The World Is Ugly, But You're Beautiful To Me

Art Is The Weapon

Art...

An escape. A lifestyle. A weapon...

Art of all kinds. Anyone can create as much as anyone can destroy. In my case, I live in the destruction and create an escape.

I slowly took a seat at my easel and looked around at the artists whomed arrived. Todays objective: Shadow and texture. What would I draw? Who knows? My artistic side has a mind of its own.

When the teacher told us to begin, I sat back and concentrated, letting my inner artists release from its cage. My arms and fingers began to tingle and and burn. My hand subconsciously reached for the charcoal and went to work. I sort of blacked-out during and let the artist take over...

When my mind resurfaced and I studied my creation.

A girl with her arms crossed on an X over her chest. She was staring right at me with lost eyes that managed to acknowledge my presence. She was seeing into me...

I recieved a passable grade for my sketch. The teacher was impressed.

I wandered down the hall during lunch break and passed by the music room. A beautiful sound caught my attention. I backed up and peered through the door window. A girl was inside there playing a harp. A harp! I stood dazed and listened, watching the girl's fingers strum each chord. She was so familiar...

Suddenly the door opened and I snapped out of my thoughts.

"Can I help you, boy?" the music instructor asked me.

"Uh- no! I was just listening. I'm sorry if I interrupted." I quickly said backing down the hall. The girl playing the harp stood, grabbed a white cane and probed her way through the room toward the door.

"We're done for now anyway." she said to the instructor and me. She looked up at me with distant, grayish-blue filmed eyes and smiled modestly. "Lead me to the cafeteria, will ya?" she asked me. I linked arms with her as she had gestured and led her to the dining area.
