus, no way a white girls name will match with my physical features." Irmarie said.
"Dude, please tell me you were being sarcastic." Mikey said.
"Okay. I was being sarcastic." Frank said.
"Thank God." Mikey breathed out.
"He wasn't sarcastic." Irmarie said.
"Psh! Yes I was." Frank said and rolled his eyes.
"Dude, I will shove this grape up your nose-" Irmarie began.
"Okay! Let me guess. You were Maria Reyes." I said.
"Yes. Congratulations, you win this grape." Irmarie said and threw me the grape.
"Thanks." I said.
"So, anyways, that's how it went. Man, I love it when we have substitute teachers." Alicia said.
The conversation continued, but I wasn't paying attention. I looked at the cafeteria's doors and there was Giovanni and his friends. He saw me looking at them and now he's coming...
Shit. Why the fuck did you make eye contact! I thought to myself.
"What's wrong." Irmarie said. Her hand was on my arm. She was looking at me with her brown eyes.
"N-nothing." I manage to say.
"Well, what are you looking at?" Irmarie said and she looked where I was looking at. "Oh."
"Yeah." I said.
"Hello emos." Giovanni said.
"The fuck do you want now.?" Frank complained.
"Hey, watch it or I'll beat you!" Giovanni said.
Irmarie had a bored look on her face. "Can you please leave us alone?" She said slowly. Guess she's tired of his bullshit.
"Shut it emo fatass." Giovanni snapped.
"What did you call my cousin?" Frank said standing up.
"You heard me dweeb. I called her an emo fatass." Giovanni said.
"Oh hell no-" Frank said.
"Frankie, please sit down." Irmarie said.
"What are you going to do, fatass? Loose some weight!" Giovanni said.
Irmarie gave him a I'm-tired-of-you-bullshit look. "You sound like a fucking nena!" She said. Frank chuckled.
"What the fuck is that!? What are you laughing about!" He said.
"Oh boy. She called you a pussy, idiot. Even I knew that!" Frank laughed.
"Way to sell me out, wey." Irmarie said.
"What, now you're going to say shit in Spanish, Irmarie?" Frank laughed.
"Puta madre!" Irmarie said.
"Now what she said?" Giovanni said.
"You better not sell me out this time, puta." Irmarie said to Frank.
"Anybody else lost?" Alicia asked.
"Yeah." We all said.
"She called me a bitch and then said fuck." Frank said.
"Is this really a good time to curse in Spanish!" I said to Irmarie who had her head on the table.
"What do you want me to do? Curse in French 'cause I can do that!" Irmarie said.
"W-we're going to leave you guys now." Giovanni said looking at Irmarie, the left.
"Orange." Irmarie said.
"Yep." Frank said.
Irmarie raised her head up. "Okay." She said.
"What just happen?" Mikey asked.
"Oh, I just freaked Giovanni out." Irmarie said.
"By cursing?" Jamia said.
"In Spanish." Frank said.
"Was this all a plan?" I asked.
"Nope!" Irmarie and Frank said.
"Oh, okay..." I muttered.
The bell rang. "Well, time for class." Jamia said.
"You weird me out, Irmarie. But, in a good way." I said.
"Good." Irmarie said. "So, see you tomorrow?"
"See you tomorrow." I said.
