Hidden in the dark

Frank's POV:

My Gee. My beautiful boyfriend. I'm so happy I get to call him that. Too bad I can't show my love for him publicly. Just being his boyfriend for a few days is such a delight.

I have history class now so I have to go into the light. I stay behind for a second with Gee because I know I'll get to history quickly.

"Hey baby. Go to your next class. I'll see you at lunch sugar." He says and kisses my forehead. I hum and give him a hug. It feels so good just being around him. My love.

"Okay baby. I'll be back at lunch. I love you!" I say and walk out the door. I hear a feint 'I love you too' in my head. I know he's sending me a message and it's adorable.

I walk up to my history class with my sunglasses on. I can't bear the light. It's too painful. I take my seat and pull out my workbook. The teacher starts teaching and it's all the same old stuff. When we start doing in class work she walks up to me.

"M-mr. I-Iero sir. P-please t-take your s-sunglasses o-off." She says with a shaky voice and keeps a fair distance from me.

"I would miss but I've been getting really bad migraines from over exposure to light lately. It is something that only effects people with an extrely rare gene in their body. Somebody else in the school has it. They are more educated than I about all the technicalities. I could bring you to him at lunch if you'd like confirmation. Please just call me Frank. I don't like to be treated differently. Everyone thinks Mr. Way is so scary and horrible while he is just different. He isn't a bad guy. He's helped me through rough times." I say thinking about how amazing my beautiful Gee is. She nods her head and walks off. I smile. Maybe I'll be treated fairly regularly here.

Class ends and lunch comes. I have to bring my history teacher to Gee now. I lead her to the basement and knock on Gee's door.

"Hey Frankie!" He says as he opens the door. I giggle and wave. I look back to my history teacher and she's staring at him terrified.

"Hey Mr. Way! This is miss V. She wanted to know more about our sensitivity to light." I tell him. He smiles and ruffles my hair.

"Sure thing Frankie and you know it's Gee out of class. I am helping out you and your mom. Anyways, what would you like to know about our light sensitivity? It's an easy topic for me seeing I've had it for the last 17 of my 21 years on earth." He says with a bit of a laugh. I giggle and sit down on one of the desks.

"Just wanted to know what a good lighting level would be for Frank. If he needs any medication? What could happen if his eyes get over exposed?" She asks. Gee smiles at me.

"This lighting level is perfered. It's much easier on the eyes. This level is still like a sunny days light to us. Put us in a pitch black room and our eyes will be at the most comfort. We will be able to see 'normally' then. It's such a rare condition that there is no reason other than an extremely rare type of gene we have. There are apparently only 5 people in the world with this problem. Doctors don't really have an explanation. The only medication is to stay out of the light. Over exposure can cause eyes to start to burn, intense migraines, things like that." Gee says to her. She looks concerned for the both of us. "Do you think it'd be easier to send me the lessons and I can show them to him down here? If he needs help my room is always open at lunch. Just knock. We're both probably here. We've been close for years. Not once have I let our relationship get infront of school though. That and it's not long until graduation." He says. Miss V. gives a light smile. I can tell she's still a little nervous.

"That would actually work perfectly. Thank you so much. I don't want a student being in pain in my class so that sounds like a great idea." She says and leaves. I smile at Gee and go and hug him. We share a quick kiss.

"I love you Gee." I say to him. I know we left the door open but nobody other than Ray comes here. He got sick though and left.

"I love you too my Frankie. I wish we we could just be a regular couple. I mean, they'd yell at us. A teacher and a student. They'd kick you out. I don't care what happens to me. I know our ages are legal but still. I love you so much. I wish you didn't have to go through all that bad stuff my love." He says to me. I sigh and place my head against his chest. I look towards the door and see miss V. Standing there. My eyes widen.

"G-gee. M-miss V." I say. He looks towards the door and holds me closer. She gives a slight scowl.

"A teacher and a student together?" She asks. I hold onto Gee and give a frail nod. "Who knows about you two?" She asks again. I feel Gee grasping me tightly just like I'm doing to him.

"M-my mum and Ray. My mom is okay with it and Ray was the first to know. I know he's a teacher but he's far much more than that to me. When he's teaching though he's just Mr. Way, my teacher. You don't know how much he's done for me. We started dating before I knew he was a teacher. Other than my mom he's all I got. I need him and I love him." I sob into Gee's shirt. He rubs my back and holds me close.

"His mother was happy when she saw us together. I've loved him for so long. He's all I got left other than my brother." Gee says. She lets out a sigh.

"I guess if your mother approves then I guess I can't take anything to anyone. You guys are perfect together anyways. See you both tomorrow." She says we both nod. He kisses me softly again as he closes and locks the door. Makinf sure nobody sees. I love my Gee.
