One more bite won't hurt

*FINAL CHAPTER* (of the story anyway...)

Gerard ran his hands against the walls of the cell, the small amounts of blood that his fingertips produced sending him wild with joy and he let the small morsels touch his lips. With eyes wild and hungry for more Gerard took the knife from his pocket and dug it deep into his thigh. He screamed with pain as the stinging and numbness took over his body but as soon as a drop of blood appeared on the surface of his pale skin he drank it as if his life depended on it, well…his life did depend on it. With his eyes and stomach pleading for more he brought the knife back down onto his leg, and with his eyes squinched up tightly he hacked through his own leg until blood spewed out in a huge puddle around him.

Frank threw open the cell door and raced into the room, diving down to sit next to him. He applied pressure to the wound immediately and soaked his skin with the red blood flooding across the floor and soaking into every corner.
"Gerard!" Frank yelled as he picked his head up off from the floor and held it gently in his hands.
"Frank?" Gerard mumbled weakly, peering up through partially closed eyes.
"Yeah…" Frank answered, calming his voice down. His shirt was splashed with blood and he glanced to the figure that lay strewn out in front of him.
"Why are you still here Frank?" he mumbled as he closed his eyes and tilted his head to one side.
"Why would I not be here Gerard?"
"Um. Because it's me so why don't you just leave me like how I deserve to be?" his voice quietened and he gritted his teeth as more blood poured from his wounds.
"Gerard. I'm not going to leave you…not like this anyway…"
"But I'm a monster. You should leave me…"
"Gerard…" Frank muttered, "You may be a monster but I'm not and despite everything I'm not going to leave you."
"Really?" mumbled Gerard even weaker now.
"Really." Frank reassured, "But for the families Gerard, you can die a better person. They just want to know. Did you kill Kaitlin?"
Gerard nodded.
"And Andy Mathews?"
He nodded again.
"And where there others?"
He nodded, "I'm sorry…"

Gerard's hands began to tremble as the pool of blood around him grew, with the blood soaking to his equally red hair. Sweat began to gleam on his forehead and he outstretched his arm upwards so that he could touch Frank's face and his soft hair.
"Thank you …" he whispered softly.
"It's okay."
"Hey…." Gerard whimpered as his voice croaked along in an odd fashion, "would you sing me a song?"
"Bit of a cheesy way to go Gerard, if you ask me?"
"Please…"
"Yeah…okay…" Frank said.

He racked his brain for a song but of course when he desperately needed one the lyrics all seemed to muddle together into one huge lyrical mess. Without even realising it his lips began to move and a soft voice escaped them as he stroked his hands through Gerard's hair and tried to stop his hands from shaking.
"I never walked on the moon…" frank began, Gerard smiled gently at the remark.
"I never saw the pyramids. I was never struck by famine or fortune."
Frank took his hands in his as Gerard's breaths began to slow down, now barely a whisper in the room. "Be strong and hold my hand…" he sung gently like an angel, "Time. It comes for us, you'll understand. We'll say goodbye today and I-" Frank cut off as Gerard's body fell limp in his arms, "and I'm sorry how it ends this way…."

He cried, he didn’t know why but he leant over Gerard's body and buried his head into his blood-soaked jacket, ignoring the tears and sobs that racked his core. It was over. Everything. Gone and that was it. He heard footsteps outside and listened as the noise stopped as the familiar figure stood at the door peering down at him.

"Hey Frank…" Al rushed forwards towards him and pulled him from Gerard's body, turning him to face him and to look deep into his sad eyes. "
Frank it's me… Al…" he whispered as he pulled a trembling Frank into a comforting hug. He whispered into Frank's ear as he did his best to calm him down and slowly but surely Frank collapsed into his arms gently.
"I think we should go Frankie…" Al spoke softly.
Frank simply nodded and took one last glance at Gerard. His mangled corpse surrounded in blood with the look of pure pain etched into his face, his clothes ragged and soaked through but still he slept for ever; just like all of the others.

Al supported Frank as they stumbled out of the room past an arriving group of police officers who crowded around the body.

"It's done Frank. It's over. He's gone. Joel's gone. But you caught him Frank and I'm proud of you….."
Frank stared blankly at Al and turned around.
"I'll be back soon Al.." he muttered before turning around and walking off into the distance.

He dragged his feet along the floor, disappearing gently into the distance. He walked through the town, watching all the living mill around the place and chat to each other as if nothing had happened. The sun was shining down on Frank but as he reached the bridge it became hidden behind a huge grey looming cloud. Frank peered over the edge to the swirling depths of the river below him, they seemed to entice him forwards as he stepped over to the other side of the barrier, his feet balancing precariously on the edge of the bridge. He felt the wind waft through his hair and the rain began to pour onto his soft flesh. It beat down on him as he took one final breath and fell gently forwards towards the earth.

A hand gripped around his wrist and held tightly onto him as if their life depended on it.
"I'm not letting you do this…" the voice whispered, "Don't leave me alone like this…."
