Chasing Stars

I Would Never

Saturday came and went, I refused to leave my room to eat. In my frustration and solitude, I managed to find some of my paint that had come with me in the move. I could have sworn I threw it all away. Nonetheless, I began to paint on the only canvas I had, my wall. I spent most of the night doing just that.

It was Sunday afternoon when a knock came to my door. I looked around quickly, "One second," I said realizing that in my absent thinking, I had begun painting on my walls. I sliding my nightstand back in place and hid my paint under my bed. Another knock came to the door as I pulled my tank top off of me and through it across the room. "I said one second," I shouting pulling off my shorts and tossing them aside.

"Come on Rylynn let me come in," Gerard's voice rang out. I through on an oversized t shirt and opened the door.

"What I can't change now without it being an issue?" I asked.

"Well after the way you've been acting, I don't know," he said looking me up and down. "What's on your arm?" he said reaching out toward me.

"Nothing," I said loudly and pulled my arm behind me. I knew it was just paint but I didn't want him to know. He looking at me with concern.

"Do you wanna talk?" he asked. I shock my head looking toward the side. I had nothing to say and I wasn't going to apologize for what I said.

"What did you need?" I asked after a second of silence.

"I just wanted to invite you downstairs for a movie." I looked at him for a moment.

"No I'm fine, I'd rather stay in here and read. Besides I'm grounded." I went to shut the door but his hand came to the top stopping it.

"Come downstairs," he said softly with concern. I looked at him for a moment. I wasn't sure the look on his face, I hadn't seen it before.

"I don't want to," I muttered.

"Well I don't want you to stay locked up here for weeks. Since we've done that for months now, it's time we start doing what I want," he said in a voice I couldn't place the tone of. I sighed and looked at him.

"Why are you dong this?" I questioned letting go of the door.

"Because you're my daughter," he said in a matter of fact voice. I rolled my eyes.

"Fine whatever, can I at least change first?"

"I thought you just changed?"

"Yeah I did, I changed for sitting up here alone, not having a slumber party at 5 o'clock downstairs," I said in a rude voice.

"Fine," he said walking away and shut my door behind him. He was still waiting for me when I walked out of the room. I gave a half smile. He returned it and began to walk downstairs.

"I'll be right there, just have to use the bathroom first," I said to him and walked into the bathroom shutting the door before he could object. I quickly turned the faucet on and began to scrub off the paint. I exited the bathroom to find him at the top of the stairs still waiting for me.

"What where you hiding?" he asked crossing his arms. I looked at him surprised. How the hell did he know I was hiding something.

"No-nothing," I stuttered completely confused. Gerard sighed heavily. He pushed his hair back roughly.

"Give me your arm," he demanded. I looked at him in completely surprise. "Now!"

"It's not what you think," I said quickly and scared as I stepped forward and offered him my left arm. He quickly turned it over and then did the same to the other. He gave a sigh of relief and pulled me into a hug.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," he stated sounding like he was on the verge of tears. I hugged him back, realizing just how much I had scared him. Releasing me from his grasp, he kissed my forehead, taking a deep breathe and approached the stairs. I quickly grabbed his arm as he began to descend the stairs.

"I wouldn't. I would never do that, I promise. Gerard I would never do that to you," I said with urgency looking him in the eyes. I welcomed the isolation that surrounded me, I didn't want to run from it. As much as I might wish I was still with my mother still never made me want to kill myself. Gerard nodded in understanding and took another deep breath.

"Come on," he said gesturing me forward. When we arrived in the living-room, I sat down in the recliner as Gerard sat next to Bandit.

"Ready?" Lindsey asked us. We both wordlessly nodded and she hit play on the remote. The movie was animated, clearly picked out for Bandit. It was kinda funny. At the end of it Bandit stood up began to try to change to a new movie.

"Bee, let's wait until after dinner. Then you can watch another short one," Gerard said watching Bandit try to reach.

"No, I want to watch it now," Bandit wined.

"Yeah I don't think that's a good idea," Gerard said simply.

"Pizza?" Lindsey asked walking toward me.

"Sure," I answered "no pineapple?" I asked.

"Yeah that's fine," she answered putting a hand on my shoulder. "You really made him happy tonight. I just want you to know that," she said leaning in so only I could hear. I nodded in response not sure what to say.

"No," Bandit said stomping her foot as she continued to argue with Gerard.

"Do you want to go to bed now?" Gerard asked in a tone I knew all to well.

"But Daddy," Bandit wined again.

"No Bandit, you are not watching the video," he said simply.

"Good luck Bandit, I can't get him to listen either," I finally said to Bandit. Bandit sighed and walked over to me.

"Will you put the movie in?" she asked me in a sweet tone.

"Bandit Lee, stop it now," Gerard said standing up and walking out of the room. "And don't encourage her Rylynn."

"You heard the man, we aren't allowed to have any fun. Trust me, I know it suck," I said to Bandit as she sighed and walked to the kitchen.

"Want anything to drink?" Gerard shouted at me from the kitchen. I stood up and walked toward him.

"Water I guess," I said standing to him.

"Having fun?" he said rubbing my arm.

"If I say yes will you stop looking at me like I'm about to die?" I questioned in a sweet manner. I wasn't made of porcelain and I wish he understood that.

"Sorry," Gerard muttered and then walked towards the refrigerator.

"Okay pizza will be ready for pickup in about 20. They have a back up on delivery, would you mind taking Rylynn and picking it up?" Lindsey asked as I pulled a glass down.

"Why do I have to go with him?" I asked pouring my water.

"What can't stand me already?" Gerard asked with a smile. I rolled my eyes.

"Fine," I muttered, "Let me go through some jeans on."

When I returned back downstairs, Gerard was holding a sweatshirt for me.

"What's this for?" I asked examining it. It was one of mine. I must have left downstairs last week.

"It might rain," Gerard said grabbing his keys from the table. "We'll be right back," he shouted and we walked toward the door. Getting in the car, I noticed the dark gray clouds moving in. My heart began to beat a bit faster as I entered the car.

"How long does it take to get to the pizza place?" I asked buckling up and looking out the window.

"About 10 minutes," Gerard answered and started the car. "You okay?" he asked as I watched the sky carefully.

"Yeah, wanna talk about something?" I asked trying to keep my mind at bay.

"Umm sure, I ah guess, what do you want to talk about?" he said taken aback.

"How is Mikey?" I asked.

"He's good," Gerard said as he turned on the whippers. "I think Kristin and him are coming over tomorrow for dinner. Maybe we'll do sushi since you'll eat it," he said with a smile. The noise of the whippers were infiltrating my brain. I gave a forced half smile trying to keep control.

"Or we could do something else," I said with a shaky voice.

"Like what? Are you sure you're alright," Gerard asked removing a hand from the steering wheel and feeling my head.

"I'm fine," I said forcing the noise of the whippers to diminish. "So what else is new?"

"Not much, I think Frank and the kids are going to visit next month, it'll be nice for you to meet them."

"Why next month?" I asked as the noise hit me again.

"The band does a get to gather once a year around that time."

"Yeah, any chance of you getting back together?" I asked as we finally pulled into the pizza place.

"No, why are you a fan?" he asked putting the car in park and smiling at me.

"No," I said with a smile, "Derek is."

"Be right back," he said getting out and running through the rain. The minute the door shut, I released my hyperventilating breathe in an attempt to regain control. I removed my seatbelt and laid my head on my hands. I counted to ten and sat back up.
