Things Are Better If I Stay

When we arrived at the restaurant Frank and I acted less awkward. We asked each other what we were getting and we ended getting the same thing. Veggie burgers, the restaurant wasn't a five star restaurant but it was a good place to eat. I remember Mikey and I ate here.

"So, how's that iced tea?" Frank asked trying to spark up a conversation.

"Uh, sweet and delicious." I responded sipping my tea.

"That's good, my tea is the same accept better." He smiled.

"Why? Is it because yours is lemonade mixed?" Throwing a little attitude.

"No...maybe. Quit being rude Gerard." He stuck his tongue out.

"Very mature Frank, very mature." I respond to his actions emphasizing the 'very'.

"Thanks." He responds.

After about five minutes of teasing each other we were given our veggie burgers and side of fries.

"Thank you." We said in unison towards the waiter. He nodded and said you're welcome in return.

While eating I noticed that there was a stage in the back. I asked our waiter if they had open mic or any open gigs coming up soon. He said there's a few and maybe he can put in a good word for me. I haven't done a gig in like two weeks but tomorrow I'll be back on a stage. Maybe if I get to perform a gig I would be back on track.

"Yo Gee." I overheard Frank's voice interrupting my thoughts.

"Hmm?" I move my eyes to look over at him.

"I'm getting a little full." He rubbed his stomach.

"Okay and?" I said taking a bite of my burger determined to finish it.

"I'm also getting bored." He pouted.

I grinned and responded, "After I'm done we'll get a to go box and we'll leave okay, Frankie?" The nickname rolled off my tongue. He blushed a little and nodded.

I took a few more bites and I was finished, with the burger. We asked for a to go box and for the check. Before we leave the waiter told me that I could perform soon, he told me to come back later to find a good time to perform. I thanked him, then Frank and we left the restaurant.

"So, what are we gonna do now?" Frank asked as we walked back towards the coffee shop.

"Hmm," I thought about what I said we were gonna do, "Comic book store or this book store." I
stopped in the middle of our tracks and pointed at the book store.

"This book store." He pointed as if he were a toddler choosing which ice cream he wanted.

"Alrighty then," I held the door open for him, "Ladies first." I motioned my arm inside the book store.

"Shut up." He slapped the side of my arm and walked in. I giggle and walk in after him.

There were a lot of good books at the front and at the back there were some graphic novels sitting on a shelf. I ran towards the shelf and just looked for comics that I don't own. Unfortunately, the comic books on that shelf were books I already read. I look around to see where Frank was and he already had his head stuck in a book.

"Are you gonna buy it or?" I look down at him.

"I don't know. I'm having those moments where it so good that I want to read more but I know I would most likely never read it again." He explains.

"Buy it." I respond.

"Are you sure? Should I really?" He flips through the book.

"Yeah, I know this feeling and it usually means that it's a good book and whenever you feel bored or something just take out the book."

"Huh, never thought about it that way." He looked at me and back down to his book. He stood up from the bench and started to walk to the front where an old women stood.

"Did you find everything alright?" She asks while scanning the book.

"Yes ma'am I did." Frank replied.

"That's good." She smiled and handed him the book.

"Yep," He accepts the bag, "Have a nice day." He smiles.

"Thank you and you have nice day as well." She responds before we exit the store.

"Well that was pleasant." I commented.

"Yeah," Frank nodded, "Where to now? I got like three hours."

"Uhhh, well I'm feeling a bit tired."

"We can go to my place. It's not too far from here." He adds to my comment.

"Okay." I respond and we start walking down a block before crossing a street. I saw a small
apartment building that looked like the miniature version of the Friends apartment.
We walked into the building and headed up two flights of stairs before getting to the third and last floor.

"And this is where all the 'magic' happens." Frank comments as he unlocks the door.

"Uhh, sure Frank." I laugh as I enter the apartment and closing the door behind me. The apartment was empty, boxes were labeled and ready to go.

"Sorry for the boxes." He scratches the back of his.

"No it's fine. I sure do like boxes that say, books and shit." I smile as I read one of the boxes on a counter in the kitchen.

"I don't know what to label. Don't judge." He responds sounding very offended.

"Yeah, so what are we gonna do here for three hours?" I ask.

"How about some shitty horror movies?" He asks.

"Sure but where's the TV?" I asked, looking around his box apartment.

"My bedroom. I like to watch TV in bed."

"Okay then. To your room." I say sounding very commanding. Didn't mean to sound like that shit.

"Yes sir." Frank turns around leading me to his bedroom. Leaving the half kitchen, half living room to a hallway. There were two bedroom doors, passing one I see there are guitars and two amps set up. We take a turn to the other bedroom where Frank slept. It was kept nice and there was a normal bed with black sheets and a duffel bag with clothes coming out of it. I then see the TV in front of the bed.

"So, I know there's a shitty horror movie in here already and we're gonna watch it." He points at the DVD player and grabs a remote from his bed. I sit awkwardly on his bed and he jumps on the bed. He rolls over and lays on his stomach.

"Do you know what movie it is?"

"No, I rented it last night and I didn't see the title but it seemed decent and cheesy so I got it."
I made an 'o' shape with my mouth and nodded.

"You can lay down, I'm not gonna bite or anything." He says obviously looking at my awkward sitting position.

I took off my leather jacket and do the same thing Frank did, I rolled over on to my stomach and laid six inches away from his body. Frank was fiddling with the remote so that he could play the movie and it finally got there. He set down the remote and I rested my head on my arms and he did the same. The beginning credits started to appear on the screen and I could already tell it was cheesy.

"Oooo spooky." I say sarcastically.

"I know, that's what I said." Frank responded with the same sarcastic level as me.

Frank and I were thirty minutes into the movie and I was slowly falling asleep. My head kept falling and my eyes kept getting heavy as I blinked. Soon enough I was asleep and most likely closer to Frank.

I soon wake up to the end credits scrolling down the screen and my body underneath blankets.

"Frank?" I yell once I notice that he wasn't in the room.

"Yeah?' I hear him yelling from the other room, and hear foot steps coming close to the room.

"Just checking if you were still here." I lower my voice as I see his body enter the door frame.

"Okay, now that you're awake you want to head back home or do you want to see my gig?" He walks towards the bed as I'm still underneath the blanket.

"I would like to see your gig." I answer him.

"Alright cool." He gets up and I start squirming around but notice that my jeans were gone.

"Uhh Frank?" Right as he exits I see his head peer from the door frame.

"Yes?" He asks.

"Where are my pants?" I smile and I feel my face to heat up.

"Uhh, well you took them off in the middle of the movie and threw them at me and I folded them. Hmm, they're on top of that dresser right beside the bed." He points and I look behind me.

"Thanks Frankie." I smile and look at him and see his face turn to a pinkish color.

"No problem Gee." He giggles as he leaves the door and goes back to the other room.

I soon decide to get up from the comfortable spot and grab my jeans. I put one foot in and the other and trying to not loose my balance. I finally get my jeans on and look for my leather jacket. I notice that it was on the floor and pick it up and put it on. After I put on my clothes I go to where Frank was and stood.

"You ready?" He asks and I nod.

We walk out his door and he locks it with his keys, then we started to walk down the hallway and towards the stairs.

"So how was the movie?" I asked Frank.

"It was decent, just what I was expecting. How was your nap?" He looked at me.

"It was decent." I responded and smiled.

"Cool." We walked down one more flight of stairs and then we were out the door.

The bar where Frank and I were going to was just a few blocks away and should only take 10 to 15 minutes. While we were walking we talked about what songs Frank was going to play and he asked if I could sing a song. I agreed and decided to do an improvised song with him. After about 10 minutes we arrived at the bar.

Once we walked in there was already someone playing and they looked worn down. Frank and I walked towards backstage and the manager greeted us. I told Frank that I will be at the bar and I waved goodbye. Then I sat down and ordered a coke, then sat awkwardly.
