Prologue
Alex's head jerked up, and Sage looked up at her Alpha nervously from her place on the carpet. the other Omegas - Tony, Mike, Jaime, Justin, Gabe, Jack, Nick and Jenna - looked up as well. Lisa, the pack's female Alpha, looked up at her mate. "What is it?" she whispered. Kellin and Jack exchanged a nervous look, and the four male Betas stood. Katelynne gave Copeland to Sage and she headed to the attic, followed by Jenna. "There's another pack coming. We'll have to fight them," the leader of the Gaskarth pack said as the pup and the female Omegas disappeared into the safety of the attic.

Sage uncurled from around Copeland and listened carefully. "I think it's safe," she whispered to Jenna. The other female werewolf nodded and opened the ladder. They all flinched as it hit the floor with a loud crash. Jenna put Copeland onto her back and went down the ladder. Sage grabbed a pair of backpacks, which were already filled with supplies, and followed them. She slung one onto her shoulders and gave Jenna the other. backpack. Copeland reached for her hand and she gave it to the little Alpha pup. They went outside and were greeted by carnage. Alex and Lisa were reaching for each other, and the five Betas - Kellin, Katelynne, Jack, Rian and Zack, had gone down together. "Mama! Daddy!" Copeland screamed when she saw the bodies of her parents. Sage quickly picked the little girl up. "What do we have here? A pup and some Omegas who decided to hide instead of fighting like the rest of their pack?" Sage heard a voice purr. She spun around. "Alpha Urie," she said, bowing her head in false respect. The Gaskarth pack had been allied with the Way pack. She had no reason to respect the male. Sage set Copeland down gently and ran, pulling the little girl along with her. "After them," she heard Urie bark. She released Copeland's hand, knowing that not even Urie would kill a pup. Copeland would become a slave and an Omega, but she wouldn't die.
