Hold on Till May
Chapter 11: The Music; Day 1
Irmarie P.O.V.
I couldn't help but think why had Gerard kissed my check. I mean, we weren't at Starbucks anymore.
I sighed and brushed my hair.
When I fell, I didn't feel the sting on my hands because I was use to it. I use to harm myself, that's way.
There was a knock on the door.
"I'll get it," Coco called.
I knew it was Gerard. I grabbed The White Stripes' Elephant and ran downstairs.
"Hey, Gerard." I said.
Coco and Gerard were in the living room. Gerard smiled at me. "Hey."
"Good music," Coco said to me.
"Yeah." I said.
"Well, I'll leave you two alone. Spike and I are going to the movies in a couple of minute," Coco said.
"Okay, bring me your left over popcorn," I said.
"Will do." Coco said and left the living room.
"Is that their album?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah. It's called Elephant." I said.
"The girl and the boy in the cover, who are they?" He asked.
"They're The White Stripes. The guy's name is Jack White, he's the guitarist. The girl's name is Meg White, she's the drummer." I said and headed to put the CD in.
"Wait, girls can drum?" Gerard asked.
"Yeah, if you have a big desire to learn. Anybody can drum. It's not a sexist type of thing." I said and insert the CD in.
Seven Nation Army was their first track of the album. "Okay. Is there more girls that drum?" He asked.
"Yeah. There's Kitty from Mindless Self Indulgence, Nia Lovelis from Cherri Bomb, Samantha Maloney from Hole, Mötley Crüe , Eagles of Death Metal, do I have to continue?" I asked.
"No. They must really know how to rock." He smiled.
"They do." I smiled.
Through the whole album, we sat in silence. Well, Gerard sat in silence, I was laying on the couch, head close to the floor, feet up.
"They're good." He said after the album had finished.
"They are. Sadly they broke up two years ago." I said.
"Really? Oh, I would of love to see them live." Gerard said.
"I did once. They're pretty amazing. I said and tried to get up, but like always, I feel to the floor.
"Are you okay?" Gerard laughed.
"I do that a lot." I said and headed to the stereo.
"So, what type of music genera is next?" He asked.
"Hm. You listened to Green Day, Paramore, Man Overboard, and The White Stripes. Hm, how about..." I said while looking at the shelf full of Cd's.
"Have all of those bands been Alternative?" Gerard asked.
"All of them but Man Overboard. They're pop punk." I said.
"Are you going to keep me around Alternative?" Gerard asked.
"For like a day or two. Aha! Here we go," I said grabbing an All Time Low CD. I held it up so Gerard can see it.
"All Time Low?" Gerard said.
"Yeah." I said and let the CD play.
I return to my position.
"So, what's the same of the album?" Gerard asked,
"Don't Panic." I said.
The Reckless and the Brave played and I sang to it.
"Does the booklet have the lyrics?" Gerard asked.
"Yep." I said.
I opened the CD case and handed to booklet to Gerard. We both sang the chorus of the song:
So Long live the reckless and the brave// I don't think I wanna be saved// my song has not been sung// and long live the fast times// so come what may// I don't think I'll ever be saved// our song has not been sung// long live us.
That's how it went with the All Time Low album. We sang and sang. Gerard sang the chorus of the songs.
"Hey, Irmarie, what do you do when you like someone?" He asked.
"Stare at them from the distance," I said.
He laughs. "Oh wait, you're serious."
"Yep." I said.
"Oh..." He said.
"Hey, want to go to Skate City next week?" I asked.
"Sure." Gerard said.
Silence followed. I wonder sometimes what Gerard thinks. Is he just faking that he wants to get to know me? Does he really hate my guts right now?
I sighed.
"Hey, Irmarie." Gerard said.
"Yeah?"
"In music class a couple of weeks ago, Ms. Lee asked who could play an interment and you raised you hand. What interment do you play?" Gerard asked.
"I play guitar." I said.
"Really? Can I hear you play?" Gerard asked.
"Uh, sure-"
"Hey Irmarie! We're going out! Don't burn the house down!" Spike said.
"Don't worry. It won't happen again," I said.
After they left, Gerard looked at me and smirked. "You burnt down the house?"
"No. I almost did. There's a difference you know." I said.
"How did you almost burn down the house?" He asked.
"I wanted food." I said.
"Oh. I see where that can go wrong." He said.
"Hey, I was thirteen at the time." I said.
"Yeah. I can so see it." Gerard said.
"I'll go get my guitar." I said.
I got up and ran to my room. I grabbed my red electric guitar and headed back to the living room.
"Hey, do you want me to play on the electric or acoustic?" I asked.
"Electric is fine." Gerard said.
I plugged my electric guitar. "What song do you want me to play?"
"What ever you like." Gerard said.
"I'm going to play you Misery Business by Paramore." I said.
And so I did. I liked playing my guitar. I'm not sure why, I just do.
"Wow, you're pretty good." Gerard said.
"Thanks. I try to practice when I have time." I said.
I went back to my room and but my guitar on it's stand. When I went back to the living room, Gerard was looking at a picture of me on the wall.
"Hey, why are you dressed up in a very puffy dress?" Gerard asked.
"Uh, that was when I did my quinceañera." I said.
"Wait, you're Mexican?" Gerard asked.
"From my mother side. She wanted me to do a quinceañera just like she did. And, since I'm the only girl, I said yes." I said.
"Oh. Okay. I forgot that you mention you visited your grandma in Mexico once." Gerard said.
"It's fine." I said. "Want to watch some T.V.?" I asked.
"Sure."
I turned on the T.V., it was on the news.
"There's going to be a snow storm this week. I'll have an eye on it..."
"Well, there goes us going to Skate City," Gerard said.
"But we can play in the snow!" I said.
"Well, if there is going to be a blizzard, can I have your number so I can call you?" Gerard asked.
"Sure." I gave him my number. "Here you go. I just hope we have food before the blizzard."
"Tell me about it."
Are you alive???
