Sometimes, They Aren't Always Bad.

Oh, Sweet Romeo

Ray and I spent most of the night talking about Gerard and what happened at his house. I left out the part about my mental breakdown but Ray didn't seem to notice the big time skip.

"So what are you guys boyfriend's now?" Ray asked before putting a mouthful of spaghetti into his mouth.

"What? No!" I said standing straight up from leaning on the counter. My fork dropped at the straight forwardness of my best friend. Heat danced across my face at the thought of dating Gerard.

"Then why are you blushing?" He asked pointing to my face with his sauce covered fork.

"It's just... whatever. We're not dating." I said picking my fork back up. The spaghetti was almost gone but that was on because Ray had eaten most of it.

"You totally want to date him!" Ray exclaimed excitedly. His high pitched voice filled the house and I immediately told him to "shh"

"Well, he is pretty nice." I finally admitted, not sure what harm it could do.

"So he's one of the nice one's huh. I mean you can't find vampires around like that anymore." Ray was quite enthusiastic about Gerard being a vampire. It was pretty weird and he wasn't okay with it at first but once I explained what happened and how he saved me from Bert he was totally on board.

"Yeah. His family's amazing too. They don't drink blood often and they only do it as a treat and they steal from blood banks. Gerard said at first it was hard to walk around and smell all the blood but he's been without it for so long that it doesn't even bother him anymore!" I explained with excitement.

"Wow! I haven't heard of a family that did that in our time. Only back in the day with my grandparents. Vampires were super chill back then. Maybe they are trying to stick with their natural roots." Ray suggested taking the last bit of spaghetti.

Ray had some of the most interesting facts bout vampires just because he was a huge book worm. He always spent his spare time in the library looking at vampire history books or fiction. He really enjoyed the vampires back then but now they've all become so hungry that they can't control themselves anymore.

I remember Ray had told me about the old times where a vampire would get their own ration and that's what they had for a week. They showed pictures in the big and the tubs we're pretty big. He told me some vampires even held out for a month. But then it became too much for people to donate so much blood that they had to stop the big rationing and had to downsize. Vampires grew hungrier and hungrier until they lashed out and became predators.

"Yeah! Ha, they thought I was a fertile. Can you believe it?!" I asked putting the container in the sink so I could wash it out later.

"Yeah, I could." Ray said leaning back in his chair, satisfied with his full belly.

"Really?" I asked rounding the counter to take the seat right next to him.

"Yeah. Fertiles are always weak and fragile. They also look more feminine than the Dom's. I mean there's not a lot of male Fertiles but when there is they're super rare and if you find one it's always good to keep them." Ray explained nodding to himself as he got all the facts correct.

"So you're saying I look like a girl?" I asked slowly, trying to process all the information.

"Yeah, but in a good way, you know?" He explained fumbling over his words. Ray was always afraid to offend somebody so when he thought he offended me he got a bit nervous.

"I mean yeah, I guess." I said shrugging my shoulders with a smile on my face.

"Alright well we have school tomorrow so we should hit the hay. Don't want to be late on the second day of school." Ray said getting out of his seat to stretch. "I'll wake you up at 6." He said turning to go up the stairs.

"Actually Gerard's picking me up." I said tentatively with a blush steadily creeping on to my face.

"Really? What time?" He asked halting by the stairs at my news.

"I have to text him and find out." I said getting up from the stool to wash my dish.

"Alright just be safe and don't be late for school." He said turning to walk up the stairs again.

"Yes mom." I said back, ending our conversation. Ray's footsteps finally faded and I was left with my thoughts.

Maybe Gerard had saved me because he thought I was a fertile and then became stuck with me and he doesn't really have interest.

Maybe he's actually going to eat me one day. I could be his family's special treat and they'll store by blood in containers and save me for the holidays!

Nah! I'm just being stupid!

The container was all washed it and dried, sitting on the counter all clean and shiny for Gerard's mother. Gerard and I had finished all my homework so all that was left to do was text him and ask him what times he's picking me up.

II was okay with texting. You didn't have to talk or look at anybody in person and you could say what ever you wanted without getting to the person's reaction, you only got to see their words.

I pulled the drawing out of my bag and stared at the tiny number sprawled in the corner. His handwriting was very beautiful. It was in all caps but it was small and calming as I read over the number.

My phone was out and in my hand before I made the conscious decision to actually grow a pair and text him. The nerve racking part about texting first is seeing whether the person will text back or not.

"Hey."

It was simple enough that he wouldn't get overwhelmed with all my questions and eagerness but it wasn't enough to show him it was me

"I'm guessing this is Frankie (aka the best person in the world)
Sent at 12:07 am

He actually texted back which was a huge surprise to me at first but it's Gerard I was talking to. Of course he wouldn't leave me hanging. If he had I could've been raped, dead or both.

"Well at least you're right about the Frankie part."
Sent at 12:07 am

"Since you doubt that is now your name in my phone. And it will forever be there.
Sent at 12:08 am

I smiled at his text. If you looked at me you'd think I'm weird, standing in the middle of the kitchen staring down at my phone smiling like a mad man.

"Alright alright you win!"
Sent at 12:09 am

"I knew I could win you over."
Sent at 12:10 am

"So where will you be taking me tomorrow, oh Romeo?"
Sent at 12:10 am

I smiled at my own cheekiness while making my way to my room. I knocked into the railing a couple times while looking down at my phone.

"I was hoping we could done on some fresh pancakes with delectable syrup at IHop. Is that suitable oh sweet Juliet?" Sent at 12:11 am

I laughed quietly because he was actually playing along. My cheeks began to hurt from smiling so much in only one day. I could count on two hands how many times he alone had made me smile today. Maybe even three hands, if I had the extra.

"Sounds exquisite. I shall see you tomorrow my fair Romeo." Sent at 12:11 am

"You shall sweet Juliet. Your chariot shall arrive at the hour of 5. And with that I bid you goodnight."
Sent at 12:12 am

"And I to you as well. See you in the morning Gerard."
Sent at 12:13 am

It was a short conversation but it packed the happiness of an hour's worth. He didn't text back that night and I suppose that was okay cause I fell asleep as soon as I hooked my phone to it's charger. My dreams were surrounded with images of Gerard and me, happy together. But towards the end it turned sour and I forced myself awake only to fall back into the abyss of my dreams.
