A Life of Crime

Sneak Peak

Saturday, June 11 2:13am:
Frank had left almost immediately after dropping Naomi off. Well, it wasn’t immediately because he didn’t feel right about leaving her alone. Then he remembered that feeling like that was ridiculous because she was in a hospital surrounded by dozens of doctors and nurses.
Frank walked towards his group, stopping a few blocks away from the hospital, where it looked like there were no police men. He took something out of his pocket and looked at the four little baggies in his hand. Crystal meth. He took them away from Naomi after one fell out of her pocket in front of the hospital. She didn't look like she used, Frank shook his head and ditched the stuff in one of those huge trashcans outside fast food places. He picked up his cell phone and called Mikey.
"Hey where are you guys?"
"Where are we? Dude you ran off! All you had to do was get the guy out of the scene of the crime and then come back!" Frank could tell he wasn't angry, just worried.
"It wasn't a guy!" He said almost defensively.
"So what, you have a crush now? Look, I don't care if it wasn't even human, just tell me where you are so we can go get you."
Naomi was treated in the emergency room about an hour ago and was now waiting for the police to arrive and question her. Her parents had been contacted and were said to be on their way. She was panicking. If her parents got there first she’d get dragged out of the hospital and get the crap beaten out of her, and if the cops are first, she’ll be labeled a snitch and get killed the next time she goes out. She was touching the stitches lightly, especially the ones on the symbol. She thought back to the incident, trying to figure out if there was any way she could have avoided it. She gave up when her parents walked in; they were sober at the moment.
“Naomi, come on we’re going home.” Said her mother, she was fidgeting, Naomi got up and walked over to her parents stiffly.
“Oh ma’am, ma’am! She can’t leave, the police are on there way to talk to her.”
“Oh no, I don’t want her to talk to them.” Said her father, Naomi could see her parents were getting nervous.
“Mr. and Mrs. Carlton, your daughter was assaulted last night. Don’t you want to figure out who did it?”
“No, and we’re leaving.” said her father, grabbing her wrist and yanking her out of the hospital. Once they were out, he smacked her upside the head. “What the hell were you doing? You were supposed to bring the stuff four hours ago! Do you have it?”
“No.” she said looking at the ground, prepared to be hit.
“Oh my god, you useless bitch!” whispered her mom. She reached for Naomi’s hair, but a police man’s presence stopped her.
“Are you Naomi Carlton?” asked the officer. Naomi looked at both of her parents, searching for permission.
“Yeah I am, what can I do for you officer…Jones?” she said reading his name tag. "Mom, dad, you can go now." She could see that's all they wanted. The officer watched them walk away, he knew what they were, but he decided to focus on the task at hand.
“Yes, I understand that you have been a victim of assault. Do you think you can describe the assailant?" Naomi knew she could, hell she could even give a name, but telling might as well be a death sentence.
"Uhh no, I had my eyes shut the whole time, I was too scared. I've heard that some people around here kill you for just seeing their face. I didn't want to risk it." She said lying in a way that would make her laugh if she were a close friend of herself.
"I see…are you aware that a very detailed report of your wounds was written?"
"Yeah, so?"
"Well the symbol at your waist, on the right, that's a gang's signature. They only leave it when they feel you owe them something." Naomi almost made a run for it, but everyone knows that's the universal sign of guilt. Also she had stitches that she didn't want opening up, so instead she shrugged.
"I don't have any idea what that's about, m-maybe they just got me mixed up with someone else?" She suggested.
"Yeah, maybe." Naomi could see he wasn't buying it. "Alright you can go, we'll contact you if we need anything else."
"Yeah, thanks." She walked to her parents who had gone to their car already.
"We ever tell you that we wanted a boy?" Asked her dad as she slumped into her seat.
"Only about a thousand times." She mumbled to herself rolling her eyes.
"What was that?" Asked her dad aggressively after sensing some disrespect on her end.
"Nothing sir." She said opening her window, and resting her arm on the now empty space. She loved feeling the wind and pretending she was somewhere else, someone else.
"Well we did, a boy probably could have done his job right and been able to get away from Wally."
"How'd you know it was him?"
"Eh…not the first time he's done this to you, although he was more aggressive than usual." Her father showed no worry in his face or words.
"Still, don't you think going to the hospital was a bit of an exaggeration?" Said her mom, practically mocking her daughter's decision to get medical attention.
"It wasn't my choice, this guy found me and took me."
"What if he was a cop? Oh now they know everything! And it's all your fault!"
"Mom calm down, dad's driving, your gonna make him nervous too."
"What you think I can't drive?"
"No, you can." Said Naomi, trying to keep her dad from flipping out while driving.
"You're plotting against us, I bet you told that cop everything!" Shouted her mom.
"No mo-"
"That true?" Shouted her father, hitting the breaks. Naomi put her hands on both front seats to keep herself from flying forward. In that instant she could feel some of the stitches open up.
"Hah, fuck! N-no I didn't talk about you guys to anyone."
"Why'd you curse at us then?" Asked her father, still doubting her.
"My stitches opened up." She mumbled.
"Well deal with it at home, we're not going back there."
"I know." She sighed. Naomi turned her head to look outside, closing her eyes and just trying to feel the wind blow on her face and through her hair. She imagined she was somewhere else, someone else, just like she always did when she was inside a car.

@Lollita:3
I totally don't think it's as strange or out there as some people may think. Just cause he's part of the band doesn't mean he needs to be in every fic. He's not in the one I'm currently writing either lol.

@MorganInWonderland
Thanks! Also awesome that you didn't mention the Gerard thing, you have no idea how happy that made me.

@Bowie
Thanks so much, I'm honestly just happy people are reading this; I feel like not that many read the straight fics
