Just A Home
Four
It was almost Christmas and Gerard had no idea what to get Frank. He knew he liked music, comic books, and old movies. Spinning on his chair at work, he thought, what did he have before he was homeless?
“A guitar!” Gerard practically fell off his chair, trying to grab his phone to call his best friends shop to see what he could get in such short notice.
Frank had no idea what to get Gerard; he’s been working for about a month now and since his boyfriend still refused to take money from him, unless it was a small coffee date or a night out at the movies, he had saved up a pretty good amount especially a nice Christmas gift for someone who saved his life.
On his day off, Frank wondered a local mall; searching through the stores, Frank already had a few clothes for his lover, and a new pair of dress boots, and of course a new pair of converse. But than Frank passed a jewelry shop. And Gerard’s voice came into mind.
Sitting on the couch, Gerard’s head was in Frank’s lap. Stroking his hair, they were watching a black and white movie that was way too sappy and way to dramatic. But it always put a smile of Gerard’s face, since he was hopeless romantic.
“I think that’s so romantic, a promise ring. A promise not only to spend the rest of their lives together, but also to be there whenever needed, through good and bad. A promise, a true promise is the most romantic thing someone could do for another.”
Walking into the shop Frank found the prettiest, most beautiful band he could find.
“Yea, I need it in a men’s size nine. Oh and can you engrave it for me? Thanks!”
Christmas morning, Frank felt Gerard kissing his chest. Opening his eyes, Frank laughed, as he ran his fingers through Gerard’s gorgeous locks.
“Mmm, Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas beautiful. I got a surprise for you.” Gerard kissed Frank on the lips, before pulling him out of bed.
Once they got to the tree that was filled with presents, Gerard told Frank to stay on the couch. Pulling his feet onto the couch, he grabbed the nearest blanket; it was a cold Christmas for sure. Opening the closet, Gerard pulled out a white guitar. Frank jumped up, squealing.
“Oh my God, no, you didn’t! Gerard! This is, this must have cost you-“
“No, nothing about price. I wanted to get you something that you’d love-“
“Well I love it. So much. Oh thank you sweetheart.” Frank placed the guitar carefully against the wall, kissing Gerard hard on the mouth.
“You’re welcome. Now just a couple of more.” Gerard brought Frank to sit on the floor.
“Gerard-“
“Babe, please they are small things.” Gerard promised, but Frank’s meaning of small is different than Gerard’s. He got him clothes and sneakers, some sweat shirts, picks, guitar straps, and more. Frank couldn’t believe he spent so much on him.
“Okay, okay your turn.” Frank started handing Gerard gifts. He fell in love with the clothes Frank bought him and defiantly the boots. He wanted to wear the boots everywhere now. When Gerard opened the last gift, well the last gift of clothes, Gerard leaned over and kissed Frank saying thank you. Framing his older boyfriend’s face, getting Gerard to sit up, Frank straddled his lap.
“Okay, well, I wanted to say thank you for all the gifts, and-“
“You’re welcome.” Gerard laughed, rubbing Frank’s back.
“I just wanted to tell you something.” Frank brushed Gerard’s bed head out of his eyes. “Um, you are everything to me. You saved me, you have taken care of me, protected me, made sure I have food, and warm, comfortable, loved and most of all happy. I just hope I do the same for you.” Frank looked down.
“Baby-“ Frank kissed him.
“Hold on. I have one more gift for you. Something that I hope you will like and I don’t look like an idiot.” Digging through his hoodie pocket, he pulled out a ring box. Gerard’s face turned pale. “Um, I, Gerard, I’m not proposing. I’m making a promise. A promise to care for you to always be there when you need me, good and bad. A promise to spend the rest of my days with you.” Popping open the box, a white gold ring sat in the velvet, three diamonds were on the top of the band. Taking it out in his hand, Frank handed it to Gerard. “Read the inside.” Gerard tilted the ring, gasping at the words.
“Always.” Gerard whispered.
“Yes, always, caring for you, always taking care of you, always loving you. Gee, baby, I love you.” Frank breathed, tears running down his cheeks. Gerard’s head shot up looking at his emotional boyfriend, he started to cry too.
“I love you, so much.” Gerard smiled, Frank took the ring, slipping it on his beautiful boyfriend's right hand. Kissing Gerard he dropped the box, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend’s shoulders. “I love you, Frank, I- oh Frank.” The younger man’s teeth nip and bit Gerard’s neck, panting from want.
“I love you, God, honey.” That’s when Gerard, lifted Frank off the floor, and right to the bedroom, to finally show each other how much they really loved each other.
That afternoon, after having the old couple next door bang on the wall to tell them they were way too loud, Gerard’s family came over. Finally meeting a real family, Frank felt more at home than he has since he was fifteen.
Gerard’s parents loved Frank, thought the younger man was a gentleman, which he was. They probably loved him almost as much as Gerard did.
But all Gerard could do was watch Frank laugh and smile. He loved when Frank was comfortable. The real man he loved came out when he was. That was his Frank, his perfect Frank.
