Unapologetic Apathy
Sam's Return/Vampire First Aid
"So, was it a success?" I asked Ray when he came home, finally. He had dropped Sam off at his house before he came back to the base, to pick up a few things, and then finally back to the house.
"Uh, well, everyone is safe, but we didn't get to kill her." Sams sister. "She was too fast. She didn't try and hurt us though."
"How Sam doing?" I asked him.
"He's okay physically, but he's still a bit sad at seeing his sister, you know? Like a monster. She didn't try and hurt anyone, though, that's off. He's convinced she's a good one, if there is such thing as a good vampire." Ray said in a quiet voice as he unpacked his bag. I scoffed. A good vampire? No. They were all killers on the inside. Even if they hadn't killed anyone before, they were bound to eventually. It was better to kill them before anything happens and stay safe.
"He can think that. She probably won't be in town for another year. He'll get over it," I murmured. Ray shrugged.
When Sam saw us the next morning at the base, he looked like normal, except sad. The whites of his eyes were bloodshot, and his blonde fluffy hair was uncombed. He was unhurt, though, and that was good. When Kelsie said they had been hunting, I had been very worried and concerned for his safety. He was only 15, damnit! He could have gotten killed.
"Nice hunting last night, I heard you were very close this time." He nodded when I said this.
"Yeah I was pretty close. Closer than last time. But she got away before I could stake her," he sighed. He had been working with us for 2 years now, ever since his sister was turned. His parents didn't know: they thought he was at an art club. I felt bad knowing he might be hurt on our watch.
"Be careful, kid," I muttered and fluffed his hair. He smiled and sat down at the desk. after a while, he started talking to me agai.
"You're going back to the manor tonight?" He wondered.
"Yeah. The leech needs his food." I patted the bag beside me containing one medical bag. It made me nauseous, honestly, but it was better than him killing everyone I knew. I didn't know how he could track is down, but I dint underestimate him.
"how are you getting out of this deal?" He questioned. I shrugged and didnt say anything.
the routine at the base was pretty simple: I get there the earliest, and then Kelsie, and then Ray and Sam because they carpool. Kelsie makes some cookies or brownies and we eat them as we work. Our work consists of emailing groups from other cities and tracking vampire activity and looking for vampire-like crimes in our area. It was pretty slow today, but Ray put eerythin down in his little log book.
We would have all left and went out deprecate ways at 8:00, but recently the team has been staying later because of me. I go to the manor at 9:00 every other night, and they have to monitor my earpiece and body camera.
I hid my earpiece in a pocket, because the vampire already suspected it, and I wore my camera in the same place. Way didnt see that yet, and I would doubt he knew what it was. He was old and never left the manor.
I left the the base and walked the few blocks to the manor. Then I pried open the gate and walks for ten minutes to his estate door. It was a lengthy walk, but only Ray had a car and we didn't want the vampire to know about it. He might use that to track us down. I opened the door, and like usual, it opened.
I had had my flashlight and shine it around, quickly finding Gerard lounging on the sofa, reading a book, and fully aware I was in his house. I frowned at him, because he was arrogantly holding up a finger to tell me to wait. What a cocky bastard. When he was done the page, he set it down and marks his page. I saw a glimpse of the cover: what looked like a cultic symbol and some letters in another language I didn't recognize.
"Hello, Thankyou." He took the bag from me and reached in. He held on to the bag for a few moments, examining it, an hen turned back to me. "You know I wouldn't hurt your team, not unless you broke the promise. But I need to know that they understand the circumstances of our arrangement." He said in a humming voice.
"They do. We are very careful."
He went on. "Because I can and will track you down and drink all of you dry if I must. I don't care if you are hunters." He seemed pretty nonchalant, dispite threatening or lives. I widened my eyes and swallowed nervously. How could he be so uncaring? It was unnerving how he could talk about such manners so lightly. Maybe once you've murderred as many people as him, it becomes easier to talk about it.
"I won't let you."
"You won't have to if you follow the rules. All of you. Because I will find out if you do," he said as he turned the bag over in his hands.
"I'm going to leave now."
"Wait," he called when I turned to leave. He licked his lips and stared at my neck. Shit. Not again. "Come here."
"No," I said. He shook his head and smiled at me, exposing razor sharp canines. I turned to leave again, but suddenly he caught hold of my wrist.
"Let's think of this as another part of the deal. Because I let your hunter friends know, you can supply me with a little more...." He trailed off as he leaned in closer to me. His head was hovering over the crook of my neck. I stiffened. I could feel his cold breath on my skin.
He he took a deep, sudden breath in, and then I felt a sharp pain. The fucker bit me! I knew e would, because he was such an asshole, but he didn't even give me time to bargain with him! His hands drifted up to the other side of my head. Keeping me in place. I waited patiently for him to stop, but it felt like he was taking forever. I started to get dizzy, ten all of a sudden he broke away.
He he was covered in red and smiling that creepy smile of his, like he just ate some good chocolate Or found 20 dollars in his pocket. I put a hand to my neck and it came away red and sticky.
He led me, dazed and confused, into a room down the pitch black hallway. He sat me down in a chair and pulled out a box. Inside was bandages and vials of old fashioned antisletic medicines. He sprinkled some stinging alcohol on the bite, and I winced, but soon it turned warm and soothing. He wrapped a bandage around my neck snugly, but enough that I could still breathe. I winced. He secured it there.
"Good. You can leave if you want to, now. I'll be going to my study. Good day," he muttered and left. I saw myself out.
I left and and went back to the bade, where Kelsie cleaned me up the rest f the way, washing my blood stained shirt and disinfecting the wound the rest of the way. She made sure I drank a lot of juice and ate some cookies. Sam looked at me weirdly the rest of the night, a guilty-making state laced with worry. Ray sighed and continued with his work, but I could tell he was concerned.
I jst thought about one thing an one thing only: maybe he wasn't as bad as he made himself out to be.
And maybe I did have a little crush on him.
Notes
So, the chapter that's nkt loadjng basically just said Ray took Sam on a hunting trip to try and kill his vampire sister, who in town. Kelsie was amused at Frank's concern. She said he was the parental figure the kid needed j his life. That made Frank blush a bit, but be woried the rest of the night for his safety.
Well, he's safe, and Frank is basically Sams cool badass vampire hunting uncle
