Do You Remember That Day When We Met You Told Me This Gets Harder? Well It Did
Riley's POV
Classes always seem to drag out when you have something to look forward to. I think I might be a little too excited that Gee agreed to have lunch with me. But I don't feel weird because he started smiling when I asked, so maybe he's just as excited as I am. I really hope so.
"Ok class, tonight your assignment is to write a poem about your most important memory. Must be at least three stanzas long.", Mr. Porter explained. I hate having to dig into my memory bank for shit, so I normally just make something up. If I was truthful in these assignments, I'd probably be referred to a therapist and talking about my problems is not something I'm good at doing. The bell rang and I was the first one out the door. I was walking as I felt someone loop their arm around mine.
Taylor looked up at me grinning, she couldn't have been more than five feet tall and her hair was a fiery red shade, but it fit her. She was too adorable for her own good. "What's up Tay?," I asked, grinning back at her.
"Well I figured since we both have Trig next, we could walk together and get to know each other more. I hate being the only girl in the group, you're my savior!", she giggled. I started to ask about Frank's girlfriend, but she beat me to it. "Jamia doesn't really count because she's never around. Her parents aren't too fond of us or her and Frankie's relationship so they pretty much lock her up after school. I'm surprised she's still sane." We both laugh and walk into trigonometry.
I noticed a dark haired girl in the back of my class eyeing me as I sat down. She wasn't there yesterday so I have no idea why I of all people caught her attention.
"Looks like Lindsey's outta ALC.", Taylor said as she sat next to me. I raised my eyebrow and she got the hint, "It's the Alternative Learning Center. That's where they send the really fucked up kids most of the time." I nodded and looked at the paper that was waiting on our desk. If that's the case, why did she seem like she already had something against me?
Trig seemed to speed by which was just what I needed because I had first lunch block, I said bye to Taylor and headed to my car where Gee was already waiting for me. I got closer to him and noticed something was off, he seem didn't himself. "Hey Gee, what's wrong?", he just shook his head and opened his arms for a hug that I happily returned, "Alright then, your car or mine?" I heard a beep and knew exactly what it meant. We got in his car and pulled off.
We finally got to Sushiya after a long, awkward car ride. I needed to find out was bugging him so I made him sit on the patio that way there were less people around. "I promise you there's nothing wrong, Ri. Why don't you believe me?", he said with a shy smirk. The fact that he had a nickname for me made me blush and I hope he didn't notice.
"Because you're not yourself. Even though we've only known each other for a day, I can tell something's bugging. It's sort of a specialty of mine.", I bragged and he laughed, "But in all seriousness, please tell me."
He sighed and looked me in the eyes. I never noticed gorgeous his eyes were. They were like a honey hazel color with specks of green. "This girl I dated for awhile is back at school. She hates me for leaving her and it's her life mission to my mine a living hell." I could see the genuine sadness in his eyes as he continued to tell me about her.
Our food finally came out so we dropped the conversation for a few minutes, I stabbed Gee in the knee with my chopstick when he tried to pick off my plate. There's a lot of things I don't share and food is one of my top five. After laughing to tears, I wiped my face and apologized, while warning him to never do it again. "So what's this girls name?", I picked up my glass to take a swig, but when he muttered out Lindsey I nearly choked.
"You alright?", he said sounding concerned as I cleaned myself up. I nodded and took another drink. I asked him to describe what she looked like and it was just what I thought. It's the same girl in my class. I told him about my encounter and asked how she knew about me. "She told me she saw you with us at the smoke deck this morning, I don't know how though. I can usually spot her a mile away.", he ran his hand through his long black hair, "I had a feeling this year was gonna be hell."
Yeah, and I just joined the festivities. Great.
