A Soul I Cannot Save...

Chapter-8

After Frank left, Gerard started to feel sicker. Frank's presence always improved his condition, and he'd been needing that extra help, lately. Gerard was beginning to have difficulty breathing. He didn't have any prior history of respiratory issues, so he was confused. He was sweating, which he didn't see possible, seeing as he actually felt extremely cold and he hadn't drank anything for a few days. Nothing satisfied his hunger or thirst. He didn't feel well enough to eat, anyway.

He unwrapped himself from the bedsheets and got up to got to the bathroom. He barely had the energy to get up. It took much longer than usual to walk down the hallway to the bathroom.
When Gerard arrived, clicked on the light, and stood in front of the sink, he looked at himself in the mirror. His eyes were sunken into their sockets, his normally round cheeks seemed hollow, and his lips were pale white, like the rest of his face, rather than their natural pinky shade. He jumped a little, the sullen, near-dead reflection that stared back at him was frightening. He knew he hadn't been feeling great lately, but how could a stomach virus make him look like something straight out of the crypt.

He tried not to panic but it was difficult when your physical appearance changed so negatively in such a short period of time. The last time he looked in the mirror couldn't have been for than 48 hours before, yet there it was, the fear-inducing reflection that stared back at him. The shock combined with his intense lethargy made in nearly impossible to retain consciousness. He quickly hobbled back to his room and shut the door so no one else had to to see him. His light was off, so that was probably why Frank couldn't see how horrific he looked.

Gerard had skipped a few meals in his time, but he never looked anything like this afterward.
His own creepy appearance aside, he missed Frank. Maybe Frank's presence was a factor in him not looking like that before, as well. He'd ask when he came home. He prayed, for the first time in a long time, that Frank was safe and that he would be home soon.
Gerard was eventually able to quiet his thoughts and get some rest. Frank was the last thought on his mind before he shut his eyes.
