And then I met my teacher

And Also, Welcome To Montreal

''Well, nice to meet you. I'm Mr. Way.'' He smiled.
''I'm Frank.'' I said as I stood up to shake his hand.
''Jeez! You're soaking wet! Do you need something do dry yourself up?'' He said, staring at my awkwardly wet pants.
''No, I'll be fine, thanks.'' I answered. He seemed pretty nice. Maybe Visual Arts wouldn't be that bad after all. I looked at my schedule to see if I had him in any other classes. I happened to have him in 3 different art classes. I smiled at my schedule. At least 3 out of 4 art classes would be with a nice teacher.

Other students came in and a guy sat next to me. He had black hair and dark brown eyes. I smiled at him.
''Hey! You're new here, right?'' He asked.
''Yes, it's my first day. I just moved here.''
''Cool. I'm James by the way.''
''Frank.'' I answered. He smiled and Mr. Way started talking.
''Please everyone, I would like you to take your coursepack and go to page 28.'' Everyone did as he said and I just looked down, praying that no one would notice that I didn't own any of the required material.
''Frank, what happened to your coursepack?'' He asked in a stern voice tone.
''I don't have it.'' I mumbled.
''What was that? I didn't quite hear what you just said.''

Wow. He was a complete jerk. I had told him, a few minutes ago, that I had just moved here and now he was doing a scene out of a coursepack in front of the whole class. I really should have stayed home.
''I. Don't. Have. It.'' I repeated clearly.
''First of all, I will ask you to stay polite. I will not tolerate any form of arrogance in my class. Now could you explain me why you don't have your coursepack?''
''Because, as I told you before the class started, I just moved here and today's my first day.''
''And so?'' He asked like what I had just said wasn't clear enough.
''So I had no way of knowing the material I would need for this class, or any other class.''
''I messaged all my students, including you, on omnivox yesterday to tell them to buy the coursepack for today's class. Everyone did. Everyone but you.''

Some people in the back were giggling at the situation and I literally felt like crying. For the first time since my dad had passed away, I started to feel like a little boy again. I just wanted my daddy back. I wanted to take the first flight to Jersey and go back to Belleville. I wanted to be in high school with Tommy, Kyle, Jenna and Mrs. Brock. Not with James and Mr. Way. I tried to hold back my tears as I spoke.
''I don't even know what omnivox is.'' I said with a broken voice. I wasn't even looking at him anymore. I wasn't looking at anyone actually. I was trying to ignore James' glare as best as I could and I was focussing really hard on not letting a single tear escape my eyes.
''I would like to see you after class. For today, Mr. Hamrick you will share your book with Mr. Iero.''
''Sure.'' James said nicely.

The rest of the lesson went by silently with only Mr. Way speaking about art stuff. I noticed that the students actually seemed to like him. I glanced at James, looking for answers.
''Do people actually like him?'' I asked shocked.
''Well, yeah. Usually he's nice. I don't know why he acted like that with you. Pretty much everyone likes him.''
''Okay...'' I said, confused.
''What's your schedule anyways?'' He asked. I took the paper out of my almost empty bag and placed it on the table we were sharing. He checked everything and announced me that we had the exact same schedule. I smiled at him. At least I would have a friend to survive through the entire semester. He took a piece of paper on wrote something down before handing it to me. It was his phone number.
''If you want to hang out sometime.'' He smiled.
''Sure. I'll text you so that you have my phone number too.'' I took out my phone to text him, but a hand grabbed it before I could reach the send button.

''No cellphones in my class.'' Mr. Way said, putting my phone in his desk drawer. James looked at me and I could see he was feeling bad. I smiled at him like I didn't care, but of course it was fake.

After three hours of hearing Mr. Way talking about the Renaissance's sculptures, time was finally up. I just wanted to go home and sleep, but I had to get back my phone somehow.
''You'll be fine?'' James asked. This dude was such a sweetheart. I nodded. He smiled and told me to text him if there was anything. I thanked him and he left, leaving me alone with Mr. Way. I looked out the window and noticed that the grayish weather of the morning had been replaced with a beautiful sunny one.
''You wanted to talk to me?'' I asked politely. He nodded and stood up. He was standing in the sunlight that was coming in by the window. The ray of sun that was passing through his eyes made me realize how beautiful they were. He was speaking, but I wasn't listening. I was simply staring at the beauty of his face. The man I wanted to punch in the face 30 minutes now appeared to me has the most beautiful creature that had ever been made. His pale skin and dark hair contrasted perfectly with the warmth of his hazel eyes. The way the sunlight reflected on his perfect face was making him look like an angel. He had probably noticed that I was staring instead of listening because he had stopped talking.
''Frank? Are you alright?'' He asked calmly.
''Yes, your eyes are just extremely distracting, sorry.'' I said. As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I was already regretting them. Now I looked like a fucking weirdo on my first day. Awesome.
''My eyes?'' He asked confused.
''Yeah, they're just really, hum, beautiful.'' Shit. Shit. Shit. I had just made it worst. I looked up to see his facial expression and noticed he was blushing. Cleary I had embarrassed him.
''Oh. Hum, thank you.'' He said shyly. He smiled a little and walked back to his desk. When he opened the drawer, I thought he was going to give me my phone back, but instead he handed me a brand new coursepack.
''I'm not supposed to give those for free, but I think I went a little hard on you today.'' He said. I took the coursepack and smiled.
''Thanks.''
''I noticed you were talking to James earlier?'' he remarked.
''Yeah. He seems nice.'' I answered, not too sure about why he mentioned James.
''I'm glad to see you're making friends.'' He said, smiling. Was he being serious? Less than an hour ago he had almost made me cry in front of the whole class and now he was giving me free coursepacks and he was ''glad to see I'm making friends''? This guy was really hard to follow.
''Anyways, where are you from?'' He asked. Was he trying to make friends of something? He was probably just speaking to me out of guilt due to the way he treated me earlier.
''New Jersey.'' I answered. His face lit up.
''No way! Me too! Where exactly?''
''Belleville'' I answered. He looked at me in awe.
''Seriously?!'' He asked, shocked.
''Well, yeah. Why would I lie about coming from a small town that no one has ever heard about.''
''It's just that I moved from Belleville three years ago and I never met anyone else here who was from there.''
''Well, I am.'' I said, maybe a little too harsh. However, he didn't seem to be bothered by my attitude since he just kept the conversation going.
''Why did you move here?'' He asked. I felt my throat getting dry and my palms getting sweaty.
''My dad got shot on our property and my mom was too scared to stay in New Jersey after that.'' I answered. His face changed and I saw the pity in his eyes.
''I'm really sorry, Frank. I didn-''
''Sorry about what? It's not like you're the one who shot him, right? God, I hate when people say that.'' I said, annoyed. I took a deep breath to calm myself down.
''You, why did you move?'' I asked once I had gotten calmer.
''My little brother has really serious asthma problems and the health care for asthma is not only free but also better here. That's why we moved.''
''Is he doing better?'' I asked.
''Yes, he actually is. Thank you for asking.'' He smiled. I didn't want to ruin anything or to be impolite, but I was exhausted and I just wanted to go home. I didn't want to ask for my phone, but I kind of had to since he seemed to have completely forgotten that it was still in his possession.
''Mr. Way?'' I asked nervously. ''Could I please get my phone back?''
''Oh, sure. Sorry, I forgot.'' He said as he reached for it in his drawer.
''There you go.'' He told me as he gave it back, smiling. I thanked him and started walking away but he stopped me.
''Frank?'' He asked.
''Yes?''
''If you need to talk I just want you to know that you can always come see me.'' He said warmly. I smiled and nodded.
''Oh and also, welcome to Montreal.''
