Thirty Five Days
19: Getting Ready
Since I stopped being able to attend band practise Matt and Chris had barely spoken to me. If it weren't for Mikey constantly reminding me to do homework or giving me a countdown to the Black Flag concert I'm not sure how I would have managed the incredibly dull days in school. Only the fact that I was skipping Wednesday afternoon made me actually turn up to my classes in the first place.
Despite our frequent conversations over text, Gee refused to tell me anything about what we were going to do on Wednesday, insisting that it had to be a complete surprise. Much to my annoyance, he wouldn't even tell me if we were going to leave the house. I had tried asking Mikey a few times but he had just shrugged and said that Gee hadn't told him either. By Wednesday morning I felt like I was going to implode from not knowing.

All through my classes I devoted my attention to thinking about what on Earth Gee had planned rather than whatever it was the teacher was droning on about. Occasionally, Mikey would nudge me, reminding me that I was supposed to be at least pretending to work.
As soon as the bell went at the end of my last class I practically sprinted out the door without even saying bye to Mikey. The entire way home I debated whether or not I would have time to get changed before Gee arrived. Once my house was in sight I realised that was not going to be the case. Gerard was already sitting on the doorstep.
He was dressed similarly to how he had been the last time, but this time he had a jacket made of black velvet and was holding a bunch of red flowers that almost seemed to be glowing against his dark clothes. Walking up to him in my old Misfits shirt and washed out jeans I suddenly felt very underdressed.
"Er, hi."
He turned to face me as I spoke and smiled at me, looking genuinely pleased to see me.
"Well hello, Frank. How are you this rather fine afternoon?"
"I'm good, thanks. How are you?"
Despite being slightly confused by the near formality of his greeting I decided to just go along with it.
"All the better for seeing you, Frankie. Now, are you going to let us inside your house or must we do all of this on the doorstep? It is, after all, your own time we are encroaching upon."
Smiling to myself I unlocked the front door then stepped to one side to allow Gee inside before me.
Once we went into the living room he turned to face me, smirking slightly.
"Now then, we can't exactly have you dressed like that, can we? You're letting me down considering how much effort I put in for this afternoon. If you just follow me, we'll see what we can do about your clothing."
Without giving me a chance to respond, he grabbed my hand and started to lead me upstairs, presumably towards my bedroom since that was the only place he had actually been upstairs. It wasn't until we were halfway up the stairs that I realised he was still holding the flowers in his other hand.

Once we were in my bedroom he gestured for me to sit on my bed, placed the flowers on my cabinet and then began to rake through my wardrobe.
He picked out all of my pairs of black jeans, comparing them to each other and then to the ones I was wearing. Once he had decided on a pair he placed them beside me and then went back to looking through my wardrobe. He went through the same selection process again, but this time it was white shirts he was looking at. I had considerably less white shirts than black jeans so it took him a lot less time to pick one, which he then also places beside me on the bed. He completed the outfit with a red tie and my least wrecked pair of all black converse. Once it was all laid out beside me, he stepped back and admired the outfit."Well, what are you waiting for Frankie? You need to go and put it on."
"Really? You want me to get changed into all of this?"
"Of course I do Frankie. Now off you go and get changed. I'll still be here when you get back."
It was clear that I didn't have much of a choice about this and so, very conscious of the time, I went to get changed.

Sure enough, Gee was sitting a little too innocently on my bed when I got back. His smile widened as he looked at my outfit.
"You know Frankie, you're almost perfect."
"'Almost perfect'? Wow, you need to work on your compliments Gee."
"It's okay Frank. I just meant that you weren't done yet."
As he spoke, he gestured behind him rather grandly and I noticed for this first time that there was an array of eyeshadows and eyeliner on my bed.
"You're like a stereotypical 10 year old girl at a sleepover, you know that don't you Gee? First you dress me up, then you give me a make-over... What's next, a slumber party?"
"Well actually, I wouldn't object to that one..."
Even as he responded to my statement he was picking out eyeshadows and checking them against my face. I sat rather meekly on my bed, letting Gerard move my face around so he could properly apply the make-up. Once he was satisfied he took me over to the mirror. I hardly recognised my reflection.
Apart from the huge difference in my outfit, Gerard had rimmed my eyes in red, making them stand out against my skin. The eyeliner smudged, but still somehow perfect. I had never been so impressed.
"Do you like it?" he asked nervously.
"I love it."
"Well then, I suppose you're ready now."
Notes
Another update! I had this one written already and decided to post it early because I'm gonna be working on an essay for class towards the end of this week.
So, what do you think Gee has planned for their date? You'll probably find out next week sometime...
Thank you again for reading this, (all 22k words!) and, as always, don't forget to comment any feedback or if you have any guesses for date activities. <3
PS This is what Frank and Gee look like (although Frank's hair is a bit different)
I got so excited about the Black Flag concert, 'cause I'm binge listening to them right now hahaha
