Oh, Fuck

I sit with my feet propped on my desk, a smile is plastered on my stupid face. I’m feeling good. No, I’m feeling accomplished. I woke up a half hour earlier than usual in time to even make myself some coffee. Which tasted a lot better and less watered down than what I’m used to in the office.

“Frank.” I hear my boss, Darla, calling me. I spin my chair around and I’m surprised to see her wearing a friendly expression on her face and a no-nonsense gray pantsuit.
“Good morning.” I say in the most ‘gentleman’ voice I could muster.
“I just received your most recent work report and it’s apparent that you’ve been working hard! I know you had a rough day yesterday but I’m happy to see you putting in your all.” She beams.
“Oh well thank you. I’d also like to apologize for my outbursts yesterday. I was having an... odd day.”

“No worries Frank.”She waves it off “We all have our off days. But I just came to congratulate you.”
“I appreciate it. Have a nice day.” I say, obviously kissing ass as is the norm when around her.
“You too.” She says before walking away. I lean back both hands behind my head, and feet kicked up. Life was finally going my way for once. I’m well rested, doing well in my job, and I even payed back Comic Book Guy this morning by putting the book set on his desk.

“I see you’re in a good mood.” Nancy chimes in however, I don’t get annoyed. Not even Nosy Nancy can bring me down from this high.
“You’d be correct.”
“Oh? What changed. You used to be our Cranky Frankie.” She crosses her legs to show off the parts of her thighs that her skirt refuse to cover. I cringe at her little nickname she has for me. No one calls me that. Ever. “Is it a girl? Are you seeing someone?” She bites her lip in an attempt to be flirtatious. Nosy Slut. I think to myself even though I maintain my child-like smile. I want to be able to respect my coworkers, but she makes it difficult.
“No, no. Just been having good luck lately.” I reply honestly.
“Oh I see-” She’s cut off by a stern voice.
“Hey you!” I jerk my head around to see the guy from yesterday marching towards me, face bright red. I’m speechless.

“What the hell is this?” He yells while slamming down the comic books on my desk in front of me.
“I payed you back like you asked.” I say, a look of confusion taking over my face.
“Do you know what this is?” Comic Book Guy puts his hands on his hips. If he were an animated character he would have smoke coming out of his ears.
“A comic book?” I reply, keeping my calm.
“Do you know what kind?” He raises his eyebrows at me.
“I don’t know I-”
“These are gay pornos you sick freak!” I look at him in shock. “Care to explain?” I sit frozen while people around us are turning around to watch us. It’s amazing how quickly my day can go from great to horrific.

“What do you mean? I just picked them out from under comics.They were the only new releases in case you’d already have any I would have bought.” I mutte,r my voice raising again.
“Oh don’t play dumb. You did this on purpose!”
“I did not!”
“Did too!”
“I did not!” He rolls his eyes at me and picks the book back up.
“Then how did you not see this.”Comic Book Guy flips to a random page and points it towards me. My face turns into a tomato when I see graphic images of pornography right in front of me.
“Dude put that away!” I yell.
“I will when you tell me why you did it.”
“Did what?” I ask, my voice higher than usual.
“Picked it out. Why did you pick this out and put it on my desk this morning?” He is now tapping his left foot repeatedly.
“Because I didn’t know! I tried to pay you back!” I immediately think back to when the cashier from yesterday laughed at me. “So that's why…” I whisper to myself.
“I don’t believe you.”

I glance at the title and see that it reads “Adventures in Yaoi” Oh, Fuck.
