"So you're participating in the faculty talent show?" Mikey asks, lounging on my overstuffed sofa with a can of grape soda in his hand. I find The Fellowship of the Ring's large ornate green extended edition case and hesitate before pulling out the disk, "Yeah, Faculty Follies....
Do you want to watch the movie or the appendices?"
"... Let's do both, I love Peter Jackson but let's go chronologically," he sets the can on the coffee table, "so what are you going to be doing?" He laughs to himself, "Speed paints? Those weird cartoony faces people draw at carnivals?
Oh! I've got it!" He snaps and points at me, "Pick up lines!" I laugh at this as I put in disk one, tossing him the remote as I go to change out of my work clothes. "Actually, none of the above," I tell him in a raised voice from my bedroom. I hear beeps from my microwave and the door opening as Mikey takes out the popcorn. "Then what?" I step out of my bedroom, buttoning the top button on my skeleton onesie and pull the hood up, "Well, actually..." I let my dog, Susan, in from outside, "I'm going to sing."
I look over and see Mikey smiling hugely as he pulls out another grape soda from the fridge, "Really...?" "Mmhm, I just... I think it's time for me to branch out... Try new things..." Mikey smiles at his shoes as we sit together on the couch, "My brother the introverted art teacher, ladies and gentlemen," we both laugh at that, "So what were you thinking?" He finishes.
"I've been thinking of maybe doing Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams or maybe the little thing I wrote after September, 11th...."
"Skylines and Turnstiles?"
"Skylines and Turnstiles."
He nods, "Both are good ideas... And I love both songs.."
Inod in agreement as I plop next to him and try to snuggle into his side (because fuck it, it's my pitty party).
"Hey!" He shoves me off, "Homo, get off me Gerard Gay!" I see a ghost of a smile on his face, so I know he's playing (Mikey would be the last person to discriminate against me, he was the first person I came out to, and he didn't care... It didn't change anything between us). I roll my eyes, "Come on b-....
....."
He smirks, "Go on, Make a pun with my name and bisexual that makes sense. "
I think for a bit and huff and I can practically hear his smirk deepening.
"Shut up," I tell him, nudging him with my shoulder.
He shrugs, "Eh, I will if I want. " I smile and press play,
And we both geek out a little.
And when it comes to Frodo getting up from under the tree and his close up, we both make small sighing sounds because those damn eyes.
"Hey, Frodo is my Hobbit, you already have your own," Mikey says.
"Hey!" I toss my hair, possibly being more sassy then intended, "One: you can't call dibs!
Two: why-
Wait, how do I already have my own?"
"Oh please, Frank," then he immediately winces and I feel my face fall...
I wish Frankie could be my Hobbit...

"Shit- Gee I'm so sorry, I don't know what I was thinking-"
I cut him off, "No, no
It's fine, Mikey..." I sigh and change the subject, "Speaking of, how are things?
I know the breakup with Alicia last month was hard on you but...." I trail off lamely.
"No, um I'm actually fine. I've... I've moved on..."
I wrap my arm around him and rub his shoulder. "Do you have anyone you're talking to or looking at?" I ask.
"Um, actually yeah."
This perks my curiosity.
"This girl in my grade... Kristin...."
I squeak, "My baby brother likes a girl!!!"
He rolls his eyes and we watch the movie for a while before he says, "Hey Gee?"
"Hmm?"
"You don't walk your lonely road alone."
