Battery City Boys

Ghosts

Adrian woke with a start. He always was a light sleeper, so it didn't come as a shock, anymore. He rose out of his sleeping bag, popping his back as he did.

It was early. By what Party Poison's watch read, it was about a quarter past four. He was up earlier than usual, then.

"Might as well make a few rounds on the perimeter."

Feeling more awake, the young adult tiptoed over the still-slumbering bodies of his commrades, and over to his bag. He quietly changed out of his thin sleeping clothes, now nothing more than a raggy t-shirt of some band he saw a few years ago, and a pair of dirty sweats. He pulled on a well-loved sweater, a pair of ruined jeans, and his usual hoodie. Its sleeves were torn a bit at the sleeves, having worn it a thousand times at school. Now, the harsh winds and pouring rain had pulled the seams that much looser.

Feeling much more comfortable in his skin, Adrian silently picked up his bat, and headed outside, and into the cold, shutting the door behind him, the slight creak making Jet Star stir, but not wake.

The wind didn't bother Adrian, anymore. He was used to the frigid air, by now. Having been to New York a thousand times before, he wasn't surprised by the weird-ass weather that the state had continued to suffer from.

Adrian walked around the perimeter, cobblestone lining the sidewalks, cracked at some spots, the constant precipitation and lack of upkeeping helped improve the sight of greens.
Shouldering his bat, the silent teen passed through the broken path. He looked around at the ruins of buildings, the caved in rooves, and the smashed windows, bricks lining the entrance, like little lawn ornaments.

He continued off of the path blindly, as if the unknown was a siren, beckoning him off of his boat.

Walking through the deserted streets, passing the old buildings that were once so full of life and happiness, Adrian had realized, with a sad thought, that it really was a ghost town.
There was nobody else here, it was empty, and dark, no life, no smiling faces, or even the poor beggars in the alleyways. It was as if a candle had been snuffed out with a desparate hush. A silent plea for salvation.

The boy sighed, continuing his way down the street, watching the dull, cloudy skies roll past, as if they had somewhere to be.

Someone to go home to.

He shook himself out of his own melancholy, knowing that he was being silly.

"Clouds are clouds. They don't have anyone to go home to. No one to impress, or to bring joy to, idiot."

Deciding that he had had enough of his lonesome thoughts, Adrian turned around, and started on his route back to the base. He began to count a pattern in each cobblestone step.
Forward two steps, left one, forward three, right one. Repeat. Forward two, left one, forward three, right one.

On and on he held this pattern. Before he realized it, he had made his way to a small cafe, one that he recognized. It was one of those quaint little shops that his friend Eliza had taken him to, back when the city, and the miniature towns within them, were still filled with life.

"Oliver's Coffee Shop. I remember this place... How nice it is to see a familiar sight, again."

Adrian walked inside, without another thought, and was left alone in the silence.

No friends to miss, no family members to worry about.

Just him, the ghosts of old customers, old memories, and his old life.

His own little headspace.

Like a candle flame being snuffed out.

Notes

So, it's a little/very late, but chapter ten is up!
I don't know if I will be writing many more chapters, after this one. I may make it to about twenty-ish, and then end it.
Don't worry, I plan on writing a sequel to it, I just don't want to write a chapter, then not finish the story, and go onto other writings.

I will also be doing oneshots! I need ideas, prompts, and I will also be taking suggestions for this story. I may not choose all of them, but I like ideas from other people.

Anyways, all business aside, it's time for the question of the day/night!

What's your favorite band?

Mine's a tie between MCR and Electric Century, I enjoy the peaceful ~vibes~ that music brings.

Leave your answers in the comment section below, and feel free to leave ideas/suggestions for this story, as well. If you have a prompt for me, for another story, I will be accepting messages!

Until we meet again,
