Catch Me If You Can
Stained Glass Eyes
*Amber's POV*
I sit in the dark, watching the storm roll in. The early morning humidity forms, and the vampires begin to slither away. I turn to see that our four protesters have also vanished. Vampires you see do not like sun light; they don't hide or parish at the sight of it. They are always there, just invisible to the human eye. Just last night as Gerard was—
"Amber, its time to leave. We don't have much time, pack your stuff." Mikey's curly says, interrupting my thoughts. No matter where we go it always seems like our protectors follow us, always closely behind. Maybe they can just smell us, maybe it's all in my head. I've always been known as crazy.
"The storm is coming," I say still not moving," cant we wait it til its past before we leave?" I already know wht his answer will be, but I still feel the need to ask.
"If we wait, we die. Pack your stuff, and lets go. If I have to say it again I'm going to leave you...again." Mikey retorts. Hes been acting weird lately and I don't know why. He used to love watching the rain with me, and now he wants to look right passed it into the unknown. I want my Mikey Way back. The boy I used to love, the one who used to love me.
*Mikey's POV*
As we walk out the door of the shotgun shack we briefly called home, the rain starts to fall and the wind starts to blow. Deep down I know Amber was right; we should have waited it out, but now it just doesn't feel the same between us. I used to love her, but somethings off. She knows something that I don't and she's hiding it. I know it's about Ariel, but she's dead by now, it's been ten years without a trace. Dead is the only answer.
I see a faint green sign up ahead that says 'Monroeville City limits', and I can't help but to smile. We are leaving New Jersey to try and find the alleged 'Safe House' in Florida. If it's real, I don't know. If it can keep us safe, I hope so.
With four hours of walking behind us, and now arriving at the very edge of New Jersey, I know Amber will want to stop.
"Look, there's a church there," I say to break the long lasting silence," Lets stop for a while. You look tired and beaten down."
"Maybe I would be doing better if I hadn't just walked for hours in nothing but cold New Jersey rain!" She spat. It's rare to see Amber angry, or even mad. Kinda shows that she really is hiding something.
"Okay, okay, calm down. We'll go inside and stop for today, tonight when everyone comes back we can talk about what to do next. Sound good to you Princess?" I replied with sarcasm. Her being mad make me mad and I don't know why.
" Sure, whatever you want. And don't say 'everyone' when you talk about your brother and the other protectors; they're not like the rest of them. They don't want to hurt us. It seems like you often forget that..." Amber quickly replies before stomping off into the no empty, once happy church.
I get there only seconds after she does, and I can already see the stained glass windows inside. I walk over too one and just stare. The people in the picture are free; worry less, and I'm stuck here only getting to look through their stained glass eyes.
