My Way Home Is Through You

The Collision Of Your Kiss

She sat there wrapped in a sweater, holding the white lighter to the cigarette sitting softly in between pink rosy lips. She sucked in while igniting the top as it sparked up, sending the warm smoke into her lungs.

“You know that’s bad for you, right Lena?” Mikey frowned as he flicked his cigarette between his middle and index finger, a look of genuine concern spread across his face.

“Hush Mikey,” Lena smiled exhaling the gray smoke into the early morning summer air. “You smoke like a chimney.” She shook her head. Lena smoked to impress Mikey, and Mikey smoked to impress Lena, but neither of them would admit that to each other.

An awkward silence passed between the two good friends. They sat there smoking their cigarettes on top of their run down high school. “Fuck,” Mikey frowned putting out his cigarette on the rooftop, “I just can’t believe that, you know, it’s actually over.”

“I didn’t think that finishing high school would feel this shitty.” Lena huffed as she stood back up. The sun had begun to rise above the lush forest that branched out before the main entrance of the school.

“Look Lena,” Mikey reluctantly got back on his feet and faced her, pushing a strand of dirty blonde hair out of her face. “I’ve gotta tell you something -” But before he could finish his lips met hers, it felt weird at first, kissing your best friend. But there was something about it that felt right, Mikey loved Lena, and Lena felt the same. But they wouldn’t admit that to each other. They had been wanting this for a very long time.

They spent the rest of the day with each other, in bed. And that was the last time Lena saw Mikey Way. The next day he packed up and he got on a tour bus with the rest of My Chemical Romance, and then he was gone. First there was emails, Facetime, texts and calls. But then one day, they just stopped. With every passing month, Lena got sicker and sicker. But one day, almost two years later, she woke up to find that Mikey, Gerard, Ray, and Frank were finally coming home.
