Chapter 9

It was the following day, when the sky was still a dull grey colour hanging over the earth and the sun was shielded from view, that Gerard and Ray walked to school again through the park. Mikey set off later to walk with his friend Pete, so just the two of them walked together. Ray seemed just as happy as usual, it wasn't that he was constantly happy just that most of the time he seemed positive and wore a smile on his face.

"I made a new friend Ray..." Gerard said quietly, looking around them just to check that Frank was nowhere nearby.
"Cool..." Ray smiled, "who is it?" He ran a hand through his hair and looked up to the bleak sky as rain started to fall from above.
"Umm..." Gerard stumbled over his words, unsure on whether he should tell Ray about Frank, he decided not to "um...he's called Pete."
"Mikey's Pete?"
"Yeah..." Gerard nodded, nervously.
"Cool. You were already kinda friends before though I guess..." Ray shrugged.
"Yeah I guess so..." Gerard sighed, "listen I'm sorry about yesterday walking home with you know? With what happened."
"Yeah." Ray's voice turned as cold and icy as the air, "you really scared me there."
"Sorry. But...are you sure you didn't see a person? A figure—"
"I'm sure." Ray nodded as his gaze turned towards the ground once more.

The two walked in silence for a few minutes before it was broken by Gerard and they ended up chatting quietly as usual with Ray introducing Gerard to a few new songs and bands on the way to school.

They reached school earlier than usual and headed through the almost empty corridors until they reached their form room. The lights were completely switched off, the door slightly open and the furthest window cast open allowing the ice filled air to sweep in and infect the room. Gerard glanced at Ray, raising an eyebrow slightly before Ray pushed the door open gently and walked cautiously into the room whilst Gerard followed.

"Ray..." Gerard's voice faltered as he turned to face the back wall of the classroom.
"What?" Ray asked, turning around to face Gerard.
"Look."

On the once white wall in front of them, red writing was scrawled across the surface.

"Is it? Is it—" Ray stuttered, stepping backwards.
"Yeah Ray." Gerard shuddered, "it's written in blood."
Gee headed over to the back of the room, closing the window and watching the crimson red blood drip down onto the carpeted floor.
"If you're reading this then she's already dead" Gerard read as he traced over the letters on the wall. "Ray what do you think i—"

A girl burst through the door and fell into the room. She glanced at the wall and then back and forth between Ray and Gerard in fear before managing to speak.
"It's Anna!" She cried, walking towards the two of them as she moved her shoulder length pink hair from her eyes. The girl grabbed hold of Gerard shoulders and he saw the tears form in her eyes before they ran down and dripped onto the floor. "She's dead..."

With that she took Gerard's hand and dragged him out of the classroom with Ray following close behind. The girl ran and half dragged Gerard along the empty corridors until they reached the main hall and stumbled through the doors. In the centre of the brightly lit hall a body lay strewn across the wooden floor, a pale arm cast aside; limp and lifeless. The girl was from Gerard's class, Anna, her long reddish brown hair spread itself across the floor and swam in its own pool of blood. Her once chocolate brown eyes were missing and her cheeks were hollow and grey.

"I-I..." The girl with the pink hair stated, "I got dropped off early this morning and I was going to the library when I walked past a-and saw her." She stumbled over her words and tears streamed down her face, "s-she was still breathing when I-I got here b-but she's..."
"It's okay hun...It's okay..." A stunned Ray comforted her, "what's your name?"
"Alex. I'm Anna's friend."
"Okay Alex..." Ray's voice turned soft and comforting despite the situation as he rested his hand lightly on her shoulder, "does anybody else know?"
Alex shook her head.
"Okay. We're going to go and find someone and tell them. Okay?"
Alex nodded, turning away from the body.
"Aren't we Gee?" Ray called to Gerard who stood silently staring at the body.
"It's the same people who killed the other boy. The same people who are after Frank..." He whispered to himself.
"Gee!" Ray called again, "we need to leave."
"Yeah...um, okay." Gerard stuttered as he snapped out of his trance.

Ray guided Alex carefully from the scene as Gerard followed behind them. Ray sighed with relief as they left the hall though he knew that he'd probably never rid the blooded image from his mind. They headed back the way they came and through the open door of their form room they saw their same teacher with the long ginger hair who stood staring at the same wall.

"Miss! It's Anna!" Alex cried as they entered the room. But the teacher stood with her icy blue eyes fixed to the wall where a new message in blood ink had been written beneath the other. It simply read:

Keep your eyes peeled...
