Love As Fabulous As A Killjoy
It’s Not A Band, It’s An Idea
Saturday strolls around the corner finally, and Mikey is talking to Ray and Bob. When I told them about Frank coming over they drove straight over. They don’t get excited about people but once they heard how cool Frank sounded they wanted to meet him right away. I grab some soda from the fridge then ask Bob, Ray, or Mikey if they wanted any.
“Yes, sir,” Ray replied.
“Yup,” Bob said.
“Please?” Mikey asked nicely.
I hand them the sodas then I hear someone knock at the door and my Grandmother answers it.
“Hello there dear,” she says sweetly.
“Uh… Hello ma’am is Gerard here?”
“In the basement!” I yell from the staircase.
I hear Franks come down the stairs and I’m sitting at my desk, Bob and Ray are sprawled out on my bed, and Mikey is on the ground leaning against the bed.
“Hey Gerard and Mikey,” Frank waves with his free hand; in his other hand he has his guitar.
“Hey there Frankie,” I reply back as I get up to go put my arm around his shoulders, “I’m being rude.
That’s Ray, Ray Toro,” Ray waves, “And that’s Bob Bryar,” Bob also waves his hand.
“Sup, man,” Ray asks.
“Not much how ‘bout you?” Frank replies as if they are already friends. He places his stuff down and takes the seat I had just gotten up from. I shook my head and chuckled then I pulled out his guitar.
“You don’t mind, do you?”
“Nah, not at all.”
“Here hand it over.” Ray insists. I give him the guitar and he starts strumming it, “It has good sound.”
He hands it back to me, which then I hand it to Frank.
“You play guitar?” Frank asks.
“Yup. For almost 10 years now.”
“Cool. I guess I have a lot to learn from you then.” He smiles excitedly. Inviting Frank was the best idea I have ever had. I only met the guy a week ago and already we are like best friends.
“I play drums,” Bob says out of the blue. What did I just miss? Was I really just day dreaming about Frank? I have to pull myself together.
“Gerard?” Mikey says my name concerned, “What are you thinking about?”
“Huh? Oh nothing.”
“Come on, what’s going on in that big head of yours?” Ray says jokingly. My palms become sweaty, what the fuck this has never happened before. Everyone is staring; I don’t know what to say so this just blurts out.
“I THINK WE SHOULD START A BAND,” I basically yell and close my eyes. Once I open them everyone is staring at me, with awe.
“That,” Ray begins.
“Is,” Frank continues.
“Gen-“ Mikey begins to say.
“ius,” Bob finishes.
“Really?” I ask.
“Yes!” They all basically yell. Bob fell off the bed when he yelled it but stood up straight as a board as if nothing just happened.
“Now we just need a name,” I reply as I pace back and forth. For the next few hours we all scrabble to figure out a name and start to write songs. I’d say it was pretty awesome, we all lost track of time until my Grandma asked us what we wanted for dinner. We couldn’t decide so we just said we’ll order a pizza.
“Oh I have a name for our band!” Frank says with so much excitement I really couldn’t handle it.
“Yes?” I say lazily and very tired. Coffee is not helping me right now.
“What about the Bloody Five?”
“Nahhh too super heroy”
“Oh, okay.” He replies tired.
“You guys can stay over but fair warning. If Mikey and I aren’t here when you wake up it’s because we’ll be at work.”
“Where do you work?” Ray asks.
“Barnes and Noble,” Mikey speaks up.
“Okay well when we wake up we’ll meet you there and bring coffee.” Bob says half asleep.
“Sounds good to me,” I reply right before I pass out. My head was on Frank’s chest, who was already asleep on the bed. Mikey was next to me, Bob was on the floor hugging his jacket and Ray was in the comfy chair. We are going to be one kick ass band.
“Yes, sir,” Ray replied.
“Yup,” Bob said.
