In The Heat Of a Moment Kinda Thing

Chapter 16
Franks p.o.v

I’d expected that he’d wake up the next morning and tell me he didn't think it through, that it was in the heat of the moment and he didn't really want to get married.

But to my utter relief, he somehow didn't do that. Quite the opposite actually.

He was making eggs bacon, and vegetarian bacon for the three of us, when it was brought up again.

“When are we getting our tuxes? Are we going to a vegas chapel, or something?” He asked, flipping the bacon. I practically choked on my bacon.

“You...still want to get married?” I asked, disbelief evident on my face. He raised his eyebrow and pulled his face into a ‘duh’ kinda look.

“Um, yeah, Frank. I’m always going to want you, and vise versa, so why the hell not?” He asks, continuing to cook. A smile snaked its way onto my face, taking over the shocked expression.

“Whose changing their last name?” I asked, trying not to get too giddy.

“Frank Way? Gerard Iero?” He said out loud, frowning to himself. “I think I will. Frank Way sounds ridiculous.” He said casually, shrugging. I laughed, nodding.

“We should go out to get rings today.” I announce, watching as he put all of our food onto plates. He smiled faintly, grabbing mine and Cherry’s plate and setting them in front of us, before getting his own.

“Thanks my love.” I say, setting my hand over his from across the table. He smiled and nodded, pecking Cherry on her head. Cherry smiled up at him, before digging into her food.

“We’ll have to tell Mikey.” He says thoughtfully, looking down at his plate.

“He’ll be pleased, I think. He’s always supported us.” I respond dismissively. He nods, continuing to eat.

Were quiet after that, but it's always a reassuring thing. We don't need words. We just know.

It wasn't until after we bought our engagement rings, which were quite expensive I might add, I had the bright idea we should tell Mikey, Ray, and Bob over a fancy dinner. After all, this was something to celebrate, right?

After I told Gerard, he called Mikey and told him to meet us at the Cheesecake factory at 6.
So, at around five forty five, Cherry was dressed in a velvet dress type thing, Gerard was in a white dress shirt and pants, and I was in the same attire except my shirt was black.

We looked like a bomb ass family.

Gerard was giddier then he had been earlier, not that he was enthusiastic when I introduced the idea. Nonetheless, I had to drive because he couldn't sit still.

When we arrived, they were out front, looking almost as good as us.

Almost.

I noticed Gerard’s nervous face and reached over, setting my hand on his thigh.

“He’s gonna support us. We’ll be fine.” I whisper, smiling as I peck his lips. He smiles and calms himself, before slipping out of his seat and out of the car.

Before I can even get out, Gerard has Cherry by his side, hand in hand. They were adorable, I just wanted to squeeze the hell out of them. I don't though. Instead, I take Cherry’s other hand and we walk the short distance to where Ray and Mikey stand, greeting them with hugs.

Cherry practically jumps into MIkey’s arms, shouting his name gleefully. We begin to walk inside, telling the lady we had a reservation, before being seated with a high chair.
I was unbelievably nervous. I could tell Gerard was even more nervous, so I forced myself to choke it down. I held his hand tightly in mine as we sat down, making him shoot me a grateful smile.

“So, I got us a couple more gigs.” Mikey announces, smiling at us. We only practiced on Sundays and Saturdays, and most gigs were on Friday and Saturday nights.
“Oh, that's good. We haven't played any where in two weeks.” Gerard says, smiling back at Mikey.

“Where are they?” I ask, looking over to Mikey.

“Friday night is a local bar, nothing big, but they’ll be a couple of other bands playing. Saturday night is at a small music festival, so don't expect a lot of people.” Mikey says, shrugging a little. I nod and smile, watching as our waiter comes over.

“Hi! My name’s Daniel, I’ll be your waiter for tonight. Can I get you something to drink?” He asks, smiling kindly at us. After I order, I’m watching Gerard watch him. Or, rather, check him out. It's quite amusing for a second, until I realise this guy is ten times hotter than me. After he leaves, I’m tempted to pretend to be checking hi out to, but only when Gerard looks at me. I don't though.

“What do you think, am I as hot as him?” I ask snarkily, raising an eyebrow. He sends me a weird look before gripping my hand tightly.

“I think you're twenty times hotter. I wasn't checking him out, Frank, I knew him from rehab. I don't think he recognized me.” He explains, making me blush. I felt kinda dumb.

“Oh, uh, sorry.” I say quietly, ducking my head as the heat of my blush spread down my neck.

“Don't be. You're cute when you're jealous.” He responds, kissing my temple. We quiet down for a minute, listening as Mikey, Cherry, and Ray talk. Cherry had gotten used to calling Ray ‘uncle fro fro’, so every time she needed his attention, that's what she referred to him as. It was actually quite adorable.

The waiter brought back our drinks, before disappearing again.

Gerard leaned over, his face twisted with nervousness.

“Should we just tell them now?” He whispered to me. I thought about it for a second, debating if we should just do it after dinner, but eventually just nod my head.

Gerard takes a deep breath, before picking up his wine glass and gently tapping it with his butter knife, cause a melodic sound to fill the air, making Mikey’s, Ray’s, and Cherry’s conversation to stop.

“Uh, me and Frank have an announcement.” He says nervously, wiping his hands on his pants. He reached into his pocket, before pulling out our engagement rings. He hands my ring over to me, before slipping his on. I do the same, before intertwining our fingers again.

“Were engaged.” He says loudly, making Ray’s jaw drop. Mikey sits still, his expression blank, before a grin spreads across his face.

“Really? Tell me you're not joking,” Ray says, smiling widely. I shake my head, making him laugh mechanically.

“When? We need to plan a wedding! This is so fantastic - not that I didn't know it was gonna happen soon, but congratulations!” Mikey says, grinning.

“Who proposed?” Ray asks, still smiling from ear to ear.

Well, I guess I did. It wasn't…very traditional, if you will.” I say, smiling at the memory. I had called him a bastard, and demanded he married me, so no, it was not in the least tradition.
Mikey raised an eyebrow, silently asking what I meant.

“Story for another time. Preferably when there aren't virgin ears around.” Gerard responds, not so subtly motioning to Cherry. She just smiles and bobs her head, making her red curls bounce. She was rather quiet lately. It was slightly concerning.

I took a minute to servy Ray and Mikey. They were leaning into each other rather closely, their hands linked. It made me wonder when they’d get married. I mean, they’d been together for four or five years, and it seemed pretty rational to me.

“When are you two getting married?” I questioned, rubbing small circles onto Gerard’s hand subconsciously.

“We - we already are. Legally, I mean.” Ray said, blushing a little.

“What? When did that happen?” I spluttered, looking between the two of them.
“Well, we were in Vegas for Ray’s birthday, and got drunk, and got legally binded. We don't count it as real marriage though. Were eventually going to get married for real, but not anytime soon.” Mikey explains, smiling lovingly at Ray. I nod. What the fuck? Why am I just learning about this?

“Frank, were way more erotic than other couples. They’re more mainstream, and were - were kind of a bipolar couple, if you will.” Gerard tells me, shrugging.

He was right. We were together for about six months before, stopped seeing each other for four years, got together for a month, and got engaged? What kind of couple were we?

The thought made me laugh. Gerard smiled at me, shooting me a questioning look. I just shake my head, continuing to servy everyone.

The rest of the night passed in a blur, which I remembered vaguely that it consisted of lots of champagne and smiles, and overall it was just a remembered event. When we finally did get home, Cherry was asleep and me and Gerard were extremely tired.

I grabbed Cherry from her car seat and took her upstairs, ridding her of her shoes and headband, before returning to my own bedroom. The lights were off, and I could barely make out the shape of Gerard in the bed. I began to strip, starting with my shoes, throwing every article of clothing randomly around the room.

When I made it to the bed, I’m pulled to a warm chest, and I call immediately make out the musky scent of Gerard.

“I love you,” He whispers, his voice sleepy.

“I love you to, honey.” I say, slipping my hands over his skin. He shivers as a result and scoots closer, kissing the top of my head.

“We should have another kid.” He says suddenly, making me gape at him.

“Really? Like, for real?” I ask, making my arms tighten around his waist.

“Yeah. I’ve always wanted a big family.” He responds tiredly.

“Then we’ll have one. Now sleep.” I whisper back, shutting my eyes. I breathe in his musky scent one last time, before drifting off slowly.
