I Need You To Know I'm Alright
Interlude
I wake to the sound of my alarm clock, immediately reaching to turn it off. After I fail and roll off the bed, I get up and turn the most fucking annoying noise off by smacking the alarm clock.
I pick some ripped, grey jeans up off of my black carpet and throw them on over my Batman underwear. What? Batman is cool, nothing wrong with it. I eventually find a shirt that was also on the floor and put it on.
Looking in the mirror I am pleased at the Misfits shirt I found on my floor. Then, I look a little more upwards to see my face. The bags under my eyes have gotten worse, probably from my lack of sleep.
I look at the mirror a last time and attempting to fix my hair before walking out of my bedroom into the hallway.
Exiting the hallway, I see Ray is sitting on the couch, drinking coffee while watching the news.
He sees me and says, "Good morning." completed with a small smile.
"Hello, got anymore?" I say pointing my finger towards his coffee mug filled with the delicious, energizing drink called coffee.
"There's more in the maker."
Ray nods his head towards the kitchen and I walk across the living room into the kitchen.
After pouring myself a cup, I go back into the living room and sit next to Ray on the couch.
We sit just watching the TV for a minute until he says "Today's your first day working at that Cafe, isn't it?"
I reply with a, 'Mhm' because, it was true, I was finally getting a job. I hesitated to get one for so long. I don't even know why I didn't get one sooner and save up the money. Since Ray and I got this apartment it really could've helped.
I was walking one day and saw a hiring sign on the Cafe and thought, 'Well why the fuck not.' So I applied and got the job, which I wasn't expecting that.
"What do you have going on today?"
Ray looks a bit confused before saying, "I, was going to stay here. Maybe try to find a job."
I chuckle at his lack of anything to do and he gives me a 'hey you do the same thing' look that made me giggle more.
I then get up and set my empty red Santa mug in the sink, I have no idea where it came from, it's not even even near Christmas.
Heading towards the door. Before exiting the apartment, I wave goodbye to Ray and grab my jacket.
I walk out the building and start walking up the street, jamming headphones in my ears instantly before turning on this three hour playlist I made at like 4 a.m one time.
Ray and I went to the same school for years. He was the only one to talk to me, and vice versa. We learned guitar together in middle school after I attempted to play the drums. Ray's brother showed Ray the guitar, then he told me about it.
After getting out of school we decided to get a place together, which is where we are at now. Since we were on a low budget I was trying to find a job, which I gave up on soon after. Ray didn't even start looking until I got the call for this one.
The job I have to do at he Cafe is waiting, which I wasn't so happy with. It pays well though, maybe people will look right past my awkwardness. After giving myself a mental and physical eye roll, i finally walk into the Cafe.
