Hesitant Alien

The World is Big Enough Without You.

The screaming and stumping down stairs didn’t let Frank concentrate on what he was supposed to do. It didn’t help that he didn’t know exactly what that was either. He looked down at the cables hooked on the sound panels that were connecting them to the weird machine on the floor.
While he listed in his head a various number of curses and wished he was still at Rutgers University studying something boring and safe, he could feel a pair of pressuring eyes that weren’t even in the room.
Frank was in the sound room of the small theater where he was supposed to be playing with his band for the first time overseas. Instead, something went wrong and somehow he was now trying to disarm an alien machine that he didn’t understand.

“Fu…” he interrupted himself, frustrated and looked at the golden tool in his hand with the pink end. “I have to do this”

The instructions were simple enough, maybe too much and that’s why he was hesitating because he had no idea what a -sonic screwdriver- was or what it was supposed to do but he thought it had to be more difficult than point and press a button. It just had to. Then again nothing seemed logic so far so he hoped that the man that trusted him with the task was right about Frank’s ability to do it right.
He finally decided that he could do it. He took a deep breath closed his eyes and pointed forward. Then, he only opened one of his eyes and finally pressed the button on the tool. It made a buzzing sound and so did the alien machine in front of him. He heard a loud distortion outside in the theater so he stood up and looked through the big window from where he could see the stage.
The Doctor was running towards it through the sits and he thought he’d do the same. Frank run out of the sound room and down the stairs and into the stage room against the few people left that were trying to get out. Once inside, he saw The Doctor jumping up the stage where, just a few moments ago, Frank himself was trying to play with his band. The Doctor saw him running towards him and pointed at his sonic screwdriver that Frank still had in his hand. When he was close enough he threw it at The Doctor up the stage who caught it easily and did as Frank with the machine to the microphone that stood up there. The sonic screwdriver did the same buzzing sound and The Doctor grabbed the mic. He truly looked like a rock star, like he’d been up on a stage a million times before. Frank was in awe.

“I order you to leave this planet alone! You can’t feed off of their sounds. They are protected. There’s no place for you here!”

There was again that same distortion that now seemed to be reacting to the sound of the Doctor’s voice through the mic. The distortion was so loud and strong that Frank could actually see the sound waves and they seemed to be trying to fight off the sound from the microphone.

“Come on” you can’t fight it. Just give up.”

The sound waves were starting to take from, as if it was a ghost. Like an energy ghost, Frank thought. Of course he had no idea what exactly was going on so his guess was as good as anyone and who wasn’t The Doctor who clearly did know what he was doing.
Frank saw The Doctor take from one of the pockets of his blue blazer some sort of round device. It looked like a golden disc but wasn’t flat and it wasn’t like a ball either. He tossed it on the floor and it slide beneath the sound wave entity was starting to gather energy and it started to suck that energy in. the sound it made was truly deaf-ing, so much that Frank had to cover his ears and it wasn’t even close to be enough. He got on his knees on the floor and covered himself as much as he could. Then suddenly the sound was gone.

“Hey. Are you alright?”

Frank slowly uncovered himself and from the floor looked up. The Doctor was walking towards him and offering him a hand to help him stand up.

“I can barely hear but I’m okay.”
“Good. It’s going to pass in a moment.”

The Doctor turned around and started to walk away. Frank stood there frowning for a second and then run after him, feeling his sense of hearing slowly coming back.

“So… what happened?”
“What happened?”
“Yes, that’s what I asked”
“I captured the alien, as usual. Probably going to throw it away at a distant planet where it can’t harm anyone”

Frank was following The Doctor out the theater into the street where police was gathering and there were a lot of people too. He just passed through them ignoring them completely. He looked back at the people and then at The Doctor again who was just crossing the street as if nothing had happened with his hands on his pockets.

“And what now?”
“Now? Well… I leave.”
“You leave? Don’t you have to make… an statement to the police or something? Probably so do I.”

The Doctor finally stopped walking and turned to Frank looking confused.

“Why would I want to do that? Why would you want to do that?”
“I think we kinda had to.”
“I didn’t take you for an ‘I have to do something because I have to’ kinda lad. Look, we could do that or… you could come with me.” The Doctor shrugged and lean on a police box that was right on the street.
“What? Where? How?”
“Well…”

The Doctor snapped his fingers and suddenly, the doors to the police box that was just standing there and appeared to be completely normal, opened up and a Frank shifted his head to look inside. His eyes could not be more opened. He was just standing there, looking inside those doors. There was an enormous room inside the small wooden blue box. He looked at The Doctor and looked back inside again.

“I… how…?”
“Well…” The Doctor stood straight. “It’s bigger on the inside. Or smaller on the outside, I heard them both. Maybe it’s dirtier than you imagined even thou it changed a lot since that last one, I think it’s more neat now. So, what do you think? Do you want to come inside?”
“Yes!”

Frank run inside and started to walk and look around. The Doctor stayed leaning on the door watching him with a smile.

“Wait. Shouldn’t I bring my stuff? I don’t have anything with me.” He looked down on himself and noticed that he still had his guitar strapped on him and on his back. “Well, except for Bela.”
“Bela?”
“My Les Paul. My guitar.”
“Oh… well. The TARDIS has a wardrobe and anything you could possibly need. I even have a guitar room somewhere. I had rock star phase at one point. I took one of my guitars and my dark shades almost everywhere. I looked pretty awesome.”
“I’m sorry. The what now?” Frank started to walk towards The Doctor who was still a the door.
“The TARDIS. This is the TARDIS. Time and Relative Dimension in Space. Or Totally and Radically Driving in Space. Sounds cooler”
“Okay…?” Frank laughed and The Doctor laughed with him.
“So?”
“You really want me to come with you?”
“I’ve been alone for a while. I’ve been told it doesn’t do me so good. And you were pretty great back there.”
“Okay then. I mean of you really need to be with someone, might as well be me.”
“Hey! I don’t need to.”
“You just said you basically needed me” Frank turned around and started to walk back inside. The Doctor closed the door and walked behind him.
“I did not!”
“You did too. I heard you. Bela heard you. The TARDIS heard you.”

The TARDIS made a sound as soon as Frank finished saying this. The Doctor looked surprised for the first time in the hour or so that Frank had known him.

“Hey!” The Doctor complained towards the console and Frank laughed at him once again.
“See? We all agree.”
“Traitor” He spoke to the TARDIS again.

Frank sat down at a step of the few that leaded to the big console and The Doctor passed right through him and up.

“Anyway, this isn’t how it’s supposed to go but it’s actually nice of a change.”

Frank turned his head around and grinned to The Doctor who smiled back at him, a bit hopeless but he seemed glad to have company. Then Frank turned his guitar in front of him and started to play some random notes just so he could think straight. He didn’t know what he was doing. He was sure he wasn’t supposed to be there or leave like that. He had people who’d worry about him but he knew it wouldn’t be him if he’d think too much about it and said no. Frank was all about adventures in life, that’s why he dropped out of college for music, that’s why he was in London, that’s why he was at the gig in that theater that night. So… how could he say no to an adventure in space and time?

Notes

Hey, I'm back with this!
Sorry it took me so long to update, I have had this for a while but I'm a lunatic and I write on paper first and I'm also a lazy ass and didn't want to type it. Sorry, sorry, sorry. I hope you guys didn't forget about it. Also, it didn't help that I started a new fic which I haven't posted yet, same reason and I'm completely in love and absorbed by that other fic. But I swear I will finish this one cause I love it too.

So, as usual comments are always appreciated ~
xoNa

ps, also sorry, I found out writing this that I kinda suck at narrating adventure, who would've thought haha.
pss, oh and yes, Gerard's Screwdriver is different from the ones we know, it's kinda all one color, all golden and with a pink light. Kinda like Tenth's but maybe a bit longer? I hope you can imagine that.
