Gerard’s POV
Finn was taking me out shopping which for me was a whole new scary experience.
I was sat in the sitting room waiting for Finn and I found a book what Don was reading and I picked the book up and frowned at it and then put it down because there was no point in my trying to even attempt to read it since I couldn’t read.
“You ready sweetie?” Finn asked which made me jump as I looked at her and nodded which made Finn smile.
“Come on then, now you can really get to dress how you dress.” Finn said and I smiled as I followed her to the car and we went to the shops.
“All the guy clothes are here, get whatever you want and I’ll just be over there.” Finn said as she went to walk off but I quickly caught hold of her hand which made Finn look at me with a worried look on her face.
“Don’t leave me please.” I said quickly and Finn smiled at me as she stood next to me and rested a hand on my arm.
“It’s okay, I’ll be right here.” Finn said softly as we went looking for some clothes.
I found a beanie which I really liked so I picked it up and straight away liked the feeling of it so it went in the basket which Finn was holding for me.
After a while I had finished finding what I liked and I went over to Finn who was looking at something and I tapped her shoulder which made Finn smile as she looked at me.
“You finished?” Finn asked and I nodded which Finn really smiled at and she looked in the basket.
“Do you want a coat? Because it gets pretty wet and cold here in the winter.” Finn said and I looked at her confused which made her chuckle.
“Don’t worry, me and Don will get you a coat.” Finn said and I nodded and we went to pay for the clothes.
After getting some clothes we went to get something to eat since neither of us didn’t have breakfast.
We got to this fast food shop and I followed Finn inside and we stood by this board thing and I was completely thrown off by it.
“What do you want?” Finn asked and I looked at her because I have never been to a fast food restaurant.
“I don’t know.” I whispered and you could see the sorry look on Finn face when she realised what I was talking about.
“It’s okay sweetie, here Arya always goes for the chicken nuggets and then you can choose your drink if you want.” Finn said and I nodded.
I chose y drink and watched Finn order her food and we grabbed our table number and found a table to sit at.
I felt uneasy as the restaurant was getting busy and I didn’t cope well with that so I looked through the bag and found my hat and took the labels off it and I put it on hoping this may keep me grounded.
Finn noticed and she smiled softly at me which I returned as I messed with the Pom Pom thing on the top of the hat.
I admit I was getting some strange looks since it was summer and I had a hoodie, jeans and a hat on.
The person who gave us our food gave me this strange look which Finn noticed.
“Hey, stop staring at my boy.” Finn said seriously and the person looked at Finn and they walked off and I looked at Finn and smiled at her which she returned.
“Got your back sweetie.” Finn said which made me look down at my food and smiled as I slowly at my food while Finn was sat on her phone looking at something.
After we did a bit more shopping we went home for when Frank and Arya came home from school.
I was sat on the sofa messing with the sleeve of my hoodie since I was really hot but I didn’t feel brave enough to take my hoodie off.
“Take that bloody hoodie off will you, I’m just cooking looking at you sat in it.” Frank said as he walked into the sitting room and sat in this strange chair which was handing from the ceiling with his laptop as he turned the tv on and put some music on the tv.
“Ignore him, he’s in a grump because he got an after school tomorrow.” Arya said as she walked into the sitting room and you could tell she was just in here to annoy Frank and I quickly got out the room before something happened.
I admit I was bored now and my sketch book was full so I got that and went downstairs and found Don in his office.
I just walked in and tapped his shoulder which made him jump as he turned round.
“My book is full.” I said quietly and Don nodded as he took the book from me and looked through it and then he look back at me.
“Are all the drawings of the places and people who have had you?” Don asked and I nodded and I took the book from him and flicked through the pages and got to this picture and point to him.
“He was good, he taught me to draw and treated me like his kid. But then he died and I went back to him.” I said as I turned the page to the other man and Don looked at me and he smiled at me.
I turned the pages over and even in drawing this man scared me and Don noticed.
“Was this one a bad one?” Don asked and I nodded.
“This man was evil, he did the marks on my back.” I said quietly and Don shut the book and placed it on his desk.
“You did good Gee, I’ll take these to work and get people to look at them.” Don said and I nodded.
“Can I have a new book please?” I asked carefully as I looked down.
“Course you can. But can you wait until tomorrow? As nowhere is open now.” Don said and I nodded as I walked out his office and now I felt lost.
“Fuck off Arya!” I heard Frank shout loudly which made me sprint back into Dons office and hide under the desk which made Don look at me with a frown and then Frank and Arya shouting came to the hallway which made me put my hands up to my ears and I shut my eyes.
I felt a hand on my knee which made me move more into the corner I was in and I started to cry.
“Get off me, don’t hurt me please!” I sobbed as I opened my eyes.
“It’s okay Gee, I’m not going to hurt you.” A voice said but it wasn’t enough to make how I was feeling okay.
“Get off me!” I shouted and the hand moved off my knee.
“I haven’t done anything wrong, please don’t hurt me.” I sobbed as I hugged my knees and the person walked out the room and a new set of footsteps walked into the room which made me move even more into the small space.
“Gee, come on sweetie you can’t get anymore into that space.” A female voice said and I shook my head.
“Don’t hurt me, please I don’t want to go down there.” I said as I sniffed.
“Nobody is going to hurt you now sweetie.” The voice said softly and I shook my head and refused to look at the person.
“Was it Frank and Arya shouting?” The voice asked and I nodded as I have been brought up to fear people shouting as it was always a bad sign and I was always going to get hurt when shouting happened.
“It’s okay sweetie, they shout at each other all the time because that’s what siblings do best.” The voice said and I looked at them and saw Finn.
“I’ve got your hat for you. You can stay here until you come back to your senses okay. If you want me then I’ll be in the kitchen sorting dinner out when your ready to come out.” Finn said and I nodded as I watched Finn walk out the room and she went upstairs where I guess she was going to talk to Frank and Arya.
I don’t know how long I was in the office for but I braved it and got out of my hiding space and walked out of the room and headed to the kitchen where Finn and Don was both cooking and talking about me.
“I’m just concerned that there has been no progress with him.” Don said and Finn sighed quietly.
“What do you expect Don? The boy was been in hell all his life and he know nothing better than living in fear. I think he is getting there but it’s going to be a really slow progress with him. It’s not going to be like when Frank’s depression and after a few therapy sessions he’s going to be fine. Gee has more complex problems.” Finn said and Don sighed loudly.
“Gee is getting there, I mean a month ago we wouldn’t be able to take him out of the house. Today me and him went shopping today and got him clothes. He may not speak much to us or in therapy but he does take on board on how to use the coping mechanisms he needs to keep him ground.” Finn said.
“I just thought he would be at least talking to us by now.” Don said which made me look down slightly.
“He does talk to Frank, but again it is going to take time. I’m guessing Gee was a shy boy when he was little and then he had all the awful stuff happen to him of course he is going to be hiding in his shell for a long time. He isn’t like Frank and Arya where you can take them out and do whatever those two want to do because they had a normal childhood and they are happy kids. Gee has had none of that and you are not going to give up on him Don.” Finn said.
“I’m not going to give up on him Finn, Christ he is like another child to us and I love him like he is our child. I guess we have a small break through today as he came into my office and gave me his sketchbook which has detailed pictures of the people. He even showed me one of the good guys and this man who just looked evil.” Don said.
“See he is getting there, we just have to give him time. Give him time and he will be back to himself. But he just has to rediscover himself and make himself a person.” Finn said and I thought about everything as I walked away and went to my room.
I was sat in my room in my window in just my T-shirt because I couldn’t wear my hoodie any longer and I was looking at my scars when someone knocked on my door which made me put my arms under the hoodie and I look at the person and saw Frank standing by the door.
“Dinner is ready.” Frank said and I nodded as I looked down and I move to put my hoodie on when Frank stopped me by speaking.
“You don’t have to put that on, we aren’t going to say anything or judge.” Frank said and I looked at him and shook my head as I put the hoodie on and walked over the door and looked at Frank who had this look on his face I didn’t like and I quickly moved back into my room and looked at Frank in fear.
“Go away.” I said clearly and Frank frowned at me.
“Gee I’m not going to hurt you.” Frank said as he walked into my room.
“Go away! Get out of my room!” I shouted as I proper lost it and trashed my room.
“Gerard I’m not going to hurt you, just stop this.” Frank said as he walked over and pretty much restrained me.
“Get off me!” I shouted as I moved around in his arms.
“Get of me! I haven’t done anything wrong! Get off me!” I screamed loudly as I kicked out and I must of kicked Frank in the balls as he grunted loudly and let me go and I ran fast out of my room and ran down the stairs and out the front door and I felt someone grab hold of my hand.
“No! Get off me I haven’t done anything wrong! Get off me!” I shouted and I felt myself being pulled into someone chest.
“Calm down Gee, it’s okay. Everything is going to be okay. Nobody is going to hurt you. You are free from them.” The person said softly as they held me close to them as I started to cry.
“I’m not having him on his own Don, he is really unstable at the moment and he’s only just gotten out of hospital after trying to kill himself.” Finn said as I felt the pair of them look at me.
“He has PRN right, just give him one of those and it’ll knock him out for the night.” Don said and Finn sighed loudly as she smacked his chest.
“Just because he has PRN doesn’t mean we are going to have a quiet night, I think tonight is going to be a hard night for Gee.” Finn said as she walked out the room and a couple of minutes later she came in and she sat next to me which made me jump as I looked at her.
“Have some medication, it may help you settle for the night and you can wash it down with a hot chocolate.” Finn said quietly.
I took the tablet and sallowed it and I took the hot chocolate and curled up on the sofa nursing the hot chocolate.
“I’ll stay with him tonight.” Don said and Finn nodded.
“I’ve got work early tomorrow so I might wake you up.” Finn said as she got up and walked over to Don and she kissed him as the front door opened and Frank walked in the sitting room.
“Where was you?” Finn asked as Frank walked to the kitchen.
“Getting laid.” Frank said bluntly as he walked out the room and went upstairs to his room and Don sighed.
“That boy is going to get himself into trouble one day.” Don said and Finn chuckled.
“At least we know he isn’t going to get a girl pregnant but he could get aids.” Finn said casually which made Don chuckle.
“Anyway, I’ll see you two in the morning.” Finn said as she walked out the room and Don went over to the other side of the sofa and put the recliner up and he got himself comfy as he put the tv on and he found something to watch and he didn’t stay awake for long before he fell asleep.
