Endless Night Time Sky
The Way House
Frank had been hanging out in graveyards and old houses since his early teens, literally nothing at this point phased him. There was something about the dark and mysterious places that drew him back like a teen goth to a hot topic... Or a moth to a flame, that works too. Frank was 19 now, and had spent a good majority of his life living in a fine layer of dust in the old Way mansion at the top of the hill. The Way house was a spectacular Victorian house at the top of the hill, a good 4 stories plus an attic and was rumoured to be haunted. Frank had always felt comfy there, late at night. Sure, sometimes he'd hear things but that was okay as long as he didn't let it freak him out. Sometimes he felt watched, others he thought he heard whispered conversations, but mostly he felt like whatever ghost was in there was pretty rad and only really wanted company. That was cool with Frank, because he was sorta lonely too.
Frank had decided early on that being able to communicate with the spirits of the Way house would be a great idea. This thought had occurred to Frank one Friday night as he was camped out in the house like a hobo doing homework for school. He swore that he could hear someone say the answer to the question he had been doing for an hour "That's great, but I need working too ... Ugh now you won't fucking answer me? Maybe I need an EMF device and an audio recorder.... Holy shit... This question is hard" For months on end, Frank begged his mom for ghost hunting stuff for his birthday.
Soon, his birthday rolled around, bringing Halloween with it. His mom woke him up early on Saturday morning, much to Frank's annoyance. His annoyance disappeared however,as he tore open the present that had been pressed into his hands by his mom. He ripped the wrapping paper off the box to reveal a shiny new EMF detector and audio recorder"Holy mother of Frankenstein, this is amazing Mom, thanks!" He exclaimed happily.
"No problem Frankie, I hope you like it sweetie pie, it took a wile to get here" She smiled warmly at her still sleepy son "Anyway, seeing as it's Halloween, I thought Ray and you might want to go our to the Way house tonight and then you can try out your new cool ghostie things" Frank laughed, his mom didn't get the whole ghost thing, but to her if Frank was happy, so was she. The idea of taking Ray along wasn't too appealing to Frank. Sure, Ray was Frank's best friend but he was also the world's most jumpy fro wielding maniac and besides, this was Frank's thing, not Rays.
"I'll ask mom, but his parents are out of town and he has to stay in and give out candy" Frank said, lying through his teeth to his mom 'I'll be fine alone anyway, I've been in there millions of times, ain't nothing that can scare me in that place" Frank assured her, watching her face purse with worry.
"Okay, okay, I believe you. Why don't you invite him over tomorrow and play games and maybe watch a movie, hm?" She asked, Frank nodded eagerly, that was something that would definitely happen. So, Frank spent the entire day with his mom, watching stupid horror movies, the low budget kind that made them both giggle, and eating his mom's famous Vegetarian nachos. It was an all in all good birthday for Frank, considering his last had been spent watching a football match with his dad and pretending to like it.
Finally when darkness came, his mom wrapped him up warmly with scarves and a "You want to catch ghosts, not a chill" She walked him to the door where bowls of candy lay ready for trick or treaters who would soon visit. Frank hoisted his bag onto his shoulder. "Remember sweetie pie, be careful" his mom reminded him as she shooed him out the door. "Got it mom" He laughed, rolling his ever as he began the two minute treck up the hill to the Way house. __________________________
Frank's stomach was twisting and full of butterflies as he reached the Way house. He quickly made his way around the back of the house and pulled himself up and through the busted window that lead to the kitchen. He let out a squeak as his feet hit the stone floor in the kitchen kind of hard. He quickly straightened up and pulled his flashlight out. The lights in the house still worked, and whoever was the owner of the property was still paying for it. Frank made his way to the all with the switch, fumbling with it for a moment in the semi darkness. He finally flicked it and the lights flickered into being. Frank swore he heard an annoyed groan.
"Hi, it's me Frank, I hope it's Okay if I'm here, I just want to look around and talk" he announced to the house. No answer. He quickly went room to room switching on the lights, managing all the way to the 4th floor. Frank however didnt go in the attic. The one time he had, he found a few old paintings and nothing else, boring stuff.
He regrouped with himself in the kitchen, getting his EMF device and audio recorder into order. He walked from room to room, calling out...and nothing on the ground floor. He pulled himself up the staircase and within seconds it felt different, the atmosphere was electric. Slowly checked room to room looking for spikes on the emf reader. Then, he hit up the last bedroom.
"That's a fucking huge EMF spike" Frank mumbled, looking surprised as he stepped into the room "I'm gonna try and make contact" He told no one in particular. He moved to the middle of the room, setting his bag down. He tugged the zip open and shoved the EMF meter into it and took a deep breath as he straightened up.
"Hi, uh... Spirits, I'm Frank and I... uh.. want you to speak into this recorder if you're here" He stuttered nervously. He hit the play back a few seconds later.
"Hey Frank" Came a static filled voice from the recorder "I'm Gerard"
"HOLY SHIT"
