Just A Home
Six
Why, Gerard thought, why did I have to start a fight again? Gerard ran his hands through his hair, eyes never leaving the door. It’s been four hours and Frank hasn’t come home from their fight. A fight about nothing, practically nothing.
“I get your upset Gerard, but you have been treating me like shit. Your comics have nothing to do with us!” Frank yelled.
“My comic books pay for this place!” Gerard stood, slamming his hands on the coffee table. “My comic books take care of you! Pay for food, heat, the stupid T.V shows we watch!” Frank jumped back.
“But that doesn’t matte tor me. Yes, you have graced me with things I never really had, but I would give it up in a heartbeat if that means being with you, always.” Gerard shoved himself back.
“If my comic book gets kicked off, than we may lose it all!”
“You won’t lose me.” Frank whispered.
“You’ll leave! We wont have a home anymore!”
“You really think I’d leave cause you don’t have money! The person that whines when you come home with presents, and wants to work seventy hours a week to help you pay for things! You’re kidding right? We have been together for six months and you don’t know me at all! How is that possible! Fuck you for thinking that, selfish prick!” Frank yelled before leaving the apartment. Gerard flipped over the coffee table before heading over to his bedroom slamming the door.
Gerard paced around the apartment, until he got a phone call. Answering quickly, it was his boss.
“Gerard I just wanted to let you know that we need your next season of The Umbrella Academy by the first of next month.” Gerard almost dropped the phone.
“What? You’re keeping my work?”
“Why would we stop selling our top seller?” His boss laughed. Gerard’s heart sank, now he really needed to find Frank.
Hearing the phone again, he grunted answering it.
“Hi, Mr. Way, this is one of the RN’s at Staten Island University Hospital, we have a Frank Iero here, says you are his partner. He was in an accident, Hello? Hello, Mr. Way?” When Gerard heard where he was, he didn’t need to hear anything else. His Frank was hurt and he needed to get there now.
Running into the hospital, he almost jumped over the counter. The ladies stood back.
“I need to know where Frank Iero is, I was called.”
“Spell the last name?”
“I-E-R-O.”
“And his first?” Gerard’s mails dug into the counter.
“Frank.” He grunted.
“Are you a family member?”
“No I am his boyfriend.” Her face scrunched up.
“Oh, I’m sorry, we only allow family members in.” That’s when Gerard lost it. Slamming his hands down on the counter, he leaned in close to the nurse.
“You’re fucking kidding me right? My boyfriend a man I take care of, feed, clothed, and love very much is in there in God knows what condition and I can’t see him?” She smiled.
“No, I-“ Gerard took down the corridor to the elevators.
“Fine! I’ll search every floor in this place until I find him!”
“Sir you can’t-“
“Just let him go, obviously the man is important to him.” The head nurse said. “He’s on the third floor in 3423C.” Gerard took off running towards the elevators.
Running around the floor he finally found his room. Walking inside he saw Frank reading a magazine.
“Babe.” Gerard’s whispered, tears rolling onto his cheek. Frank’s head lifted, he smiled lovingly.
“I’m sorry.” Gerard leaned down kissing his head.
“No, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for taking my work out on you. I feel so stupid. You are way more important than work, and the apartment and all the stuff we have. And we are gonna be fine; they are keeping my comic book.” Frank smiled, pulling Gerard to sit next to him.
“We will always be okay with the comic book or without; I love you so much.” Gerard kissed Frank, but pulled away.
“Always, what happened to you?” Gerard caressed Frank’s face.
“Um, well I was walking towards the record shop because I really didn’t have anywhere to go, but when I got there, I felt my heart racing faster than normal, I couldn’t breath and I fainted. I smacked my head on the pavement and Joe called the ambulance.” Gerard pressed his lips to Frank’s head. “They don’t know what’s wrong, but they are gonna run some tests.”
“Speaking of tests, Mr. Iero we are gonna send you down for a CAT scan.” The nurse came over. “You can come if you want, wait outside the room.” She said to Gerard. He nodded watching them poke at Frank. His heart was breaking, but his worry and stress was expanding not knowing what was wrong with Frank.
After tests, after tests, after tests, they found out what was wrong.
“An ulcer. A very large ulcer. Have you been dizzy, tired, and not so hungry lately?” Frank nodded. “Well, that’s what’s going on. It’s very large, meaning you have to take time off work, cause I have a feeling you lift heavy things at work.”
“Yes he does.” Gerard chimed in, holding Frank’s hand.
“And you are on a new diet; no acidy foods, lots of protein-“
“He’s a vegetarian.”
“Protein drinks are fine, if you eat eggs, peanuts.”
“How long do I have to be out of work?”
“At least a month, a month from today you’ll come back and we will do some tests and see if it’s shrunk, if it hasn’t we have to go in a close it ourselves.” Frank nodded.
“How much sick time you have saved up?” Gerard asked.
“I don’t know maybe two weeks worth.” Frank sighed.
“Then that’s what we take for now. Frank we will be fine. You are way more important.”
“I guess so.” Gerard grabbed him, kissing his lips once again.
“You are more important. You are my world.”
“I love you.”
“Always.”
“Always.”
