Battery City Boys

Waking Up In Paradise

As the two brothers raced down the New York City streets, Adrian tried to collect his thoughts. He had just killed somebody. Scratch that, he had just just two somebodies. He knew that it was the only way to stay alive, and he knew that they were bad men, very bad men, but he couldn't help but feel....guilty.

These were someone's kids. They may have been adults, but they were kids at one point, also. They grew up in families, had moms and dads, possibly even brothers and sisters, and he just killed them.

Holding back tears, Adrian closed his eyes and willed the day to finally be over. He willed himself to forget the facts. They were no longer men. Sure, they may look the part, but they were nothing but masked monsters intent on kidnapping the weak and killing the ones who resisted.

They're bad men, Addie. They don't have morals, anymore.

He kept telling himself that, and soon, holding his head onto his brother's back, the purr of the bike's engine lulled him into a restless sleep.

Adrian awoke a few hours later, in a sleeping bag that he didn't recognize. Clambering out of it, Adrian frantically searched for his older brother, his eyes like those of a frightened deer's.

"Hey, kid. We were wondering when you'd wake up."

Adrian's head snapped up, and his eyes landed on the lanky figure of Kobra Kid. Realizing that he was in fact safe, and not being kidnapped, Adrian calmed down a bit. Said lanky man walked over to him, holding in his hands what appeared to be a can of dog food. Kobra held it out for him to take, then rubbed his hand across his neck when it was accepted.

"Sorry for the lack of human food. We sorta ran out around a month ago. Tastes like absolute ass, but it has nutrients, and..."

Adrian nodded, saving Kobra the pain of having to explain of how, exactly, they managed to run out of human food. Kobra nodded back, turning towards the door, then back to Adrian.

"I forgot to tell you, your brother's outside with Poison. We figured he might as well learn how to shoot. You can join him, if you'd like. Party's not the best with guns, but he'll teach you."

Adrian shook his head, looking around for his bag, and pulling out the bat. Showing it to Kobra, the older boy nodded.

"So, you prefer hitting them up close and personal, huh?"

Shrugging, Adrian put the bat back, then walked over to Kobra, passing him as he entered the next room. Pacing himself to keep up with the shorter man, Kobra pointed out that they weren't actually in NYU, but they were based off of a small string of shops nearby.

"Come on, kid, I'll show you around."

Kobra held open the shop door, letting Adrian walk outside, before quickly shutting it. He pointed out the multiple stores, and told the young adult their uses.

There were about four that they inhabited. One for eating, one for sleeping, one for inventory, and the last was for whatever they did in their free time.

"Yeah, that one, we hold all of our epic dance-offs. You should see my moves. I kick their asses all of the time."

Kobra tried horribly to spin around, causing himself to trip, had it not been for Adrian pulling him up by his jacket. Laughing, the blonde clapped him on the shoulder, and they continued walking. After a few minutes of peaceful silence, Kobra brought him to the fifth store that they didn't really use.

"This one, well, this one had running water, surprisingly. I don't know if the city still has people in it, or if it's from the river, but the toilets work, and the showers do too, so that's all I care about. You would not believe how bad a guy can smell two months without showering."

Adrian nodded, pointing towards the general direction of where Frank and Party were training. Kobra Kid shuddered.

"I forgot, you do know the pain and suffering."

They stopped at the last store on the block, and Kobra turned to his companion.

"So, how'd you like the grand tour. It usually costs an arm and a leg to get me off of my ass, but you seem cool."

Adrian nodded his approval. Kobra was getting used to the silent nodding and shaking of the boy's head.

"We should probably start heading back. Everyone's probably wondering what's taking so long. They might send out a search party."

The boy agreed, and began to walk back to the base. Kobra tapped him on the shoulder lightly.

"I can also see about getting you some paper and pens, that way, you can write. I might have to 'borrow' them from Party, though. But never fret, young one, my thieving skills are mighty!"

He made jazzhand motions around the smaller boy, who slapped his hands away mockingly. Adrian laughed silently, quickly falling into step with the tall boy, as they made their way back to the others.

What Adrian didn't know, is that Party Poison would in fact, send a search party after them.
