Constellations

The constellations that guide us

The concrete floor was frozen, carrying the coldness up Mikeys spine and it caused him to begin shaking violently as he sat cross legged with his head resting against the wall. Tears ran gently down his cheek and onto his shirt. He looked above him to see no speck of light creeping through the edge of the trap door and no light glinting anywhere, or even escaping through the floorboards. He only knew that Gerard sat next to him by listening carefully for his unsteady breathes, mutters and when the tears dropped onto the cool floor.

"I just want to see the stars Gee." Mikey whispered, looking up whilst trying to image bright twinkling dots on the underneath of the grey rotting floorboards.
"What are you on about Mikey?" Mumbled Gerard as he stared to his brother who was as broken as he was. Tears stained his face but he could not wipe them as his hands were still bound behind his back.
"I want to be able to see the stars. To see their light cast down on us and to see them glow in the sky." Continued Mikey smiling.
"Mikey. We're locked below the floor an-"
"Exactly. I want to see the stars. Like when Dad took us to the forest in the dead of night and we laid on our backs for hours and watched the stars swirl above us all night. And we watched them move effortlessly across the sky without a care in the world."
"But Mikes. That was then. This is now." He choked on his words as he cried into Mikey's shoulder.

"We still have hope though, don't we?" Asked Mikey a little unsure.
"Mikes...." Whispered Gerard.
"What?"
"What do we have left?"
"I have you...." whispered Mikey, "and the stars. We have the constellations that guide us."
"Is that going to be enough though. I mean, how do we get out of here for starters?"
"I don't know." Sobs racked through Mikey's body and he shook endlessly, his head bowing down towards the floor.
"I just want to get out of here!" Yelled Gerard, leaning his head against the wall and breathing deeply, "I'd rather die than stay with Nick much longer..."
"Don't say that Gee, it may be bad but we'll get out of this mess. I promise you that we'll see the stars again. We'll get out of here and be happy and we'll go to that same forest that dad took us to and we'll watch the constellations. I promise."

Notes

Hi, this is probably the most pathetic and short chapter that I've written so far, sorry, lets hope that the next chapter is better. Thank you for reading. :) x
