He's Not Dead, He Only Looks that Way.

“I miss her.”

When the group made their way through the front door inside the house, Patrick was waiting patiently for them. He saw multiple expressions, some were very easy to tell how they were feeling, but then others were hard to read. Gerard and Frank were smiling lightly, but there was a darker vibe escaping the two. The same was for Davy and Lindsey-and an unfamiliar face. Patrick was going to ask who this girl was, but Lindsey attacked him with a strong hug. Patrick could tell something was bothering everyone .. and noticed that Frey was nowhere to be seen.

Patrick frowned, "Where's Frey?"

A soft whimper escaped Lindsey's mouth. She held onto his hand, "She's dead."

Patrick wasn't close to Frey, but he enjoyed her company. Sure, sometimes she scared him with her random acts of craziness but he enjoyed how optimistic she was. He looked down to Lindsey who was crying against his chest before wrapping his arms around her, taking her in.

Gerard watched the two before whispering to Frank, "Davy and I are going to bury Frey's body. Keep everyone occupied."

Frank nodded, "Okay." Gerard smiled and kissed his lips before walking out the door. Davy followed close behind as Jenna watched him go. Jenna felt a little uncomfortable, not knowing anyone one around here. She stood there, watching Lindsey cry. Patrick leaned into Lindsey's ear, "Let's go to your room where you can rest." Lindsey nodded and allowed herself be led to the room by Patrick.

Frank stared down at the cane that previously belonged to Brendon. He couldn't believe he was holding the cane in his hands-the cane that killed Frey, the cane that made Brendon so powerful. Frank walked over to the couch and sat down. Jenna looked at him before following his movements. The two were quiet until Frank asked, "So you're the girl Davy won't shut up about?"

Jenna's cheeks burned, "Yeah, I guess so."

Frank smiled a bit, "I can see why. You're very beautiful."

Jenna blushed again, "Thank you." She looked down at the cane Frank held in his hands, "Don't let the power get to you." She added in, "You seem like a nice kid, I'd hate to see you die."

Frank forced a laugh, "Haha, yeah, right."

Outside, Frey’s body rested on higher ground as Davy dug a hole inside the earth’s soil, in preparation for putting in Frey’s body. He dug and dug in quiet as Gerard watched, already feeling drained by being used by Brendon. He was his old self again, the one Frank fell in love with. Though, he still can’t get rid of the images of what Brendon did while he was in control of his body. Brendon had deceived his friends, and that made Gerard angry.

Gerard kneeled down by Frey’s body and whispered, “I’m so sorry .. I wish I were stronger. He’ll pay for what he’s done. I’ll make sure of that.” He rested his hand on her cheek, cupping it, “Even in death, you are so beautiful.”

Davy did not a hear a word Gerard had said, but he saw his expression. It was very sad with a hint of anger. Davy set the shovel higher above ground, “Ready when you are.” He climbed out of the hole, standing on the other side of it.

Gerard nodded before picking up Frey’s body and slowly setting her body inside. He stared down inside, staring at her pale face. He could feel his body loosen, he was about to break into tears. He remembers everything about her. Her delusional mind, her carefree smile, and her mind that had deep perceptions.

((Flashback))
1994

Frey was hidden up in the tree, the tree that Gerard had told her that she could not climb. She stared out into the wasteland, admiring the view from where she was sitting. Gerard stared up at her, his hand on his hip and leaning against the side. He stared up at Frey who had the calmest smile. He did not know why she was always up in the tree, and he did not care. He just cared that she could fall at any given moment and hurt herself.

He called to her, “You’re a bad listener.”

Frey did not take her eyes off the wasteland, “I know. I like the view though.”

Gerard smiled softly, “Dear, it’s nothing but dirt.”

Fascinating, isn't it?” Frey leaned her head against the trunk of the tree, “Sometimes seeing nothing is better than seeing something.” She giggled as she looked down to Gerard, “Come up here.” She held out her hand to him.

Gerard should have taken her hand. He should have sat with her, seeing what she did. But he rolled his eyes, “No. That’s childish. Hurry up, kid. We have to eat soon and you can’t stay up there all day.” He turned his back to her, unaware she was sad. Frey watched him go before slumping against the tree, staring out into the wasteland once again. Her eyes watered, but she forced a smile, “He’ll come up here one day.”

((Present))

Gerard watched as Davy threw dirt on her dead body. He watched, feeling his legs weaken. He realized he has not cried for Frey yet. He wanted to but he had to be isolated. He mumbled, “I’ll be back.” He left Davy who watched him go before continuing burying Frey. Gerard left the side of the house to the back, where the tree was. He stared at it, thinking back to Frey. He can almost see her, holding her hand out to him. He smiled a bit before climbing the tree, reaching to the thick branch Frey would always sit on. He sat in the same spot, getting comfortable. His eyes scanned the area before staring out to the wasteland.

He saw the wind tossing around the dry dirt, the tumbleweeds running by. Gerard’s heart kicked before crying. He cried out, staring into the wasteland. He shouted, “It’s so beautiful.” He finally saw what Frey did. He saw nothing. He saw that while seeing everything, like pain and suffering, he finally saw nothing. That nothingness made him feel peaceful, at rest.

Gerard cried before jumping off the tree and landing on his feet. He ran over to the side of the house with images of Frey flashing into his mind. He pushed Davy aside who was finishing up the bury. Davy stumbled back as he blankly watched Gerard dig his hands into the dirt, tossing it to the side. Gerard cried out as he digging grew rapid, his speed increasing. He called for Frey before reaching her body. He grabbed her dead body and held it close, “I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry.

Davy pulled Gerard away, “Gerard, let her go.”

Gerard’s body was so weak that it was easy to pull him away from Frey. Gerard grasped onto Davy’s legs, “I should have been stronger and now we lost her forever .. because of me.”

Davy could feel his eyes water, “Gerard .. “ He bent down and pulled Gerard in, holding him. He muttered, “You couldn’t have done anything. I know Frey knew that.” He faced Gerard, “It’s not your fault.”

Gerard frowned, wiping his tears away, “I miss her.”

“We all do, Gee.” Davy pulled him in for another hug, “We all do.”
