Friends Aren't Easy To Make, But Lovers Are A Different Story

The Assignment

Gerard's POV

"Gerard Way...and Frank Iero." the drama teacher read off of his clipboard. What? I can't work with him! Frank Iero is the worst actor in drama!
"Excuse me, Mr. Quinn? There must be a mistake. There's no way I'm working with Frank. I'm the best actor in this class, and I'm not going to get an F because I got paired up with him!" I complained. I looked over at Frank. His face was bright red and he was studying his shoelaces, obviously embarrassed.
Mr. Quinn closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "Gerard, I don't have time for this. I know you're gifted in the arts, but that doesn't mean you can be rude. Everyone is going to be assigned a partner to create a short play to perform next Friday. Please just get to work."
I sighed and walked over to Frank. He was sitting on the stage, his legs dangling off the edge. His dark hair hung in his face and he was sitting kind of hunched over. I kind of felt bad. But not too bad.
"Are you just going to sit there or are you going to help me write this play?" I asked. Frank looked up and met my eyes. For a second I thought he was gonna bail on me. But then he gave me a shy smile in return and gestured for me to sit down beside him. He rolled up the sleeves of his hoodie, and then for the first time I realized he was pretty heavily tattooed. How he got so many tattoos as a high schooler, I'll never know.
"I was thinking we could do a science-fiction horror type of play, or maybe a psychological thriller? I have this cousin who is awesome at special effects makeup and she doesn't live too far away. You would make a great alien. Wait, no. You could be a werewolf! How much do you know about-"
"By the way everyone, your play has to be a romance!" called out Mr. Quinn from the other side of the auditorium. A romance? It's bad enough I have to write a play with this kid, but pretend to be in love with him? No thank you.
"Mr. Quinn, if you think I'm gonna perform a romance with this kid, you're fucking insane!" I yelled. Okay yes, I will admit I was acting like a little bitch, but seriously? What teacher does that?
"Gerard, I've had enough of your whining and rude remarks. If hear one more complaint about the project from you, you're getting a week's detention. "
I turned to face Frank. His face wasn't red with embarrassment anymore. It was red with anger. Cursing under his breath, he got up and left the auditorium, leaving me to deal with Mr. Quinn.
