Art is Always Watching

Bulletproof Heart

Gerard stopped singing and asked, "Pardon me; what was that?"
My face flamed, and MIkey yelled, "Busted, Karma Queen, busted!"
I smiled the sweetest smile I could and said, "You're a showoff, Party Poison."
He replied, "And you aren't, Miss 'Revenge is sweet'?" I shrugged; he had a point there. We both started singing along, trying to outdo the other. Halfway through the song, Gerard almost crashed the car. Teenagers may scare me, but so does Gerard, especially when driving.
Mikey yelled, "Poison, keep your eyes on the road! I may be the kid brother, but at times like these, I feel older." I laughed and reached up between the seats to turn the music down a few notches.
Suddenly, on Route Guano, another killjoy car appeared behind us. Gerard and I locked eyes, communicating. I nodded back at him. It was best to assume there were dracs in the car following us. I reached into my boots and pulled my dual ray guns as Gerard unholstered his neon yellow ray gun. All five of us pulled down our masks to protect our real identities.
Gerard and I had matching masks, only differing in colors. Our mask colors matched our ray guns and outfits.
I slid open the sunroof and stood up in the seat. My upper body was outside of the Trans-Am. Gerard pulled over and to a stop; the other car doing the same. A little girl with huge hair jumped out and ran to our car as the other gunned it out of there. I caught a glimpse of Show Pony in the driver's seat as the car pulled away in a cloud of dust.
The old black mustang disappeared. Gerard got out of the car, ray gun raised. I also aimed my gun at the girl. You could never be too careful. Gerard enveloped the little girl in a hug. I smiled and thought, 'He is such a pushover.'
I got out of the Trans-Am along with everyone else. Gerard decided to make introductions once everyone was out. He spoke, pointing at each person in turn, "That's Kobra Kid, my kid brother. This is Fun Ghoul; where he goes, the fun is at." Gerard and Frank shared a wink at that as I rolled my eyes.
Gerard continued, "That there is Jet Star; he's a ray of sunshine. And last but not least is Karma Queen. She inspired the saying karma's a bi-"
I interrupted him and covered the little girl's ears, "Little ears, Poison. See what language she is comfortable with before cussing halfway to the moon and back." I uncovered her ears and knelt down to her level. I decided to finish Party's introductions by saying, "That redhead talker is Party Poison, one of the most wanted men in the zones and a pushover is you know how to handle him." Poison's flame of sassiness seemed to be put out by my introduction.
He pouted; then, he said, "You're just upset that I don't swing your way, Karma." we need to get going again. Folks, return to your seats, please."
The little girl sprinted back to the car. as she ran, I spotted something rectangular and metal under her hair. I knew it was some kind of medical supplier, almost every child had one since they refused to take the pills half of the time. The rest of us walked to the car and sat down.
The girl said, "Thanks for taking me in. If you hadn't, I don't know what would have happened to me." If I was anyone else, I would have been suspicious of her, but I had no right to be suspicious of anyone.
I said, "What's your call sign, little lady?" She seemed confused.
"Call sign," she asked.
I replied, "Your call sign is your killjoy name. It's so we know what to call you." She thought for a moment.
She exclaimed, "Call me Gem Sunset!" In that moment, we all felt invincible, but everything was about to change.
